I think its a manufacture's strategy 2 kee p ppl buyin 1 after d next.

            vinny, 03 Dec 2009I understand your point here ;) but I think like OvO: noki... moreWell vinny, it _is_ silly for Nokia to invest all this money and time on N900 only to be thrown to the back in less than one year and have the platform totally updated before milking all money possible. It does not make any business sense. But I am sure Nokia has business strategies that are not out in the open in order to make profit and be ahead of the competition.
            In terms of updates, I wish they would just say that maemo 6 is also planned for the N900 (officially), even tho 0v0's reasoning is very valid and it will take 11+ months to actually arrive with the Maemo 6 handset. But, compare this to apple's iphone, although I hate the business model and strategies of apple to the core, but even the first iphone can be upgraded to OS 3.x (for money, yeah, milk more money apple, will you) but the fact is it's still relevant, you find applications for it, it's supported and will be for a long while.
            I want the N900 to be a huge success but you can't say it is before it's out yet ;) I hope Nokia makes many competitions for Maemo developers like google and apple does, this brings more people to develop applications for it. Also I hope Nokia makes the OVI store as successful and useful as app store because that makes more people interested in the platform, which from my point of view is far superior to apple's closed platform or android's chaotic (in terms of backward compatibility) platform.

              i have my n900 now and i am blown away by it. i'm still customising it now, nearly a week later, much like you do when you get a new PC. i'm getting the SDK to port a few important apps (admittedly command line) to it.

              with regard to the speed of it; anybody claiming that 600Mhz is slow clearly has very little idea of the capabilities of it are. this isn't just a 600Mhz ARM chip, it's an OMAP3430. if you don't understand how powerful it is after looking at the specs on Texas Instruments' website, then there's no point arguing about clock speed. in that case, my advice is to find one (if you can) and have a play with it. i have never seen a web browser like this on a phone before; it's essentially like having firefox (yeah, i know; it isn't *quite* firefox). there's the odd 'dead tap' on the interface but the screen is sensitive enough and i can't decide whether or not the interface has been softened a bit to avoid being 'too sensitive', if this makes sense.. more importantly, the screen is incredibly accurate and registers tiny clicks on links in web pages that you just can't get on a capacitative.

              battery life is very variable, depending on what you're doing and how you're connecting.

              as said in a review on this site already, this is most definitely not a phone for everyone. one thing this it is, though; it's the phone i've been looking for for the last 12 months.

                well, i am 100% sure, by this month the N900 will be officially in retailers shop,,

                i waited almost 3 months, waiting for more 1 month will be fine...heheheheh

                  Nokia planed about the N900(Maemo 5) since January 2009,,and till now we still didn't get the N900, it going to be available in retailer shops by this month or next month ( don't know about other countries.)

                  So, if there is a plan for Maemo6, so just calculate as following:

                  -planning period=3 months
                  -pre-release period=3 months
                  -pre-order= 2 months
                  -finally, officially in retailer shops= 3 months

                  Approx. 11 months, it will follow the same sequence as N900.

                      So if you think the N900 is slow you're probaby gonna find those phones slow as well.

                          I really don't see it being up in mid 2010.
                          No way.
                          They're gonna be way to busy dealing with maemo 5 and starting to get apps for it.
                          I might be wrong, but I don't imagine any device runing maemo 6 before end of 2010.
                          Plus it would be silly for nokia to outdate a phone like the N900 that quickly.
                          They need to squeeze as much money as they can out of it.
                          You might think: "then why did they release the N900 right after the N97 then"???

                          Well, I think Nokia itself didn't expect the N900 to be such a hit. Their idea was probably just to mix an internet tablet and a phone together and see what would happen.

                          I'm glad they did. maemo OS put into cell phones looks great!

                          PS: and yes, the app for the radio receiver was already out even before GSMarena's review on the N900.
                          But they don't even talk about the game "Bounce Evolution" in the review. So...

                                Vinney, thanks for your comment. I understand what you are saying, but I don't _always_ hold out on buying just because another better thing is coming out. As you said there is always something better coming out around the corner. But I am comparing maemo 5 to windows vista in that, almost every person who read about it decided he should not upgrade to it because windows 7 is coming around the corner. I am sure maemo 5 will not have the horrible experience that vista had, but if you want your PC to be relevant for a couple of years, you get windows 7. The same thing is with Symbian 9. I have a 3 year old E61i and I love it. Symbian 9 has been a great platform for what I need all this time and the evidence is that it has been around for a long time. Now if Nokia says that Maemo 5 is just positioned to get N900 out, and like a closing gap device to make way for a great device that comes out in another year's time, well, I think personally I'll keep the E61i for one more year, and get the platform that has a longer projected lifespan.
                                As for radio, I do not know if they released an application for receiver since GSMArena's review. I hope they did.

In the same way it's always wise to wait for the next top end computer (or graphics card) till next year that you will be able to get in the same price as current top-end one. :-)
                                    It's technology man! There is always better, faster, cheaper (ignoring the inflation) in future. Just enjoy what's there now and get to the next one when you can.
