    I think n97 with omap3 and 256 ram and capacitive screen will beat n900 in sales

      N97 and N900 are almost the same! Nokia should have introduced something more with N900 (like xenon flash, and better camera) Maemo 5 is too new and it will be difficult to persuade people to buy this phone when there is N97 with many programs supporting it.

          relative comparison between my well loved iphone vs N900

          1st Round: Processor
          The first round is very competitive, as both terminals mount a 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8
          Partial score: N900 1 x 1 iPhone

          Round 2: Memory
          A difficult round as both equipped with 256MB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, but the N900 has the opportunity to expand the memory via micro SD cards for over 16GB and this allows him to win the round.
          Partial Score: N900 2 x 1 iPhone

          Round 3: Dimensions and Weights
          Early stages of the comparison, and here iphone won easily for its lightness and also for its small size compared to the opponent.
          iPhone: 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm, 88.2 cc, 135g
          N900: 110.9 x 59.8 x 18 mm, 119.3 cc, 181g
          Partial Score: N900 2 x 2 iPhone

          Round 4: Connectivity
          Another round of very hard, the iPhone is a 3G tri-band (850/1900/2100) as the N900 (900/1900/2100) and both possess the Wi-Fi.
          The N900 but wins thanks to Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP connectivity while the iPhone has this technology only to headphones.
          Partial score: N900 3 x 2 iPhone

          Round 5: Display
          The challenge continues, this time moves on display from both sides. the iPhone has a capacitive touchscreen display from 3.5inches at a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels.
          The N900 should leave defeated by a resistive 3.5-inch display but at a much higher resolution: 800 x 480 pixels. But this is a draw.. iphone being multi-touch on the other hand N900 having a higher resolution
          Partial score: N900 4 x 3 iPhone

          Round 6: Batteries
          Things get complicated ... the iPhone is exhausted, and spent all his energies in the previous round ... This fact is easy for the Nokia 1320 mAh removable battery against an internal battery of 1219 mAh on iPhone.
          Partial Score: 5 x 3 iPhone N900

          Round: Browsers
          The iphones Mobile Safari browser will be faster but the absence of the Flash presentation in Mozilla on the Nokia see him defeated.
          Partial score: N900 6 x 3 iPhone

          Round 8: GPS
          The iPhone will try not giving up by easily winning the eighth shot with A-GPS. iPhone locks GPS faster and have a nice navi map.
          Partial score: N900 6 x 4 iPhone

          Camera and Video
          The reaction that everyone expected from the 'iPhone is not seen, and his room without flash 3.15Mpx that records video at 640 × 480 @ 30fps, not anything against 5Mpx Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and video recording in widescreen at 848 × 480 @ 25fps of N900.

          Final Score: N900 7 x 4 iPhone

          The difference could be even greater, because some features are not just considered as:

          * QWERTY
          * Video Call
          * Radio FM Stereo
          * FM Transmitter
          * MULTI-TASKING(the most important)

          Fantastic win for N900 and its OS Maemo 5 ...the iPhone is defeated ...

              there is something that se fans need to know:-

              X2 is manufacturer by FOXCONN not SE themselves , that's mean ,

              X2 IS MADE BY FOXCONN, with SE logo

              advice for SE , put a "FOXCONN" logo on the X2 , don't cheat se fans , they donno anything , u boost the megapixels to 12MP they think it is Exmor sensor ,u put a "cybershot" logo they think it is real "cybershot", but they donno that the "Cybershot" in the phone is just a program/software/UI

              u changed the shape/design of the phone , they donno u offer the same old outdated hardware ,
              next time, try to put some logo like:-
              256K colour screen
              QVGA 120FPS video rec.etc
              at the back cover there

              don't cheat SE fans , they are so pity!
              plus, hope u can give a free updated of WINMO 6.5 for X1 , TOSHIBA giving their user free updated to winmo 6.5.

                ..and yet, here you are screaming. Chill dude, I don't know why you're so worked up about this, but this is just a phone we're talking about here. It might be crap to some, while awesome to others, if you don't like this model, get other ones, simple, yes? The way you're ranting just there, you'd think that Nokia owes you something.

                Unless there's something you'd like to share here?

                    hi guys,

                    had been following i8910 omnia HD from quite some time and when i was almost sure that i am gonna buy it... N900 is announced.. :) ...now m interested, curious and watching n900... once it releases and i get an Hands-on experience, i'll make up my mind which one to go for.

                    As of now, i was just casually trying to compare the two phones. following are my observations:

                    Display:

                    N900: TFT Resistive Touch, 800x480 pixel, 3.5"
                    OmniaHD: AMOLED Capacitive Touch, 360 x 640 pixel, 3.7"

                    800x480 resolution would look surely awesome at 3.5" screen but it cant beat the AMOLED display. OmniaHD wins Hands Down (3 pts)

                    Dimensions & wt: Almost similar but Nokia weighs 33 grams more. I dunno if thats such a big deal. (1 pt to each)

                    Sound: Both Have Stereo Speakers, But Omnia got 5.1 Surround Stereo and DNSe
                    and it does sound better than iPod. Nokia ain't bad but cant match that exp. Omnia Wins here (3 pts)

                    Performance:
                    N900: TI 3420 CPU, 32GB Storage, 256 RAM, 768 Flash (VM)
                    OmniaHD: TI 3420 CPU, 8/16GB, 256 Ram, 256 Flash

                    It has been proven time and again that you just cant crash Omnia. No matter how hard you try. the Phone just refuses to die. Looking at N900 specs i can see Omnia Got beaten here. Also the extra Storage. N900 wins Hands down (3 pts)

                    Connectivity:
                    N900: EDGE/GPRS (Class 32), TriBand 3G (10/2 Mbps), Charges over USB, GPS (A-GPS)
                    OmniaHD: EDGE/GPRS (Class 12), TriBand 3G (7.5/5.6 Mbps), Charges over USB, GPS (A-GPS/GPS+)

                    Omnia Got lightning fast GPS coz of its GPS+ technology, i havent seen any other phone so fast in GPS but in EDGE & 3G N900 is bound to give way better performance. N900 Wins for me (3 pts)

                    Imaging: No comparison here. OmniaHD has got industry best Cam here, it even beats Pixon12MP Cam. Omnia wins Hands Down (3 pts)

                    Video Recording: Omnia Screwed itself here. HD Recording with pathetic audio. the experience is of feeling cheated. Nokia in this regard has always been very very reliable. And at WVGA video option it will rock. for me N900 anytime(3 pts)

                    Price: Ahh! Sigh!!! .. Omnia Wins Hands Down. i would have liked N900 to come around 500Euros... :'( Omnia Wins (3 pts)
                    ====
                    Apart From these major points some more features are also noticeable
                    N900 has linux based OS that means any linux app can be directly ported to Maemo. it just needs a bit of re-coding and you have plethora's of apps available at your door step. the Second Call Camera its VGA for N900 - another Thumbs up. The Microb Browser from Mozilla comes with Flash support. another goodie. And so is the fact that it got FM trasnmitter. at times this is real handy app. N900 Battery is a real disappointment. 1320 means just over a day of juice :( what a shame. also the Office app in N900 is "Documents to GO" which allows Editing of Office Docs as well. Great!!! i would give N900 3 points here.

                    Final Score (as per me)
                    N900: 13
                    OmniaHD: 13

                    So at the end of it.. i end up with a tie :(

                    also Service wise Nokia is way above, i have been a Nokia user since last 8 years and there is hardly a thing to complain. It's very very reliable. But since last two years (N96, N97, 5800XM) it has been doing a very lousy job of releasing new phones. So was looking to switch to i8910, but N900 surely changes the scenario.

                    But again price plays a BIG role in deciding as well. :((

                    see, i cant make up my mind yet.. mebbe guys you can help me point some more good/bad things and make my decision a simpler one.

                        Screen

                        800 x 480 pixels, 3.5 inches

                        SE X2 3.2"

                        800 x 480 pixels, 3.2 inches

                        The N900 has a bigger screen than the X2, and also is capable of displaying 16M colors versus the X2's 65K colors.

                        Maemo (GNOME based Linux OS)

                        SE X2
                        (WinMO)

                        Opinion:
                        The largest drawback to the SE X2 is the operating system; it is running on a very outdated operating system: Windows Mobile Professional.

                        The reason is that, in history, Microsoft's venture into the mobile industry did not amass the success required to compensate for the large development costs. It is a widely known fact that Microsoft does not have any plans to invest further into Windows Mobile, due to development costs and competition. This is why WinMO is so unoptimized for touch and has an extremely plain and outdated UI design.

                        This is especially evident, since Sony Ericsson, Samsung, HTC and other mobile phone developers have to create third party software such as the X2 Panel, TouchWiz, TouchFlo, etc. to update it's user interface. However, the transitions between the added 3rd party UI and the native WinMO interface isn't always smooth, and is limited by the fact that at the end of the day, it is not a native part of WinMO, but rather just an application that runs on top of WinMO to make it look prettier.

                        Maemo, however, has been around since 2005; and with each iteration, additional functionality and development is produced. Maemo 5 is not the first build ever to exist, but it is more like Windows 7 is to Vista, and therefore has the support of both the Maemo community, and linux community. Also, Maemo was already capable of running SNES emulators while running on obsolete TI OMAP 400 mhz processor (which is slower per mhz than the ARM Cortex A8), imagine the possibilities with the N900's powerful hardware. As can be seen, there has been alot more development in Maemo than with WinMo, simply because Maemo is open-sourced, and therefore has little to no development costs: that is the advantages of open-sourced OS as opposed to a closed-source OS.

                        N900
                        - Faster more reliable ARM Cortex A8 600 mhz processor (which is also more power / mhz than the Qualcomm); PowerVR SGX graphics (enabling full 3D effects).

                        Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2
                        - 8.1 MP Camera

                            Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970The Nokia N900 is only about 10-45 grams more than phones of it's class (and that's including phones without qwerty keyboards).

                            That's like 40 grains of rice. :S

                            And only 5 mm thicker than an iPhone.

                            I don't think 5 mm makes much of a difference; atleast if you consider it has a full qwerty keyboard.

                                Mo, 06 Sep 2009And by the way they both have the exact same processor. I d... moreI think there's a possibility for PS1 emulation on the N900. PS1 is emulated on the iPhone, and both the iPhone and N900 run on the same hardware. In addition, the N900 and iPhone are based on desktop enviroments Linux and UNIX respectively.

                                The restricting factor in PS1 emulation in the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD is the OS. Symbian OS is built more on security features, and memory leakage prevention for stability. It was designed for hardware that lacked memory and power.

                                The N900 linux operating system already has had a history of emulation; there were people playing SNES9X on the older MAEMO builds running on N810 and it's old out-dated TI OMAP 400 mhz processor. Imagine the possibilities with the N900's ARM Cortex A8 600 mhz (faster per mhz than the old TI OMAP), and the PowerVR SGX graphics.

                                Look at the Satio's demo of OpenGL ES 2.0 on the PowerVR SGX as an example:

                                    Why are people getting mad over this device? As to clear off people, this device is not considered a smartphone/phone but a MID, why do you guys/ladies think that the N900 has a browser based on the Mozilla engine, was not announed in Nokia World, and has a three digit number as the Nokia Tablets (ie N800, N810...). As to the camera being weak, there are no more than 5 devices with a camera higher than 5 megapixels and that's also including the unofficial/not out yet phones. If you like Sony Ericsson phones go out and spend $800+ dollars (for those of us living in the US) like the Xperia X1.
