To back up my previos statement:
When N900 was announced, Nokia officially showed how to gain root access - something neither Microsoft, Apple nor Google would ever do.

If you don't know which phone to buy, then better buy an Iphone or something else that's easy to learn, since you won't understand the benefits of the N900 anyway.
However, if you konw which phone to buy, then it's unnecessary to recommend anything else, since you already know which phone to buy.
So why are people recommending this phone for complete n00bs? Those, who don't ask which phone to get, they will most likely get the N900 anyway, and those, who are confused and don't know which phone is the best, they won't most likely understand the difference between Maemo and Android, so they can get the cheaper but inferior Android OS anyway.
Remember, not everyone needs what Maemo has to offer, for some people that only want to call, text and do other basic tasks will most likely prefer Androids simplicity, rather than the complex Maemo OS.

specifications, 05 Oct 2009read the specifications again dude ,,, it do have a digital... moreOn such a powerful cpu the compass is really pointless. The high processing power more than tripples telemetry data processing so even if you disable it you'll barely feel the difference.

its not stylish its freakishly heavy its bulky - so is a truck vs a car and both have their own purpuose
it has a weak camera - megapixes isn't all and the camera is one of the best out there considering the device type
it has a very weak battery - it has a very strong battery since voltage and mAh aren't the only ways a battery's performance is measured, but your not an engineer are you? I mean you don't even have 8th grade physics knowledge if you say something like that.
its keyboard is tiny and stupidly arranged - get a bluetooth keyboard, ignore it or wait like me for a keyboard-less version; the keys are actually convex so it's pretty much the best keyboard out there and also shift-like keys lock on double tap so the layout is excusable.
it has no freakn mms which is really really basic - why pay for mms when you got email, facebook and every imaginable way of sending photos WITHOUT altering quality. Most of the plans come with lots of mb, I got 400 and when I'm on a trip I take my laptop and browse just like home via the mobile. Either way mms is currently in development, check the forums.
its design makes it look cheap and looks like a budget qwerty phone - so do you buy phones to boast? that's pathetic... really why would I care to peek on somebody's mobile? you sure sound like a freak. Either way the metal rim with the nokia logo gives a distinctive touch.
its most of the time only in landscape - it's an internet tablet but you're not to blame for never hearing of them. Either way this is also beeing worked on and judging a phone by watching a video of somone else holding it is like me adressing insults to you (that aren't based on pointless comments)
the resistive touch is a joke - the capacitative screen has high power requirement and it's so unprecise that selecting text with the tip of your finger on such a high screen resolution would be a nightmare. Capacitative is mostly used in industry and city info pannels that are big enough to be used with a thumb.
Resistive is the right choice for an internet tablet because it offers precision, feedback and it simply doesn't react annoyingly whrn you simply pass your finger above it.
It's really fun to see how somone can write so much b//// that isn't really fonded on anything; you should be a pollitician.
And get this, it ain't about the brand! It's about the more advanced gadget and n900 simply provides that by having a combination of almost the largest resolution in it's class, a very powerful hardware that records video above D1 at excellent quality and the most mature OS out there.

hey.. this phone had everything what i want it! should be my phone after this.it doesn't matter it does not thin as other touchscreen phone, but hopely have a good speaker... not had any reviewing video this phone test it... how with you all? anybody know it? p/s:sorry for bad english

I can only laugh at the Iphone vs nokia lovers battle going on here... I simply want the best phone overall don't care about the brand .... IMO this is it, nothing personal on iphones... but I think they are just eye candy but not that functional
before anyone starts arguing with captive and the OS nonsense (iphone) ... let me say that u are right in that it's awesome how it looks... but as I said... I want functional, not eye candy
overall, is there another phone better than this? eg: omniapro, hero??
