The nokia n91 is a superb phone no doubt but there are 2 competitors. samsung i300 that comes with windows mobile 5.0 Yes thats right 5.0 not 2003 se as stated in many places. it has a 3gb drive which is one gb less then the n91 but who cares. its smaller and lighter.

    the usb is 2.0 aswell :) means u get super fast transfer... pretty nifty

      You can put whatever you like in the 4gb. Word documents, videos, images, mp3s. Anything.

      The USB cable and sync station is compatible with the Microsoft mass storage device driver. Meaning when you slide your N91 into it's docking station it acts as an external hard drive that you can access through Windows My Computer etc.

        hey guys, does anyone know if the 4GB memory is only for mp3's or you can put videos in there too, cause i don't think that 30MB is gonna be enough?

            To be honest, for it's projected price, i'd be expecting at least one of the 3.2mp cameras and a card slot. 4gb is great until you fill it with mp3's and have no room to take any photos or videos.

            The absence of a card slot also means that the only way to get date OFF the phone is via the cradle, or bluetooth. And lets face it, bluetooth isn't nearly fast enough to be convenient. And the cradle will be sat on your desk at home. At the moment if i want to transfer an mp3 or mpeg to my mate's phone, all i have to do is pop the card out the top of my mda3 and slot it into my mate's phone. hey presto!

            Sooner rather than later, storage will be a problem. If it had a card slot then it's life line can increase as memory technology advances. Memory technology advances light years faster than most hardware.

            Still, it wont deter me from this being highest on my list of prospective next phones. And we cant have everything i suppose =)

              nokia is oh so queer my boyfriend loves this phone.the big manly screen is his fav thing.
              The keypad is rad to.
              P.S.Fluffy my poodle has chewed the phone and it still works okay.

                What do we need more then this a 2mp camera With 1600x1200 pixels,Video & at 1st time a 4GB microdrive in it..............

                  Great post, really.
                  I want to add that there are phones which are less affected by the loss of price.
                  Those phones are usually stylish-expensive phones, especially the ones like 8800 and vertu.Nseries phones are hi-tech&stylish-expensive, so their price will drop slowly than normal models price.
                  Don't forget also that nokia prices are slower in going down.
                  However I think that a Nseries hp could remain hi-range for more than a year (as sharp 902).

                  P.S. N70 will be sold with a cheap price from vodafone around Christmas.

                      However i think it all depends on who you market your device for. The K700 series was clearly an average, jack of all trades handset. It failed at none but exceled at none either. These sort of phones are the kind of thing that the average phone user will buy. They are also cheap even when they were first released, by cheap i mean you could get it on a £20-30 a month tariff at no initial cost. They are designed to fade into existance within a few months, as most of their draw is from looks and fashion trends.

                      Phones like the N91 are more closely related to the P910i and the 9500 type of handset. They're geared towards a fairly specific market. And they are expensive and big, they all are, without exception. The P910i when it was first released was in the region of £520 unconnected, a price not disimilar to that projected for the N91.

                      But it was by no means much of an improvement on the P900, or even any other phone in it's class at the time. But it still sold bucket loads, people still paid over the odds for it. The Samsung D500 is still our most sold phone despite it being very similar to lots of other phones that have come and gone, it's nion identical to the K700i, the only difference is that the D500 was marketed differently and is considered to be 'cool'.

                      I don't expect us to sell anywhere near the volume of units that phones like the 6230i and K750i have, thats just the nature of the smart phone. You WILL be paying at LEAST £100-200 for one of these handsets on a contract, whether you buy one now, or wait for the next wave.

                      Waiting for the price to come down, or a more advanced model to come out is a losing battle. By the time that happens the next wave of technology will be here. And they'll be just as expensive. There is no way to get up to date technology at an everyday price.

                      It's all a matter of how long you want to wait, and how long you can stand to stick with your 1+ year old handset. Sure, the N91 is missing a few things. Namely expandable memory and a better camera.

                      But it's the best you're gonna get for the next 6-8 months if you want a multimedia handset with a huge storage capacity. If you consider that from release of information it takes at least 6 months for a phone to be released, not counting delays.

                      The SE Hermione is on the horizon, but you can expect that to be more expensive than any of the N Series. Closer to 8800 territory i'd say, and not to be out until at least Summer given the sparse information about it. The I300 may be cheaper, but it's just as big, only slightly slimmer.

                      Pay now, pay later. or dont pay at all and go for out of date technology. Unfortunately thats about all choice any of us have.

                          anybody know when it's officially launched in UK?? i heard there was an article in The Times today that said delayed until summer at best. Some issue with software patents between Apple / Microsoft / Nokia etc??

                                the trouble is steve that the se k700i was sought after and true if you wait it comes down,,its about 80 quid now,, but the interest has gone to other models..People waiting for theses phones now to go down in the usual 9 month period will be gone and in the past and the next phone will be eagerly anticipated.That said tho some models still hold there price for a long time.i think the N series is the limit for me in a way that there not doing anything new to justfy the bulk.I am using 6680 which is still a chunky block and i think slider and clamshell phones will in crease to lessen the size in the future as we still need a fairly large screen!

                                      RE: 8-9mp camera phones: only as much as you Daz. A quick google only shows results for camera phones up to 7mp (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0503/05030901samsung_schv770.asp) but thats still mighty impressive.

                                      The n Series is obviously not going to appeal to everyone. Size and weight for me a pretty insignificant. i currently have an MDA3 (xda2s, M5000, Imate pda2k) which is considerably larger and heavier than any of the N Series, and the MDA4 i was considering is even bigger!

                                      It's the same story as with everything. new technology comes along and it's slightly bulky and expensive. Within the year it'll be half the size and a hundred of any currency cheaper.

                                      It's a matter of whether you wait the extra 8 months to a year for cheaper smaller versions. If size and weight are an issue, but you still want the large capacity mp3 capability, you could have a look at the Samsung I300. Just be aware that Samsung prices are generally more than Nokia, but the reduced feature list of the Samsung, and the fact that they seemingly employed a high school student to design the housing, might still make it cheaper. who knows!

                                      I'd personally rather wait for the W500/550 over the W800. Not a great deal of difference with any of the SE phones but i always liked the S700 of the K700 and my stance doesn't change with the walkman series.

                                        it is just so big and heavy that it may not fit into many pockets, not even thinking of carrying out around my neck.also the key pad seems quite problematic.the keys are all very small and shapeless. it can be a bit difficult to press especially the keys on the bottom line. and i've been waiting for soo long to get this. finally after meeting it in a show lately i've decided that it is probably not worth the money and the waiting. as a former nokia devotee i think i'll go for W800 at last.
