i find it better than N78 in terms of design ,and N82.

but except OLED,USB charging i find nothing good inside nothing new except feature pack2 symbian 9.2 OS.

i am happy with my N82 especially since i was really sick and tired of my n95 and n958gb being a power user both of them eventually got wobbly sliders. And it used to really turn me off so i compromised and sold my n958gb and bought n82

    couldnt have been much happier
an ideal phone will be A Nseries 8MP touch symbian 9.4 OS phone with eseries type metal finishing

not like the 5800 express music

                    build:
small in size but the weight just right to give a solid feeling when you handle it. slide is precise. the top one is hard though. you will get used to it after a few sessions. the design is good. it's sleek, some might call it "girly" but it is fashionable. the keys are well spaced but a bit tough. I would agree that it does make a noise when you press it(single piece of plastic for the whole panel of keys being the reason). the side key placement is perfect(especially the lock/unlock sliding key). features are good. nothing we haven't seen in n78 albeit the 5mp camera. for people who wanted to know about gaming I am sorry to say I am not a gaming freak. so haven't tried that as yet. you better find out yourself, I have little knowledge in that area.
the camera image is crisp and the camera take 7 sec to start once you open the lens cover. but it cannot beat a good digicam.
OS is good. all the transitions are smooth. it doesn't hang if you have not installed any rubbish(i faced the problem and now its gone after I removed it, phew!!!). usb charging is good but it does not juice up the battery fully. the wall socket charging can add more mAh(btw they use the same port, 1 less hole for dust to gather, hurray!!) battery is ok as promised;). the screen needs a special mention.

                    its a......

                    wait for it

                    wesome

                    he he

truly its perfection personified. the contrast ratio is sun/black hole. the colour gamut is = the rainbow. and as promised the display quality doesn't change with viewing angle right up to the point at which the screen is hidden. the screen is the winner......

and for Rs 24k (380 eur) i got it for a bargain....

                        PERFORMANCE 9

Xenon flash would have benn a plus. Nice but Girly design. SD compatible up to 16 GB. FM transmitter is music transmitting compatibility only. Does charges through USB. N85 is basically just an improved version of N95. Nokia design team is the worst design team I've seen. Improvement is that the dual slide multimedia key is multifunctional for gaming, music, videos and camera.

This is a nice phone but all those who lives in US do not purchase this phone because samsung USA doesn't cover the 1 year Warranty on non us models.
8mp camera in not that impressive comparing to Nokia N series. It's almost the same. But if you know how to use camera and change settings in different situations innov8 is a great 8mp phone. No FM transmitter. No DVB-H and who needs it in USA. Symbian OS is a plus in this handset the design is Good, it would have been great if the volume rocker was on the other side where camera switch was located. Volume rocker acts as a zoom in and out. This is a latest handset and its not us compatible available in Europe and Asia only so if your buying the phone be careful the warranty is not going to cover it. Its a little expensive handset and if anything happens to it you're on your own buddy. For people in UK you can get it in a contract of 35 to 45 Pounds and comes with service provider warranty and samsung 1 year warranty.

Ugly looking phone with a 16 GB memory and SD card slot. Worst cell phone design i have ever seen. duel slider is good but why they also have music keys at front navigation key pad. Plastic toy phone body and Cheap looking keypad. No camera lens protection and No DVB-H support for US so no no.

Nokia marketing is clever, making people pay more for a lower spec phone like N85. N85 is based upon mid range phone N78,when N82 is base upon hig range N95 8gb. So how can you pay more for a N85 than a N82 ? Remember than N85 (or N79, they are the same)is successor of N78, when Nokia makes you think it is the successor of N95.

iolo003, 25 Oct 2008i love this phone oled - never use ds feature before ... moreThe upper slide of N85 (the one that reveals the media keys) is multipurpose. It serves as controls for music playback (skip,rewind,play/pause,stop), slideshow control for image viewing (zoom in/zoom out,play/pause,stop), zooming in/out of web pages in web browser, gaming buttons (a & b).
OLED is nice. The annoying thing is that the screen is always lit up even in power saver mode.
Important thing to note is that N85 is basically just an improved version of N95. There is nothing new with this phone except those minor details only. And this phone does not specialize on anything: inferior camera compared to N95/N82, inferior soumd quality (headphone/speakers) compared to N81, and no 3D graphics chip unlike N95/N82.
I would've forgiven its under par camera performance but not its only average audio quality. MP3's with higher bitrates should be loaded on it inorder to achieve good sonic experience because those with lower bitrates are no longer passable to an audiophile like me. Thinking twice of getting this phone. I think I should get the N96 instead when the price drops to P20,000-P24,000 next year.

N96 and N85 are patterned after N81 because its a common design language to distinguish it as NOKIA, just like how iPod Shuffle, Nano, Mini, Classic and Video look so similar with each other.

                                  Hi All

                                  About OLED Display

                                  Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED)
An Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED), also Light Emitting Polymer (LEP) and Organic Electro Luminescence (OEL), is any Light Emitting Diode (LED) whose emissive electroluminescent layer is composed of a film of organic compounds. The layer usually contains a polymer substance that allows suitable organic compounds to be deposited. They are deposited in rows and columns onto a flat carrier by a simple "printing" process. The resulting matrix of pixels can emit light of different colors.

Such systems can be used in television screens, computer displays, small, portable system screens such as cell phones and PDAs, advertising, information and indication. OLEDs can also be used in light sources for general space illumination, and large-area light-emitting elements. OLEDs typically emit less light per area than inorganic solid-state based LEDs which are usually designed for use as point-light sources.

A significant benefit of OLED displays over traditional liquid crystal displays (LCDs) is that OLEDs do not require a backlight to function. Thus they draw far less power and, when powered from a battery, can operate longer on the same charge. Because there is no need for a backlight, an OLED display can be much thinner than an LCD panel. OLED-based display devices also can be more effectively manufactured than LCDs and plasma displays. However, degradation of OLED materials has limited their use.

                                    N85 owners:
Many people are complaining about wobbly slider, especially when using the keys under the screen : the top half hit the bottom one making noise. Is it the same for you ?

This one's too expensive. What's new here is the OLED display. The rest, uhm, not very surprising anymore. We need something new, especially the design. NSeries' design are going the wrong way lately. Hope Nokia puts a stop on this. N81's design was not good, though it is a good gaming and music phone. Why does Nokia keep on reproducing N81's design? Look, N95's design is great, but look at what Nokia has done with N96 and N85? Nokia's headed the wrong way. Stop the bleeding before it's too late. Don't be too complacent. Consumers deserve quality products with design, features, and other aspects thoroughly studied before arriving at the finished product. N96 and N85 have not been thoroughly polished. It's unfair for consumers. Nokia is a big brand, but development should not stop because of reliance with the big name. Back to the lab. This N85 and N96 experiment creates a monster within.
