Nokia Expert, 09 May 2011@ Ray Than answer this: How come the users of Galaxy ... moreYou risk burn-in of static images on your AMOLED screen if you go on high brightness for extended periods of time.

You want something like this on your AMOLED screen just to hide the purple defect?
                      http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1211/4731866441_f37348315f_b.jpg

Nokia should provide its NCCs with the properly calibrated replacement screens instead of risking your screen to even more trouble by throttling your brightness to high levels just to hide the defect.

As Ray said, installing third party apps that controls the brightness and used for the purpose of hiding the defect isn't an ideal solution. It won't fix the problem as it will only hide it and you're also opening yourself up to getting a burn-in problem.

                        Than answer this:

How come the users of Galaxy s, iPhone 4, C6-01, E7, Xperia X10 and many other phones have their screen brightness at maximum?

Because it looks better!Brighter screen always screams quality. Even if N8 didn't have any display issue I still would recomend to increase brightness, because N8 looks the worst in darkness compared to other phones... And you don't even need 100%... 90% brightness is perfectly enough to clear out the most of the purple tint...
It is Amoled for sake! and Amoled is known for its brightness and high contrasts. and you not gonna get high contrast when you screen brightness is at 50-60 %.

Fix Purple Tint, 09 May 2011Download the "Brightness Control" by Laternsoft... moreInstalling a third party app to disable the light sensor isn't an ideal solution. Having the screen service to full brightness all the time can significantly reduce the life span of the display.
                            Use the app with caution.
                            All the best.

Download the "Brightness Control" by Laternsoft from Ovi store.
It disables the built in light sensor and lets you adjust brightness the way you like.
The purple tint disappears by 90% and it is not even seen on the clock too.
Battery life stays the same too....
Trust me people the phone will look like it never had any purple tint...

Also, how do you explain the other issue of poor colour gradients that people also suffer with when the screen is affected by the purple tint?

One more thing about the N8's purple tint, when you press the menu button to unlock the screen from analogue clock screensaver mode, notice the circular border line of the clock, it has white color in the upper portion and purple color at the lower portion which makes no sense if it's a screen deffect because the inside upper portion of the clock is colored purple.
If that purple tint of your N8 matches with what i'm talking here and with my previous post, then that purple thing is not a deffect.

I don't think the purple tint of N8 is to be worried about because it only appears just for 1 second when you press the menu button to unlock the screen from analogue clock screensaver mode, and after that it's gone. It does'nt affect the phone's operation and most specially it doesn't affect your viewing of the screen because it's not there anymore after unlocking the screen.
Besides, in my observation, i firmly believe that the purple tint is not a deffect! It's a shadow-design of the analogue clock. In standby mode, press the clock or go to applications then clock and carefully observe the clock, there's that purple color again in lower portion clearly seen as a shadow-design of the analogue clock just like the small clock icon rectangular box found above it. And here's another thing, if that purple color is a screen deffect, then why is it that the short and long arm of the clock and the bars that represent the numbers of the clock were not affected by the purple color since they are all under the same screen? My friends, that purple tint or color in your N8 is not a deffect. Put your heart and mind at rest now and enjoy your device.

N8 is a gr8 phone at an amazing price, but it is hard to choose between e7 and n8. Aftr all n8 is 12mp,but the physical qwerty keypad in x7 cannot be left, whereas no support for sd card in x7.
