Since both r extremely fast n lag free. Plus they both have top notch sound systems, camera, android 4.4 etc.. The things really matters r: Battery n RAM. No one can ignore 3200mah capacity! Its the most important thing in routine life.. More RAM is also always beneficial. And as far as camera is concern in how many occasions we need more than 8mp?? Sony's 8mp superior auto is well enough most of the time.

Appearance is a novelty that doesn't last as long or matter as often add actual usage.
Can't get over the 'Darth Vader' look of the Sony - although I love the company & what they're doing (play station etc) I'd be paranoid about dropping such a beautiful device.

Regarding comparison I've always seen gsmarena's reviews as best but this time they failed in my opinion. Even phoneaarena, samsung's fan puts Z2 ahead of S5, majority of comparisons i've read seems to put Z2 ahead. Anyway, any comparison tell you what the guy that did the comparison thinks, it's not like you'll see everything like him.
If i did comparison S5 vs Z2 it would be like this:
1.Design - no competition here, Z2 looks like a 600euros phone, S5 like a 300euros phone. Ofc S5 is easier to handle, so i see the point of those who claim S5 design is better.
2.Display - Z2 has probably best LCD out there, S5 probably best AMOLED so it's just a matter of tastes. For me LCD is better, showing more natural colors, even if i admit pure blacks on AMOLED is a big plus.
3.Connectivity - TIE. USB3.0 in favour of S5 vs mhl3.0 in favour of Z2
4.Battery - Z2 wins in every department so it doesn't matter what you use your phone for, in the end Z2 will last longer. No doubt a win for Z2.
5.Interface - Sony's UI seems the best for me, close to stock, classy, no bloatware.
6.Performance - It seems that S5 is marginally better in almost all benchmarks, but i don't trust benchmarks, it's real life usage what matters the most. Also Z3 has 3gb RAM so it's more future-proof than S5. I don't know, probably a TIE it's the right answer here.
7.Audio quality - Regarding external speakers there's no doubt Z2 is almost equal with ONE(M8). Stereo speakers are simply better than mono. Regarding headphones, it seems like S5 has a cleaner output, but after i spent 600euros on phone, i need to spend another 600euros for headphones good enough to sense a difference from Z2. Meanwhile without spending anything Z2 gives me noise-cancelling(a feature so important which gsmarena "forgot" to mention). Noise-cancelling built-in gives the edge for Z2 here.
8.Photo quality - It seems this matters so much for a lot of you, even though there are incredible small differences between flagship's camera in last years. Heck, even my Xperia Z works great in daylight! Small differences are made in nightshots! While Z2 gives much better results without flash, S5 has a more powerful flash, so i guess it's a TIE. Btw DxOMark are experts, i think they know better than gsmarena to evaluate a camera, and Z2 is the best camera on a phone there!
9.Video quality - I guess here S5 has a small advantage, but Z2 has a strong point in Steady-Shot.
10. Other apps - S5 has more apps, no doubt. If they are useful or not' it's up to you, for me they are not.
Conclusion: Z2 is the best for me, think for yourself and decide which is better for you, is better than believe someone else. I wish you a wise decision!

For speakers its a different story, but obviously noone who want loud speakers would choose neither Z2 or S5 so that would border to a problem solely for pedantic people, you know those who will write two pages about why their feature phone may be good enough still.

Sony was never good with mobile phone. Sony did made their own brand in the 90s but failed until they joint with Ericsson>>>became Sonyericsson which later paid off Ericsson and began make their own again few years ago

How so. One possibly both have better screen. both have much better camera. Build Material is preference.
They both have water protection. Both have bigger battery and better battery life. Both are much thinner.
On has removable battery. Both have more functions in UI.
Basically all M8 has over either is speakers and headphones. And preference of looks.

The tech in it is still very good. And the pictures are still nice.
However Next one better be an 8-13mp Ultra Pixel camera or they will sink. More like 12UP would suffice.
