RandyRiffin, 20 Oct 2021Well said.👍 I needed something like this. I see you like th... moreSorry for asking, but how old are you? Nokia is the one brand that invented GSM network and mobile technology. The first GSM call made, was with a Nokia device in a nokie made network. I am not talking satellite tech, that is a very different tech and was only used by the army. Yeah Nokia never stopped innovating even after iphone came along and did nothing but selling a worthless slab with screen, as it was capable of nothing at that time and was sold as a smartphone. Jobs was a sell genius. If Apple did not have Jobs, well, the market would have been very different right now. Better competition and less chinaware. Most of the stuff in your device that you might think is new, it was a long time ago on a Nokia device: Night mode photography, living Images (moving), refocusing after taking the picture, OiS, Pixelbidings (first device with that tech was 808 pureview) wireless charging in a smartphone, noise cancellation and powerful mic's that beat anything at that time on the market, you could go to a concert and take a video without that useless sound a device had back that, it was miles away from anything on the market. And the list is veeery long... but well then they got scammed by elop and that is where apple paid big money to grow no matter what the costs (kill competition, go on-top if not, loose as competition is better... sort of thing). hmd did NOT aquire Nokia. Nokia is still on the market but not for the end-customer and not with mobile phones. Their are full enterprise business right now. Just search for NOKIA and read about their stand in 2021. hmd Has licensed Nokia devices division (and name). That means, they are able to use all the intelligence Nokia gathered in all the years they were powerful enough to throw billions into nano-tech and flexible devices, even that has a long list of unspoken achievements. For what maters, Nokia ownes 11% of hmd shares, well at least it did 1 year ago. They also sell hmd made Nokia phones on their website, so they actually also show support to hmd. Or hmd is just their company that is separated just to not affect Nokia as a company if it fails.

RustyNaval128, 20 Oct 2021The Dimensity 800U is actually about as capable as the Snap... moreCapability and costs are two different things.;), if that would have not been so, why do you think motorola chose Dimensity 800 instead of snapdragon 765G? It might be designed faster but mediatek's CPUs are known to not be supported by devs. Or better said not enough. So performance might sunk because of that. But as i have said, i did not research that CPU in particular... all i know is that hmd used a mediatek CPU once (ignoring all the 100$ android go devices where it might come up) in their plethora of relesed devices, since then they never used one in a better spected device, they might have a reason...

Carol, 19 Oct 2021Did not research Dimensity 800U performance, but there must... moreThat's fine, if you prefer Nokia, then go for it. The phones I mentioned: A52, Redmi Note 10 pro are the best you can get, for the price, as MsWhoseTheBoss said: price is the single most important thing in a phone. I do not know what... but I know that a phone with this little features doesn't cost much to produce, so it should just be sold at a lower price and maybe that will benefit all of us.
And your excuse to other phones just having better features is they are "copy paste tracking devices", rather than helping the environment and giving long os support. Aight then.

Carol, 19 Oct 2021Yeah, they seem like they don't care for some people (... moreWell said.👍 I needed something like this. I see you like these stock android phones over chinese brands. How do you like the Google Pixel 6 launch?
Also, is there a story with hmd? Like did they acquire Nokia, and before Nokia was being innovative but now hmd changed their plan?

Carol, 19 Oct 2021Did not research Dimensity 800U performance, but there must... moreThe Dimensity 800U is actually about as capable as the Snapdragon 765G. The reason that Nokia chose the Snapdragon 480 is definitely due to costs.

If the workers there are good i cannot say, as i am yet to send a device in. They have spair parts but do not sell... not something i am a fan of. What i know is that when you want to repair your device you need to send it in. The device comes with a nokia app that offers all sorts of support, this kind of support being one of them. I would like for them tough to take a more opened attitude on repairability. But well, with 3* years waranty is also not something to neglegt, as in this 3 years at least the battery will need a replacement.

I&... moreOf course i am actually enjoying arguing with you, as you are by far one of the few persons in nokia comments sections that say something that's constructive agaist hmd and with whom i could actually talk. As for hmd, i waited for them to release another flagship, but i'm afraid they won't do it to soon, because of the reasons i mentioned before. Also i am afraid their flagship will also be huge and i am forced to go somewhere else. I actually have a thing on the fairphone 4 right now or nokia xr20 (even tough is huge, at least i could use it without any case). This are the only devices worth to mention for me, well, maybe that samsung flip... software and quality for the money are tough a bit to meah for my taste, i love the idea and the looks, but well. I almost bought the pixel 5 then out came the fairphone and it got on my list now, but i'll wait for an hmd response as my phone still kicks a?? and is ready for android 11.

RandyRiffin, 19 Oct 2021My original point, if you haven't read, was that Motor... moreYeah, they seem like they don't care for some people (or maybe a lot), the problem is hmd is quite small company and cannot afford risking doing what Nokia did, to risk and innovate, especially that there are this "brands" that do nothing but wait to see what they can further steal. If you want innovation and evolution then you need to invest in that rare companies that are willing to do so. As far as i can see hmd started aggressive (especially with the bold device that nokia 9 pureview is, by the way, has amoled) but got stucked in a pile of mistakes. Don't get me wrong, my nokia 9 is the most unique device i ever owned besides nokia 3650 and 7610, it stands out from the mass, and is as perfomant as it was, when it was new 2 years ago, but i can see why it does not fit in the avarage user pocket, at the end it was not meant for that. Anway to get back, hmd changed the strategy, from competing against chinese, corean and whuthut brands, to actualy bring a change of mindset in the mobile world, instead of putting hardware on top of hardware what this days is not quite what i would call different, worthy of attention or usefull. They decided to go for longer support and enviroment plus a device that can last that long. I would actually like for them to follow the footsteps of fairphone and bring innovation in that area, that kind of innovation won't be seeing to many clowns stealing as they all go for the quick buck, copy paste, cheap labor "solutions".

I have nothing against motorola as a brand, i just do not want to support the company behind it. But at the end, i could also list a thosend of devices that on paper are better then anything you listed here. I mean, i slowly do not see the point... If one wants to support hmd, that person should be allowed to do so and to be told the pros and cons and personal experience instead of bashing and trash talking (i do not mean you here). This device is quite a good alternative to the mass of copy paste tracking devices comming from the far east, that is why i do not follow your arguements, especially when you say you want nokia devices to get better. Well it has the downside that is huge...

RandyRiffin, 19 Oct 2021But I agree, Xiaomi phones do not have that great software.... moreHm, yes and no. 480 is quite a beast for the price. Of course their is not all milk and sugar but it keeps up with the midrangers and actually beats a lot of them older 600 series CPU's going straight against 700 series. Of course not the newest releases, still, the CPU is quite impressive and i find that the package as a whole is well balanced and performant. Of course not for everybody, who can stand trash software, tracking and does not care about politics and the way devices (and anything else, for that mater), well that person finds xiaomi and chinese brands fair. I am not one of them. I find Fairphone almost fair and a brand that should be supported to become fair for everybody.

Carol, 19 Oct 2021When you talk about eBay second hand products that were use... moreHey Carol, I was kinda wondering about something. Does Nokia have service centers? If so, are they good? Also, what about the Nokia's spare parts availability? I'm asking these because repairability can affect longevity of these phones. It's also the reasons why my 5 year old Galaxy J2 Prime still works after all these years.

Carol, 19 Oct 2021When you talk about eBay second hand products that were use... moreNah it's ok I'm unbiased not like most people. I'll see the difference, just tell me. Remember we are arguing friendly in a website based on tech we all love.
I've had clean software with my Pixel, and it's great, but, you know, sometimes you just wish you had a lot of the features that others have. I'm that sort of guy who upgrades every year or 2, so yeah, having a lot of software support isn't a concern for me, maybe it is for you.

Carol, 19 Oct 2021When you talk about eBay second hand products that were use... moreIf you want great software and updates over anything else (including better displays and performance), then ok. This phone is the best for you, but let me ask you something, what is stopping you from buying a cheaper Nokia like the X10 or G10, or C10? over this X20. I would argue those phones are actually outstanding value, as they are dirt cheap and can compare admirably to the likes of the Redmi 9A and Realme C21 with (as you say) great clean software. But just this Nokia X20 in specific isn't that great of a deal, just because it's priced closer to better alternatives.

Carol, 19 Oct 2021When you talk about eBay second hand products that were use... moreOk, so I get what you mean. Refurbished phones that have been used and battery drained. So I won't recommend phones that are 2 years old. Ok, you really need good software support and clean os. Well then Samsung phones are a no-go (even though as I've said Samsung offers 3 years of updates).
But there are still better choices than this. Check out Google Pixel 5 and Motorola Edge 20 Fusion cost roughly the same as the Nokia X20 and have same clean os, Motorola with the same 3 years of updates.

I won't pay a dime for none of them... 150 is way to much. I do not know if you realise the difference between a dead battery mega used device and a new one, but some do. So yeah, if anyone should get that OnePlus, then they should get it new outta the box. Actually if anyone should get any of them devices you mentioned, they should pay for new, especially for the quite old ones. As i have said some look at the whole package, not at a CPU and screen. I am actually laughing here just to read the comparison and the thing you call "better choice". Your will to put Nokia down gotta be darn huge. As for samsung, I ment the whole package. Clean OS, mega waranty and support, 5G, good hardware all around an not just the CPU. If you can't see the difference, well then don't bother, as it's clearly biased and against nokia with no real argument.

Carol, 18 Oct 2021Your information is all over the place a quite a lot of mis... moreMy original point, if you haven't read, was that Motorola bounced back REAL hard, they were just like Nokia: in the 60hz lcd gang, but they stepped up their game BIG time, going to 144Hz Oleds! Now it's just Nokia's turn, and it looks like they aren't bulging. But what p*sses me off so hard is that they actually made Oled phones before! Like literally if you go into phone finder and select Nokia and Oled, you'll see they actually made those stuff 7 years ago! And like the display is pretty much the only area for Nokia to improve on, and then they could actually compete with other phones. And I want Nokia to improve, believe me!

Carol, 18 Oct 2021Your information is all over the place a quite a lot of mis... moreYes, this phone has a 1080p display, not 720p, but that doesn't change the fact that the display quality is lagging behind those of phones that are 3/4th of the price. Anyways, you like lots of software updates? Well check out the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion, it's about the same price as the Nokia X20, it's got the same stock android and 3 years of updates, better 90Hz Oled, Bigger Battery and faster charging, Better Dimensity 800U chipset, better camera system.

Carol, 18 Oct 2021Your information is all over the place a quite a lot of mis... moreBut I agree, Xiaomi phones do not have that great software. By the way, I'm talking about raw cpu horsepower. If you compare cpus on nanoreview.net, you'll see the SD 732g is substantially more powerfull than 480, software will be able to counter that.

Carol, 18 Oct 2021Your information is all over the place a quite a lot of mis... moreMaybe there's some pricing differences in other countries, but in Australia if you go to eBay, you'll actually find the Oneplus 7T for on average 200 AUD! and converting that to USD is 150! Remember, this phone is 2 years old. Check the link:
                                        https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=oneplus+7t&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=oneplus+7t&_osacat=0
                                        A52 5G is 400 AUD dollars (300 USD)
                                        https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=samsung+galaxy+a52+5g&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=oneplus+7t&_osacat=0
You say none of the phones have clean software, actually since Oneplus 7T is reaching its age, it will keep the clean oxygen os software that I would actually argue is better than stock android as you get more customisation features. And you won't get the controversial 'merging with color os feature' that new onepluses get.
And actually Samsung phones do have 3 years of software updates and 4 years of security updates. It's a shame I have to search these articles up for you:
                                        https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-android-updates-1148888/
                                        https://www.theverge.com/2021/2/22/22295639/samsung-galaxy-device-2019-four-years-security-updates
Anyways, having lots of updates is no good if you don't have a great phone to start with. You want a phone that's a great whole package eh? well guess what you could just get my phone, the pixel 3a (that's right), like it's literally 100 USD (a lot cheaper than nokia) and it hilariously has lighter build, OIS, Oled, not large (what you like), stereo speakers, and same fast charging.
