n97, 15 Nov 2009is the speed of n97 slow because it has a big memory? and i... moreThe recent firmware update has really improved the speed; the phone is faster and handles better. I really don't experience any lag, even when i have 3 or 4 apps running at the same time. I find that the slowest thing on the phone is the music player - when i open this i usually have to wait a couple of seconds, but other apps open instantly.

... morethe sliding mechanism is very sturdy. i have dropped the phone once while the keyboard was open from a height of about half a metre, and there is no damage to the slide mechanism..all i have now to show for that clumsy mishap is a scratch on the side of the phone.

Does the "FEET" beak easily? WHen I slide it open and close, does it break easily?

It's been almost 2 weeks now since I updated to the v20 firmware, so I feel that I can give a little review of it based on my experience. Before the update, the biggest problems I had were - web browser would crash and I would have to restart phone (this happened every other day or so); I've had to hard reset 2 times because the phone wouldn't turn on (I would get the dreaded white Nokia screen); poor GPS - it would only get a lock on my position if I had WAP/AGPS connection. Overall, prior to the update, the phone was somewhat sluggish and hanging wasn't uncommon. Since the update however, the phone handles much better, is faster, and is much more stable. I haven't had to restart the phone once due to freezing/crashing. And when I turned it off several times (just to test if it would turn back on) - it did!! The GPS is still fairly poor, but I think I'm one of the unlucky ones who got an earlier handset and nothing but a repair or replacement phone would fix it. For the moment this doesn't bother me because I don't need it anyway; I can load maps and that'll do me for now. In general, I finally feel that the phone is now able to properly perform the plethora of features it was intended to. I'm relieved more than anything else!

I can't get the latest update of v20 yet - no surprises as I wasn't able to get v20 until 3 weeks after its release on my Australian black N97. Is there nothing at all that's changed?

Yup, nothing new it seems. Looks like the v20/27 update is primarily intended for MEA.
www.nokiausers.net reports even worse stability on this version.
Thank you Nokia, keep us wanting and waiting even more!

An update to the new v20 firmware is available from NSU.
The original version was v20.0.019
The new version is v20.0.027
I have not seen the change log, so not sure what has been added.
Let's hope it at least includes smart dialing, Skype and an improved Facebook app.

still not sure how i coped before it :)
after youve updated it the 1st time its fabulous
and i couldnt ask for a better phone :D

N97 phone design is excellent but with the old and badly designed icons and the poor themes
Icons design compettiton! Can some one suggest it to nokia? I like blackbeery icons the most!:)
why not designed the 3d feel buttons?
the scrollbar design can be better. Slimmer
sidebar can be put at the bottom of sceen when in landscape
back, option buttons etc can be replaced by icons!
Am I asking to much??????

Anonymous, 14 Nov 2009If nokia just make some cosmetic changes to the firmware ... moreDefinitely agree with you - the fact that the UI looks practically identical to other Nokia phones from 5 years ago isn't a good thing...they definitely need to spruce up the UI to refresh the feel of the Symbian OS. At the very least, can't we get new icons??!! They should also make it a bit more intuitive, so less taps are needed to perform functions.
