[deleted post]i, for myself, i wouldn't choose any apple phone over the N900.
there's a lot of work with the N900 and requires a lot of patience to make it work the way u want, but it's worth it.

    Will N900?, 17 May 2010It is worth to buy N900 against N8 or wait till the N8 lau... moreu can't compare the two models...
    but since u don't know much about this phone, i'd suggest that u wait for the N8, cause u'll just end up being one of the N900 users that are not satisfied with it. i am satisfied with mine.
    before deciding if u want to buy this phone, read as much reviews as possible.

            I sold my n900 and bought a htc hero g2 and have now installed an android 2.1 custom rom on it and i now have everything i need and more.
            I have flash support, java, loads of apps ones that work unlike n900 and free ones, good touch screen, no keyboard but i have the speech to text installed so i just press a button say what i want and the phone converts it into text dont need a keyboard, two day battery life instead of one on the n900, both full and mobile internet sites if the signal is not so good i can use mobile sites instead of no site at all on the nokia. free google navigation with my celebrity tomtom voices installed, google earth, maps, street view, voice search and navigation installed.
            Too much stuff to mention why oh why did i but the n900 which still hasnt been updated yet "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ" boring i will enjoy my full colour working world cup app in a few weeks thanks android and htc and to the providers of the custom rom villain 5.5.0.

                I just need to assign a ringtone to a specific number. Is this possible with the n-900?

                I need also to know from the screen, that i have a missed call or a message, is this possible ?

For me N97 is "just another symbian smartphone", while N900 have a real computer operating system and can run stuff that no other phone can. And render webpages same as on a PC, full flash support, and through Easy Debian also full java support for the web (Iceweasel).

                    Still didnt even mention the hardware, cant be compared. You need to look under the hood, dont judge the dog by its hairs, N97 and N900 are not even relatives, they just happen to have a somewhat similar design.

                      i think n97 is still d best?n900 has 65k colors unlike n97 w/ 16m colors..and this is very xpensive..

                        I have downloaded Conky as you mentioned.

                        Here are my readings

                        Ram usage is 59% and swap usage is 4% with nothing loaded ei Internet or apps running.

                        When I open up one internet page my CPU is staying constantly jumping from 10% up 40%

                        I have tried opening 5 web pages and now CPU usage is constantly showing 60% and above and ram usage now at 175 out 239

                        Does this all sound normal?

                        Rootfs is 67mib out of 227 mib

                          Thanks very much for your information, I will try what you mentioned.

                          The reason I asked is because my N900 seems much slower to perform verious tasks and internet very slow also and just trying to narrow down the problem.

                          Every so often I keep getting error message when trying to connect to Vodafone contract wap-( internet connection failed and it will not find it sometimes for couple of hours)
                          I know this is not something you will know how to fix but very annoying.


                          apart from these issues its without a doubt the best phone I have ever owned.

                          I bought the HTC desire last week and its also amazing but just something about the N900 made me want to stick with it and having the keyboard makes a difference.

I have this phone and not major clue... moreits ok if you do not know linux os. n900 has 256 mb of mobile ddr ram and 768 mb virtual ram(swap ram).there is a 2 gb ext3(linux file extension) which will save all apps and games installed on this phone. that drive you cant see from windows, only you can check with linux os. download conky, you will understand everything. thanks.

                                CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

                                I have this phone and not major clued up, I need to know how to check whats eating away at the phones ram and how I delete things.


                                I go into settings-memory and shows 26.58gb still available but I dont have anything that I know about saved the phone.


                                Its states I have 27meg on web pages, 60.2 mb on videos clips and other stuff also.


                                how do I delete these things that must be storing on some kind of system Cache or similar.
