HTC One M9 review: One up

23 March 2015
One of the hottest bodies in business just got hotter, in time for next season. Touched-up and brushed-down, the HTC One M9 arrives spot on time third year in a row, looking like a celebrity and acting like a pro. There's an engine boost and upgrades...

Nice design, so much better than samsung galaxy s6. This phone is better in the android world. Followed by LG, Sony, Motorola, Alcatel and then samsung.
Never buy samsung, the cpmpany sucks big time.

darkraver, 23 Mar 2015Nope, only z4 will have best battery life. Learn... ;-) If both LG and SONY opt for the 810, they both will have worse battery life than the S6.

The S6 is due for a major firmware udpate and a modem change in the final version, so the S6 will just extend its lead in the final version.

Old habits are hard to break and HTC went back to having bad battery life. Phone Arena's 6 hrs and 25 min result is much closer to Tweaker's at 6 hrs ans 8 min. GSM Arena puts too much emphasis on talk time but their 7 hr browsing which isn't as rigorous as PA proves SOT will never be high. This is very disappointing compared to 2014 flagships especially since it is a 5" FHD while others surpass it like Note 4 and Nexus with larger displays at 2K res. I highly doubt the M9+ with 2K and 0.2" larger will get any better. Perhaps worse.

The iPhone 6 Plus does start looking like a better option and I personally can't stand iOS and iTunes. It needs to be jailbroken to gain some customization we can get from Android out of the box. Since I have been using 4.7" to 5" inch screens, I really want to move onto something 5.5" or above. There is no major difference increasing screen size from 0.2-0.3". If you want to feel a difference, try a phone at least one inch larger than before. After trying Nexus 6 for awhile, I bet 5" screens will start feeling small. Phablets are the way to go esp for viewing content, longer battery life, and faster typing. The folks still wanting to be in the 4.7-5.2 range are just to scared or slow to accept a large screen like that. It has been trending like that in Asia for years now. 5'5" or above.

I bet lots of people reading this review ordered an iphone today. I know i did. Theres no options, so many ad-droid OEMs but not a single viable alternative to iphone, this review clearly show that people been waiting for nothing.

I agree that a Qhd screen is not really necessary especially on smaller screens(looking at you S6) but if we look at the overall picture is like Htc built the M9 to be on par and fight with Xperia Z3 and not the Iphone 6 or Galaxy S6 (the Iphone 6+ and Note 4 are in a different league of their own)and there is the problem... the picture quality is more or less as the sony's flagship, dual speakers, metal vs glass etc, being beat really bad on battery life... so basically the M9 is a 2014 flagship with the proc being throttled down to a point where it doesnt matter if its 810 or 801 the performance is kinda the same.To be honest the most important thing for me about the battery is how it affects on screen time be that web browsing or gaming or messaging or whatever you do while the screen is on and i have to say the M9 looks really bad in this department(M8 10 hours web browsing vs M9 7 hours according to Gsmarena battery tests) i mean i can bet if you go full out with max brightness instagram , facebook , twitter, hangouts , 4G connection on maybe playing a game in the meantime the battery will die around 3 - 3 and a half hours from 100%.

AnonD-80583, 23 Mar 2015s6 uses exynos 7420 its much better actualyI know. But I'd even tolerate a phone with S810 were it not for all the heat/performance issue every single smartphone carrying this chipset has.

darkraver, 23 Mar 2015How does exactly s6's lousy batterylife make it best becaus... morethe battery on the s6 will be improve since they did the test on a pre release firmware and if you check Samsung manage to do 64 h with a QHD screen in a 2550mAh battery in the other hand the m9 only manage 62h on a 1080p screen and with a 2840mAh battery if the s6 had a 1080p screen and the battery the m9 has it will be better then the s5 but if Samsung would have done that of putting a 1080 screen on the s6 everybody would have gone crazy

                          Let me get this straight...
M9 has worse battery life, laughable low-light performance, slighlty worse screen quality, mediocre loudspeaker volume, very hot (pun intended) body and is thicker and less ergonomic than predecessor. Wow, just wow.

I'm mostly baffled by its pathetic battery life. With supposedly more efficient chipset, bigger battery capacity and identical screen it got WORSE results than M8. Even worse than S6 with hungry QHD screen!

I mean really HTC, what's wrong with you?

and people were talking about the battery life on the s6 and look at this phone it has 1080 screen and a bigger battery and still a worst endurance rating than the s6 this just shows why Samsung is the best of the best.

Very disappointed in the M9, no OIS or even digital stabilization, a chipset not much better than the 805, old LCD screen (no AMOLED), poor battery life and a tired design now, those glass front renders where amazing!

Was also disappointed in Samsung S6 to reduce the battery size and remove SD Card support and charge a small fortune for extra space!

From being very excited about getting a shiny new phone I am now very disappointed - I voted with my money and purchased a Samsung S5 with the 805 chip set (GM901f) - should see me through to next year and now very happy.

                                    Maybe next year HTC!
