h@, 30 Mar 2010Can you set individual ring tones for contacts? No, u can not add any ringtone to phone contact, where under edit u can only add fields for email address, call via SIP etc. One would expect this to be available, as in other cheaper phones, but sadly ignored. In fact many of the basic and yet common phone features available in cheaper phones are not available in N900, not at this time. It just sitting stupid there looking n waiting for the next firmware. What a waste.

Incidentally, the fully-charged battery lasted less than few hours yesterday despite of redundancy. Remove the battery n recharge it after 10 minutes seems to do the trick so far, hopefully. Otherwise, no SIM card detected. Well I use Skype most of the time, N900 could Wi-Fi Skype without it, so I throw away the pre-paid SIM today. Problem solved, out of frustration of course! Seems like I m being enslaved by N900 eh!

I had an unlocked N900 two weeks ago. Compared with my 4 weeks old Iphone 3GS 32Gb, the Nokia N900 is just simply sucks. There is very little in it that really worth spending my time on, even after upgrading to the latest firmware. There is no 3G, front camera not supported at this time, very few apps that you can use for productivity, even the few built-in games are primitive and lousy, screen movement is pathetic (more likely to open the not needed app than scrolling through), apps really not opening swiftly as expected, quality and volume of media below par (no EQ either), 4 screens allow compared to 11 in iphone n they do not scroll swiftly either, etc etc.

The only thing N900 can do good for me with this firmware moment is the built-in Skype vis Wi-Fi. But this can be done in Iphone too! In all, I would rate it a poor investment from my part and worse, to be insulted with poor quality games and very little built-in apps. Ovi shop may shows free apps fro N900 but u will only find out many of these are trial versions. I have had hard time to get rid of it. Last but not least, the alarm I have set did go off but not heard. Instead the Iphone did, on the same time!! I'm looking for a trade-in soon. ByeBye now, Nokia. You can not simply get away with an expensive phone with so little or no useful or decent apps to support it. Even the limited Iphone apps coming with it works better and more useful. Eweeee!!!!

Any news on the FM radio app? Or updates for it? Is there already an FM radio recorder which converts files to Mp3's automatically? It would so awesome if the n9 had one...

smith usa, 29 Mar 2010no barcode...the root memory is 256MB...n tht wat am talkin... morenot all applications are stored and installed in the 1.6GB of app memory. Apps that are not yet approved or optimized are installed partially or as a whole on the rootfs which is the thing that gets full and out of space.

optimized apps are installed in the 1.5GB app memory and is system linked to rootFs (if an app is 2mb, then it will consume 2kb of rootfs for example).

application catalogs consumes rootfs space. if you have used 150mb of rootfs, about 20 -30mb of those are not apps, but cache files which is your application catalogs.

temporarily, you can free up rootfs space by disabling app catalogs.
