BlackBerry Passport review: Ticket to ride

15 October 2014
Canadian manufacturer BlackBerry looks to bring its no-nonsense smartphone approach in a form factor that is…unusual, to say the least. It’s a company that's no stranger lately to being in the red for quarters on end and the Passport is yet another attempt by...

Iconic is all I can say and I like iconic stuff. As a practical solution for trying to get blackberry reining again I think that day as long surpassed. I think their biggest mistake was when they announced they would be selling the Blackberry commercially and that in my opinion is where it went wrong for them.

Like someone else already said, I have 1mobile android appstore and all the apps that I used work flawlessly. Furthermore, I was able to find 99.9% of the apps that I was looking for, including region specific apps.
That being said, my educated guess is that you never held a BB Passport in your hand, or any other BB OS10 device.

            and regarding apps:
amazon app store is already preloaded to passport.
why did you use a pc to load apps?

also you can use any other Android app store, like 1mobile, etc...

even with the alien fingers you type twice as slow on physical keyboard than on something like swift-key these days...

so all advantages of this phone are gone, only cons remain...

BB, why don't you die finally?

I had it, and returned it. On top of say good bye to single hand use, it's a bad android phone, 80% of android apps run with problems or doesen't run at all. This phone doesent have one single feature where it is great, bether than others phones.

Definitly a good phone despite I am not BB fan. For business is very appropriate becasue the sq screen is more practical than todays screen ratios. To check mail, browse and work with office is premium on it. High security is a very big plus that no one compete with except for windows phone business sector. Supporting the android apps is another good bonus. Simply for business is the most appreciated phone as far. Comparing to iphone , i think it is not even approriate to thinck iphone in business class with all shortage in maney sectors and a bunch of apps or game make no difference for money makers, while the note 4 has great features but the security issue with android is still a problem for bissness.
Great step from BB to come back at least for high socioeconomic people.

The review forgot to mention Blend capability on Passport and future BB devices (once OS is updated to 10.3). In my view Blend is a great feature that allows Blackberry user to work on PC or tablet (android or iOS) without touching the device. So you can reply texts, BBM, em-mails, etc directly form your computer. And is cloud risk free as Blend just mirrors your Blackberry to you computer or tablet (cross-platform not like other where you can do it only on the same platform). Should the reviewer have time, it would be nice to have some comments form him/her on this feature.

I'm not a giant at 5'9" (174cm) and don't have comedy hands. You can use it one handed for browsing the web, calling and playing candy crush (if you like that kind of thing) and even texting and short email with a little stretch. The phone is very non-slippy textured for a reason!obviously this is not the usage pattern for doing proper productivity work with the device but my point is that one handed use is possible. That is unless you have really tiny hands but you'd then run into the same issue with the iPhone 6+ and Note 3/4 etc!
