BlackBerry Passport review: Ticket to ride

15 October 2014
Canadian manufacturer BlackBerry looks to bring its no-nonsense smartphone approach in a form factor that is…unusual, to say the least. It’s a company that's no stranger lately to being in the red for quarters on end and the Passport is yet another attempt by...

Miroslav, 16 Oct 2014I had it, and returned it. On top of say good bye to single... moreLol, please have you ever thought of productivity? If you haven't get a passport, this phone is crazy, it's mad , it's the best out there, bb got it this time. No body thought they could come out with a touch enable keypad, they jam all of mobile frequencies, just don't say anyyhing else until you have a productive life and mind then you have a passport
Believe this they will come with a stylus very soon to enhance more productiveness

    Go bb
    Go bb
High five and raise you glass to the biggest device

Anonymous, 17 Oct 2014Blackberry fan boys ---yeah... I'm a bb user too but not a ... moreI don't believe you're a true BB10 user...The Note 4 is in no way as productive as the Passport. I have both (yes I've had both from the day of release) and despite all the nice features of the Note 4 the Passport still is the most productive device. All tasks are a lot quicker to perform on the Passport than the Note 4.
The video you show, as you should know reflects what is possible to perform on the Note 4 but not with that precise smoothness and speed - the stylus, though accurate is not accurate enough, not as quick enough and not as precise enough.
This doesn't make the Note 4 a bad device at all, but you can't compare the Note 4 with the Passport, both are good at what they're meant to do, both target different niche market and both have their unique features. After 2 weeks using the Note 4 and Passport, the Passport was the better device for me I'm talking based on actual experience not videos I watch!

        Hah!

Finally someone had to break the monotony from rectangular, 'rotate for a wide screen' way of doing mobile computing to a SQUARE screen!

Don't you think, this form factor makes it way easier to browse websites, do emailing and watch videos without rotating the phone physically?

The problem with 16:9 form factor is that when you have horizontal 'wide' space - the page of the website / email chain, needs to be scrolled too much. While if you try using that pages /email in the normal mode, then screen is tall but not wide enough for a good view!

Therefore, from the practicality point of view, if I were to imagine myself using this device, I would also carry another very long battery life BlackBerry phone along with it.

Reason is simple: Passport for Mobile Computing (Business + Personal), Blackberry Phone for crystal clear phone calls, conference calls and contacts management.

We spend too much battery life of a phone on computing and screen time. So when you have to make that ultra important phone call - you are out of charge.

RIM Blackberry Passport breaks that and for the good!

Whoever comments negatively about the passport or any BB10 device has never really used one for more than 2 weeks. I say 2 weeks because Blackberry 10 devices are different, and as with anything that is different you need some time to get used to it.
I have been in the mobile phone business for over 11 years and I test every single high end handset be it Symbian, Apple, Android, Blackberry etc...and I can confidently say the Blackberry 10 OS is the best OS available. Over 30 customers of mine were converted to Blackberry in one year by offering them a fully money back guarantee if they don't fall in love with their BB10 device within two weeks. Not a single Blackberry 10 device was returned.

The passport is an awesome handset, and whoever says it's ugly or a fail talks and speaks of lack of experience and utter naivety. It is an insane and awesome handset, it is a smart handset, a true innovation...but one thing this phone isn't and that is it isn't a toy...you want a toy go get yourself a Apple, the Passport is a real communication device!

While I'm certainly not a Passport fan, maybe because of its unexpected announcement and unusual form factor (complete with an awkward keyboard design), I do happen to see the potential in this device.
As it turned out, I was right with that, as
