I switched from iPhone SE (2016) to the Nothing Phone 1.
I do not like the change very much after three months.

    about the iPhone SE
+ it is small and fits into every pocket! (fav feat)
    + balanced sound from speaker
    - it is not android (my first iPhone ever)
    - the battery was in the end of its days heating when charged and the screen broke
    -> new phone

    about nothing
    + Android features
+ Battery. It charges very very fast and the battery lasts incredibly long even after using it the entire day.
    + storage
+ display & animation. Display controls feel very fluid and fast to react. The animations are clever and well designed.
    - size; it is huge. Almost all of my trousers have smaller pockets than it. This makes it really hard to carry it around and access it quickly.
    - sound. The sound is very unbalanced when you put it on loud speakers. The bass is almost unhearable and the medium ranged sounds are overpitched. At least that is my impression sometimes. It can get loud, which is definitely useful.
~ glyphs. the glyphs are fun, but even if you synchronize them to the music, it does not pay off well. It's not in synch. You cannot customize which light to shine for bass, high notes, etc.
    - calls. Call quality is great. However when the lockscreen goes dark, it automatically ends the call. One can disable this, but I have not experimented on how well this works.
~ camera. Although it is said to be one of the best on the market, photos and images look bad once you zoom in. Before and after taking a photo.
    - speech to text. There is no dictating function embedded in the keyboard. Google Assist seems to be a go-to, but not sure if that is what I am looking for. I used Speech to Text a lot and really would appreciate this feature in another update.

In conclusion, for my use it lacks several features that assist with communication.

nyuuzyou, 20 Aug 2023I switched from Pixel 6a and I can say that Nothing (1) is ... moreThe other problem is OS support, which the Pixel has more of.

ssg210, 19 Aug 2023should I get this phone or a pixel 6aI switched from Pixel 6a and I can say that Nothing (1) is better in almost everything in comparison. The main problem compared to the Pixel is the camera. If it is not the main parameter of choosing a smartphone, you can take Nothing without thinking twice

The truth is that the perfect phone has never been made and never will be simply because everyone has a different idea on what a phone should have, and should not have.
I've never had brand loyalty to any particular phone manufacturer and laugh when I see how zealous the fanboys get when someone dares to criticise the phone that they own.

magnaroader, 17 Aug 2023Having your own opinion is the right of anyone. But trying ... moreI have never tried to force my views on anybody who is considering purchasing this phone. I merely pointed out it's shortcomings.
When I purchased mine it came bundled with a Nothing 45w charger which seemed strange when the the Nothing software capped it at 33w. Nobody knew at the time that the NP2 would be wired at 45w charging, which the NP1 could also support as shown by the included charger.
The NP2 screen has a maximum brightness of over 1000 nits. Nothing's software capped the screen brightness on the NP1 to 700 nits even though it is also capable of over 1000 nits. The result is a screen with a dull off white colour.
I also pointed out that the Glyph lights serve no useful purpose because they only show when the phone is lying face down, which is something I would never do as it leaves it open to getting scratched in doing so.
The NP1 has stereo speakers but I found the top speaker volume to be so low that it was not really stereo, something that GSMArena also commented on in their review.
All of the above meant that I personally was dissatisfied with the phone's performance but if they are acceptable to other people then that is their decision to buy it and I wouldn't try to force them to change their mind.

The 7 Gen2 is indeed also an argument for longevity. Bloatware-wise I would probably just install the xiaomi.eo ROM. Had MIUI before and wasn't bothered with it. Better than PixelExperience to me as that lacks some handy features. Now it's just the question if I can live with the camera xD But the Poco F5 is so much in front in every department expect camera to the Pixel 7a that I might need to compromise on the camera.

I have seen the NP1 advertised at £199 new & sealed on a certain auction site with no takers and even less at £149 for 'Open and unused' so the initial hype is over and they aren't selling.

The reason I ask is because the phone 1 is officially released in my country and now that phone 2 is out, the phone one is heavily discounted to half it's original local retail price. Given that I don't really care for having the "latest Specs" like some of the weirdos in this comment section, I was curious if I could purchase the phone 1 and get a decent experience.

I paid £399 in the UK for the Nothing 1 phone with 8/236Gb specs but only £341 for the Poco F5 with 12/256Gb specs. The difference between the Snapdragon 778 in this phone and the Snapdragon 7+ gen 2 in the Poco F5 is like getting off a bicycle and jumping into a Ferrari.
The bloatware and ads on the F5 were not a problem. Following videos on YouTube I was able to remove both in around 10 minutes and I have never seen an ad since.
Camera wise I believe they are equal in quality but I don't bother using it much.
One of the major downers on the NP1 is the poor sound quality, the volume from the top speaker is so low it might as well not be there.
I really tried to like this phone but it didn't deserve the hype surrounding it when it was released, I soon discovered that it was just another substandard mid range phone in a fancy wrapping.

Here in Germany the 256GB version is good value for money and I can't find anything better, really. That also considers software updates. And camera-wise I don't see a clearly better phone it this price range 370€ as well. Only other phone I consider is Poco F5 but there I need to open the bootloader so I can install the bloatware-free MIUI. And I wanted to avoid that tbh.

Everything mentioned above is correct and I'm fully satisfied with my phone 1. Something auto brightness level is a little bit problem but not major. Phone is very smooth and playing games like codm in low graphics is good for long session though the processor is getting old now. Without gaming battery life is consistently giving around 7/7.30h sot. Now I'm eagerly waiting for Nothing os 2.0. Software experience is phenomenal.

SOT is around 6.30 to 7 hrs but without any gaming. 4th 778G is a strong processor if we look back a year ago. Don't compare with today's processors because an year ago 778g was king of mid rangers. 5g connectivity is really awesome and phone does not heat up. Only 2 flaws I find about this phone is the screen brightness level and the speaker quality. Rest everything is good and my wife loves everything about this phone as she is not net picky about anything. All the above reviews are done by me as I am a tech guy.

The selling point about this phone was the hype surrounding the Glyph lights on the back which in practice serve no useful purpose at all. You will only see them working if the phone is lying face down on a flat surface. If the phone is in your pocket, or if you are holding it, or if your phone is face up on the table then you won't see them so it is just a sales gimmick.
The screen on this phone is also a bit dire. It is capable of reaching 1200 nits brightness but Nothing capped it at 700 nits solely to make the battery look good in reviews but the result is that it looks a light grey instead of white. The screen also has huge bezels which reduces the screen size considerably.
The camera is average but certainly no better than one found on phones with an equal price tag.
The phone received one update to Android 13 and a security level dated June 2023 but it is largely forgotten now that Nothing have released the NP2 model.

Anyone who actually owns this device, how is it now after a year of updates? Anything improve? Cameras?
