Nokia N93: Photo and video samples

30 July 2006
Nokia N93 was just released on the market and it’s still not available everywhere in the world. Because of its extended photo and video capabilities we believe that the most of the future N93 owners are interested in the quality of its camera. Until we are able to publish full review of the phone we are presenting you some photo and video samples and also some comparison shots to Sony Ericsson K800.

dudes, nokia have strong sales in all positions, in the high end, the n70, 6230i, n80 soon joining. midrange well all their new series40 3rd edition. low end well, the budget phones. they don't depend in just one part as sony ericsson in the high end. sony ericsson does poorly in the low end segment. the p990 its overpriced, considering its their strongest phone in benchmarks it loose the nokia S60.
comparing the camera quality i say better read more reviews... because the n93 take better pics than this.

tarantula, agree with you, that was really childish! :)
But still the topic is about n93 and k800, and we can't judge the quality by only a few pics!!!!! Soon there will be more reviews, and I hope gsmarena will make really trustworthy comparison as they did for the n80 and k800!!!

Now all people have expensive phones here!!!! P990, N91, 8800 Aston martin edition, RAZR D&G, etc, etc, etc.

But i am happy with my W800 and i wait for the W950 or W850, now i dont need more because i am happy with it.

I consider the fight between aman and N93 useless, N93 says that only poor people have walkmans, i dont read most childist post never!!! please, only write your opinion about some facts in the review or in general discussion, but say that walkmans is for poor people... is ridiculous!!
You know this: nokia is the first phone maker, and major sales arent with N series, either with E series... its in budget phones that nokia obtains the first place!!

now the conclussion is... i allow to you make your own conclussion

Symbian, this OS is an agreement between various makers for create a common OS, since EPOC time it was the idea. Now exist 3 versions: S60, UiQ and some FOMA phones use a unknown version. Apart of this, each maker have their own OS for only phones, if it is more complicated or not than symbian, it isnt the question here. Symbian is mainly to fight with the world monster: Microsoft, and later linux. This fight would be lost if each maker go with their own OS, this is the reason of S60 and UiQ existence, different UI for a diferent type of users.

As Dreadnough says, each company makes their own strategys to the market conquer, each maker has own approach to the users and basically follows your own way with the same end: sell

This forum is deformed with a lot of posts, some of them are interesting, others are amusing and some are annoying. The fact here is the analisys between cameras of two phones, leaving the fact that each one of these devices are from different segments and arent direct competitors

People, the N73 takes miles BETTER shots than the N93 and k800. That's a fact, u will see.
The n93 is for VIDEO capturing, it is nokia VIDEO flagship phone, not photo! If you want to, compare its video to K800's video!
Nokia offer to us three 3.2 megapixel camera phones: one for video (N93), one for photo (N73, whose video still miles better than SE), one all-in-one (N80), while SE offer to us only one crappy lens-cover-projection phone (k800) with horrible video, average photo (washed out colors, less contrast). Got the point?

Nobody seems to have mentioned that audio is dropped when zooming during a video recording - check the second video clip. Audio is dropped and you can hear a stuttering noise (from the zoom?). Plus, the video quality gets choppy until zooming stops.

The video quality can probably be fixed by new FW, but the stuttering noise is mechanical...

I´m not sure if this dogfight thingie between Aman and N93 is getting amusing or annoying...
Let me give you my opinion about these factors you discussed.

Aman here stated that he got tired about the so called "slow" Nokias. Well mate, the fact is that Symbian phones like the N- or E-series are not as fast as non Symbian phones such as the SE W-series. This is because Symbian is a more advanced platform. It is therefore totally senseless to compare these to phonetypes. It would be like calling computers bad because they crash more often than a pocket calculator...
Also, Nokia models are not slower than SE models, to claim otherwise would be a lie. My 6270 is actually faster than my pals K750i and he admits that. Those to models are somewhat compareable with eachother as they are both non-symbians.

It is also quite childish to call one brand the "finer" one just because you don´t see them as often as others.

About Amans last post. Well, Aman, I am afraid you missed the point with the N93 beeing comparable with the K800. The actual reason they were compared is because they both have a rather advanced camera. Maybe you have noticed? Not because they would be in some way equal. The N93 is a smartphone with all the newest features and a proper CAMERA and the K800 is a plain CAMERAphone. The only thing they compared were the cameras, since that´s the only thing those models have incommon. See it now or would you like me to explain it again?
It is also not true that the N70 is cheaper than all Walkmans.

And then to the thing that really amused me...
I mean guys, you are comparing mobiles judging on their prices... Come on, that kind of judging was popular in daycare times. The N-series doesn´t straightly compare to the P-series. Any company can make a box, fill it with features and then sell it for a huge price. Most companies are smart enough to realise the fact that not so many people buy such phones because of their size and price (if not to show off that is).

                N93

And u keep ignoring the fact that the Nokia's flagship n-series mobile N93 was reviewed against SE's ENTRY-LEVEL mobile the K800. So can u imagine SE's next cyber-shot mobile. Just read the review..ok wait....there..i pasted it for u:

"We are comparing the Nokia N93 photo quality to Sony Ericsson K800, only because we had one available, not because the two phones are direct competitors. Sony Ericsson K800 will compete on the market with anther recently released phone - Nokia N73."

                If Nokia's flagship n-series is only equivalent to SE's entry-level cyber-shot mobile, then...sigh

                No contest.

                  N93

"NOKIA does not live up to your expectations and you chose SE. Simple as that. "
                  Thank u for comprehending.
And BTW my 'over-exaggeration' regarding price was done purposefully, and by the way I see u crossing fact with fiction, I tawt u of all people would get it, cud'nt u tell mate?

                  My SE satisfies me.

                    Aman,

I had a couple phones in my life as well. I started with the 1 m Nokia brick, ericsson, nokia, ericsson, sony ericsson, etc. One particular experience stands out. I was one of the first people to buy the P900. Why? It had everything i needed back then. I had a meeting in Munchen with one of SIEMEN's executives and when i put my suit jacket gently on the chair i heard a small smash. I had the p900 in my waist pocket. I said, its fine, it barely hit the wood. After the meeting, i took out my phone. The whole screen was smashed to pieces. Nothing worked!!! Phone was dead! I took it to warranty and they said we do not cover things like this. I ended up paying 275 euros. That was a bit more than 50 % of the price i paid for it. So, for what i do, NOKIA satisfies me completely. For you, NOKIA does not live up to your expectations and you chose SE. Simple as that.

                      Aman,

                      P990 price= 750 euros.
                      N91 price = 550 euros.

I think i need to subtract the tangent in order to get the result you say : for the price of a p990 you can get two N91s and another .... Show me the way brotha.
I just picked up my NOKIA 8800 Aston Martin Edition so i reckon for the price i paid i could easily buy you 3 K800i phones so you can show off and annoy people without headphones.

Need i remind you how badly P990 scores in jbenchmark compared to N93? You keep ignoring this fact mate. Come with facts and not with stories with no proof.

                        To N93

                        Do u think i can't afford an N93 or N91?

                        Pls, lol..lol
Dude, i was the owner of 5 Nokia handsets. The last was the N70. Which by the way is cheaper than any Walkman phone. I ditched the Nokia brand 'cos of bad experiences(it's so slow..jus frustrating!).
And one more thing, u think that the N-series phones are all metal?
                        hahahah...lol
They are all hard galvinised plastic. That's right 'plastic'.
I own a P990i smartphone, with wireless (bluetooth) SONY ear phones and a 4GB memory stick pro duo, due to be upgraded in November when the 8GB card is released.

Now what was this about SE ppl can't afford Nokia mobiles? In my country Nokia is regarded as cheap mobiles, cos every second person has them.
Look at that hideous plastic Nokia 3310..3330..6680..6111 i cud go on and on with these plastic mobiles.
Where I cum from the elite crowd has Walkmans and Moto's V3x (as well as the gold D&G RAZR) as well as alot of Blackberry.

The price of my P990i cud buy u and ur girlfriend an N91 each, and the change cud buy another n-series mobile.

So please don't regard SE owners as being poor..cos u got another thing comin. People can u believe this guy?!

                          To AMAN,

Mate, you seem to have missed out some points in my post. If you do not like the N91 that is your problem. Do not come here bashing the N91. I use it almost everyday and so far, sound quality with the SENNHEISER headphones is miles better than on any SE. Point number two. You do not need to show off your cheap plastic phone in order to prove to people you are cool. This is what most SE users do. They cannot afford a proper phone, stylish, distinguished and they buy the cheaper SE walkmans. This is SE advantage. Lower prices. When, you will have four lowlifes in your face showing off and talking rude to you then you would opt for more drastic measures. My girl, lemme quote you, my drama queen, saw i was getting my jets started to break the group, and she simply pointed out, common sense: NO NEED TO SHOW OFF. You never know what the other person has in their pocket.

AMAN, you need to learn to read between the lines.

Can anyone tell me, why i should buy this phone, N93? I mean, i have the money, there is no money issue here.

                            Aman
I respect your opinion but when discussing questions around style an that, then nobody is wrong because it´s all a matter of taste.
But seriously, the N91 is a great phone and the best music phone out there, no doubt. The SE Walkman is COOL, not classy. I mean, they are orange... LOL. When has orange become a classy colour? The P990i and W900 are basically HUGE, and so is the N93. What classy is there in a huge orange elephant-phone which is so plastic that it hurts?
Walkman and SE phones most often try to be and look COOL (not the P-series though), Nokia often has a more timeless and CLASSY perspective in their designs, not all designs, but in the most.

                            N93
I don´t really agree that all SE users are rude, since my pal has got a K750i and he isn´t rude. But I´ve run into the same fenomen when I visited France lately. Some kids walked on the street playing Shakira from their K750´s, via speaker ofcourse... If my phone would have the speaker quality of the K750i, the I would like to keep it for myself...

lol...if thats not a fake cry from a drama queen..i don't know what is.
U really think that the N91 is a classy device?
                              Mmmh...lets look at some facts:

                              1. The phone looks abnormally ugly, the top looks like a brick.
                              2. Does not have video call...lol
                              3. Has a single camera..lol
                              4. Is super slow...haha
                              5. Doesn't even have a flash.

And u think its more classy than an SE Walkman? Pls give me a break. Walkmans are in a class of their own. And if ur story is so 'true', which i highly doubt, (cos if i had an N91 i'l be too embarrassed to pull that brick out of my bag/pocket) u just contradicted urself, 4 ppl had Walkmans against 1 N91.

You think that W900i is not classy?
You think P990i is not classy?

Pls, you guys should re-look at all those ugly Nokia n-series phones, they all look the same..ie. no new ideas at the Nokia factory.
Talking about ugly, have u seen how huge and ugly the N93 is when the phone is open...OMG!!!
Like a UK size 9 shoe!

And to those that think that Nokia are 'oh so innovative' with their so-called 'twist and shoot' mobile...lol
give me a break! The first twist n shoot mobile was the LG G7100.
And BTW Sony has licensed the gimmicky CZ lens to be used in Nokia mobiles, for those of u who dnt know.

Sony will always remain the market leader of multimedia devices. Nokia's glory days of 5110 and 3110 are like so over.

                              Cheers!

really the difference its comparable. sony ericsson pictures are OVEREXPOSED, i remenber in previous reviews taking that into a big account. now u people don't. the only thing i see sony ericsson winning its in colors reproduction. because noise levels in both phones are awesome, and still n93 won in the hardest test, OVEREXPOSURE! even thought u will see in other reviews the n93 taking better pictures than the ones show here.
and remenber SONY its not the best in camera. ITS CANON and nikon. sony its not the market leader in sales. ITS KODAK. and maybe its not even kodak. because nokia sold 100 millions camera phones in 2005. thats more than sony ericsson sells in 2 years. and those are only the camere ones!. i have seen it myself and the n93 took better pictures. and i mean a personal test

Sony maybe dont make the best professional cameras, but youll NEVER find a SLR in a phone, NEVER!
Sony makes very good cameras, and sell more cameras than any manufacturer. Zeiss isnt the best lens maker, and youll find better cameras than sony in nikon, olympus, canon, kodak and panasonic
Here the discussion is about quality in camera phones, and K800 simply beats all camphones at the moment. Now the GSM Arena preview is with final firmware in both handsets, i read a lot of other sites with comparissons, but in all i read about beta condition of the firmware in both phones.

Ok, it seems that the topic changed from cell phones to digital cameras!
At first Sony Ciber shots are really good, but have you ever saw a professional photographer has a Sony Even SLR one? NO! Who the hell is Sony, every pro know that first shot is Nikon, then is Canon. Sony is a new comer in Digital Cameras in comparison with the big names like, Nikon, Canon, Kodak,...!
About the camera in the cell phone, SE takes better pictures that the fact by hese pictures in gsmarena, but other sites said different thing and some other said the same. So there is no use of talking about, they are almost the same, but in photographing SE is better, but still Nokia has a place to improve.
About other stuff they are completely different, they are not even in the same catagory, so there is no use of comparing.
Don't waste your time on this matter, cause most of Nokia fans will never buy SE, and viseverca.

I never say that SE makes the most beautifull phones, on the contrary, i dissapointed with lattest designs like K800. But i disagree with you when you say that 3250 is a classy phone, if it the worst design between all nokias. Is a twistable brick with overall ugliest impression, its a mosnter with a big head

I have to agree with N93 that SE walkmans are for people who like to show off flashy phones with loud speakers and bright orange colors (especially that piece of crap called w550).

I am very pleased with my 3250, with its conservative design (you might wanna call it a brick but its classic), its loudspeaker, its audio performance (once you throw those bundled earphones to the trash can, theyre hopeless) and its camera.

Ive installed lots of themes and apps on it and it hasnt crashed not even once, so i really dont see the mediocrity of the OS... for most people out there is just fine.

I had a k700 and it was very flashy and stuff... but the damn thing broke right after a month of use... wtf is that so called "quality"... is that the sony quality??? I guess not. I like sony products (as long as they arent mobile phones, car audio and pcs).
