First of all you end up paying more then the price of the phone contract-free and second you can have all sorts of unpleasant surprices from the carrier! Try to get your next phone contract free so you won't depend so much on the carrier!

Sun, 25 Nov 2010It's a well known fact of life that good guys always get it... moreSpent 2hrs on call to Vodacom SA. No one there knows what is going on. Passed me from pillar to post. Eventually they found someone who said they would get their legal dept to mail me tomorrow. Hello Peter site was also answered by Vodacom.
                Shall wait and see.
Luckily it's only a phone and not a house or car this time, but if they don't sort it out, don't know what I will do.
The deal ends on Tuesday, so Vodacom better take their fingers out of their butts and sort it out.

Instead of buying phones from carriers and be subject for their arbitrary rules,it's better to buy your phones from certain people who...have their methods of getting phones...i got n96 when it appared at 200€ and Galaxy S for 250€....how the phone were obtained...irrelevant...the only thing that matters is I got the phone I wanted...try to get in touch with those kind of people in your country...sometimes being fair in life is equivalent with being stupid...So be smart...

Jon, 24 Nov 2010Thanks Brynn for the info. I am all set to get it but Voda... morecredit scores second hand shops ebay the rudy lot are horrible arnt they,my mother got a black mark because she paid off her catalogue with a cheque when they wanted her to accept credit and get mre money out of her in interest,it took 3 years to get right and really knocked the whole familys confidence..So i know exactly how angry and frustrated you must be..

Some people here i UK where i live cannot get mortgages to buy a house and when they get a credit check done its because of a late payment to their fone company..Swines they want your custom but have to do what they say.

I hope you get sorted but never think your on your own the whole world is full of hurt and woe and it always happens to us good people.brynn

I am all set to get it but Vodacom SA has put a spanner in the works for me to move to another network. They gave me a bad credit rating for nothing Now I'm trying to sort it out. I thought Vodacom was great but now they suck. They said it was a fault on their records but will take 3 days to sort out. The 96 may be gone b4 I fix the problem. If I lose out on the deal, Vodacom must give me an n8 for next to nothing!!! If you live in SA and are with Vodacom, do yourself a favour and get a free credit check on 0861105665. Vodacom won't tell you that they have marked you (I'm still a customer on 2 phones-no outstanding amounts)but I had to learn this from MTN. They marked me after my 2yr contract expired and I went prepaid on 1 phone.

it's a nice and different phone but it's hard to find, if it could be distributed all around South Africa, I'd highly appreciate it

The best phones mostly come from Nokia and Symbian is the os with many features.
If people want to compare os. They should know that the os with less features will be faster.
Nokia N96 is the greatest smartphone ever because of it features and functions.

When you get it check its got latest firmware it speeds things up,if not do *#7370# FULL FACTORY RESET WHICH WILL WIPE EVERYTHING AND GIVE YOU A VIRGIN FONE ,THEN UPDATE TO A FRSEHLY FORMATTED N96..

If like some people do and try just to update after months or days of usage you are applying a new ROM onto a heavily used dick Z which is full of temp files and other gunk that computers and smartfones build up,,ie cookies, caches, phalb thumbnails etc..

Try to use a faster memory card rather than the built in memory for video recording..Use inbuilt storage for videos and fotos but put big GBYTES of music onto memory card,,it takes a whiles to read through 24.5GB of music on my 32GB card but putting 12gb on internal memory it takes ages to refresh..

                                        The inbuilt memory is slow,not even class 2 but its made that way to last the life of the machine;

Slow memory but rugged can be formatted many times without wearing it out.

Fast memory can only be formatted a limited amount of times before failure.

The 220MHz is fast enough for all the inbuilt tasks but remember ALL video and music is proccessed by special seperate decoder chips.

Be reasonable with apps and themes and try to use the inbuilt themes as they are specifically designed and tested for the said device,,themes you get of the net from zedge.net or others DO CAUSE compatability problems..Nokias built in themes are very lightweight in KB so they run fast..With respect some themes are in MB and can look good but do cause problems cause ive had nokia/symbian since 2003..

Once youve pressed for a command give the fone a chance to respond and also on first boot up everytime wait till the operater logo has appeared then give ALL smartfones another 10 seconds to let it start up all the proccessess it has to do..
