it is true indeed that without proper care at your gadgets, whatever may they be, they are vulnerable to fast wear and tear, however, should the gadget be taken cared of properly, then I believe that choosing XDA mini s is indeed great since, like other users, I took it under contract, thereby it's free....I am learning to love my new gadget now...

Obviously people have different views on how the handset has been designed and it's functions. When used with care you should not have a problem. There are quite a few design flaws with the handset..
Stylus being at the bottom of the handset,
Stylus falling out if handset becomes loose.
Everything that can go wrong with the handset can be avoided if used with care.
I got the handset free with a contract so i've not wasted any money at all. Which is nice!
But overall this is the first step where an XDA has gone mini. Don't knock a work in progress.

If you are thinking about buying this PHONE... DON'T!!! No offence to people who like it OK.
I am notorious for buying the newest gadgets since I am addicted. I take better than normal care of my phones leaving them looking new even after 1 year. But this thing!!!
- They lock up at least once a day. When in standby, they forget that they are a telephone.... and force you to reboot to get it to receive and send calls. It like having a 2 year old child, you have to check up on the thing constantly.
- The housing is cheap.
- Paint flakes easily.
- After about one month of use, the keyboard slide out feature is sloppy and hangs up some what.
- The tabs on the battery access break very easily. So plan on buying a couple extra back covers since you have to drop the battery out EVERY time it locks up.
An All around, a total waist of the 500-600 bucks OR MORE that one may be bent over to pay.

Hi Mags, To answer your questions re wi-fi, there is a menu on your handset called hot spots directory. This will tell you where all the available hot spots are, usually airports and franchise restaurants.
To view how to do this go here..http://www.o2.co.uk/business/sme/waystoconnect/wlan
Also emails have to connect via mobile web and it has to be requested. XDAs don't support push email. (This is where they come direct) Handsets that can do this and have push email is blackberry.
However XDA's can have the blackberry software downloaded. Go here ..www.my-xda.co.uk and choose xda minis software.

EDGE = (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) is a radio technology that can give up to three times faster communication rates than GPRS.
In other words it's faster!

To answer your question coggy,
The handset comes complete with outlook 2002 on disc. The calender used is outlooks own but you can choose not to sync this.

I was wondering if anyone knew the default pin code for security?
Can not find this anywhere and have been advised it is 1234, but this code does not work on my mini.
Also to answer a previous question, yes an XDA can connect via WIFI but O2 will not help you set this up and it is dependent on your own modem connection and ISP as this is what is used to connect.
O2 won't set it up as it is not officially supported and prefer GPRS as they can charge for this.
Also have not found any compatible games to put on the XDA except the inbuilt games as of yet. Will post if this changes.

Hi
I am getting this product and wanted to know with regards to the sync with the calender, to/do's etc. I have outlook 97 with office 97. Is this the only application it will sync with because i don't like outlook 97. I currently have my calender on my desktop using the software provided with an old Palm PDA. I love this calender and sync's well. Im guessing this phone does not come with it's own software for your desktop to sync with the phone and view your calender etc on your desktop and the phone ? Any help appreciated

I am looking into buying the XDA Mini S but would like to know if I can access the internet on my phone via the wifi. As it is not GPRS does this mean I am able to use the internet without having to pay data fees associated with any contract?
