Carl Pei promised that OS 2.0 would be released by the end of August for the Nothing (1) but searching around the Internet sites it appears it was a promise he couldn't keep because nobody seems to have received it.

Whether I can read my emails. I don't give two hoots about the camera quality when I consider buying a new phone. If you think that the camera is the most important thing then you have a problem.

I switched from iPhone SE (2016) to the Nothing Phone 1.
I do not like the change very much after three months.
about the iPhone SE
+ it is small and fits into every pocket! (fav feat)
+ balanced sound from speaker
- it is not android (my first iPhone ever)
- the battery was in the end of its days heating when charged and the screen broke
-> new phone
about nothing
+ Android features
+ Battery. It charges very very fast and the battery lasts incredibly long even after using it the entire day.
+ storage
+ display & animation. Display controls feel very fluid and fast to react. The animations are clever and well designed.
- size; it is huge. Almost all of my trousers have smaller pockets than it. This makes it really hard to carry it around and access it quickly.
- sound. The sound is very unbalanced when you put it on loud speakers. The bass is almost unhearable and the medium ranged sounds are overpitched. At least that is my impression sometimes. It can get loud, which is definitely useful.
~ glyphs. the glyphs are fun, but even if you synchronize them to the music, it does not pay off well. It's not in synch. You cannot customize which light to shine for bass, high notes, etc.
- calls. Call quality is great. However when the lockscreen goes dark, it automatically ends the call. One can disable this, but I have not experimented on how well this works.
~ camera. Although it is said to be one of the best on the market, photos and images look bad once you zoom in. Before and after taking a photo.
- speech to text. There is no dictating function embedded in the keyboard. Google Assist seems to be a go-to, but not sure if that is what I am looking for. I used Speech to Text a lot and really would appreciate this feature in another update.
In conclusion, for my use it lacks several features that assist with communication.

ssg210, 19 Aug 2023should I get this phone or a pixel 6aI switched from Pixel 6a and I can say that Nothing (1) is better in almost everything in comparison. The main problem compared to the Pixel is the camera. If it is not the main parameter of choosing a smartphone, you can take Nothing without thinking twice

Dickie Dick Dickens, 17 Aug 2023Thank you very much for this detailed answer! Very much app... moreThank You.
The truth is that the perfect phone has never been made and never will be simply because everyone has a different idea on what a phone should have, and should not have.
I've never had brand loyalty to any particular phone manufacturer and laugh when I see how zealous the fanboys get when someone dares to criticise the phone that they own.

magnaroader, 17 Aug 2023Having your own opinion is the right of anyone. But trying ... moreI have never tried to force my views on anybody who is considering purchasing this phone. I merely pointed out it's shortcomings.
When I purchased mine it came bundled with a Nothing 45w charger which seemed strange when the the Nothing software capped it at 33w. Nobody knew at the time that the NP2 would be wired at 45w charging, which the NP1 could also support as shown by the included charger.
The NP2 screen has a maximum brightness of over 1000 nits. Nothing's software capped the screen brightness on the NP1 to 700 nits even though it is also capable of over 1000 nits. The result is a screen with a dull off white colour.
I also pointed out that the Glyph lights serve no useful purpose because they only show when the phone is lying face down, which is something I would never do as it leaves it open to getting scratched in doing so.
The NP1 has stereo speakers but I found the top speaker volume to be so low that it was not really stereo, something that GSMArena also commented on in their review.
All of the above meant that I personally was dissatisfied with the phone's performance but if they are acceptable to other people then that is their decision to buy it and I wouldn't try to force them to change their mind.

The 7 Gen2 is indeed also an argument for longevity. Bloatware-wise I would probably just install the xiaomi.eo ROM. Had MIUI before and wasn't bothered with it. Better than PixelExperience to me as that lacks some handy features. Now it's just the question if I can live with the camera xD But the Poco F5 is so much in front in every department expect camera to the Pixel 7a that I might need to compromise on the camera.
