iPhone 6s vs. Galaxy S6 vs. Xperia Z5: Monster Brawl

23 October, 2015
Some phones just can't be reviewed in a vacuum, the competition between them is so fierce – and their price tags so high – that they have to be compared against each other under a microscope to determine the best one for you. The Apple iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S6 are joined by the Sony Xperia Z5 for this three-way fight.

Anonymous, 31 Oct 2015Z5 = aprox. 800 USD How can you buy a product of 800-10... moreI'll beg to disagree. I think nowadays with SD 610 onwards, in many fones having stock Android lag is non-existent. I'm saying from a perspective of Sony Z1. It's SD 800 is damn good even till this date after 2 yrs. I don't feel like I'll need a fone change even after another 2 yrs. Everything is so-so gud in the fone- fast browsing, emailing, etc. Nothing extraordinary change has happened in these 2 yrs that is worth upgrading!

Yess, around 4-5 yrs ago it was quite different as fones were constantly evolving. But, now things have saturated quite a bit in terms of screen size, Processor(SD800 onwards pretty same), etc. Maybe only thing worth upgrading to will be updated Android versions which though u can get from various online forums like xda, etc.

      weewee, 31 Oct 2015Z5: -> Very expensive -> will become trash after 2 ... moreZ5:
->Not as expensive, but with more expensive technology
->Will still be a top of the line piece of tech in 2 years
->Sleek great design with water proofing.

      iPhone 6s
->Extremely expensive and over priced for the dated tech and pretend/buggy updates and endless app crashes
->Will not always receive updates after 4 years. And the updates it will receive by it's 3rd or even only it's 2nd year will only be partial just to claim it got an update and will still leave it outdated, buggy, and with almost as many app crashes as Android 2.3 had.
->Bulky ugly design with explainable camera bulge that will scratch and dent when you drop. Dies in water.

            -> Very expensive

And I can see he has already replied to you suggesting you look at the results of a recent poll GSMArena ran between these three devices. This is standard fanboy behaviour, they will point survey or test result that place there favourite brand / device at number 1 all day long.

Such test or survey results that favour a competitor though these people with skirt around zealously if not just ignore completely.

Like I said standard (or textbook if you prefer) fanboy antics, you just have to expect it on this forum, it's rife with them.

Xperia rocks, 28 Oct 2015See. Z5 is for mature audience. As a kid I also liked Samsu... moreSaying is for 'a mature audience' is just silly generalising of the highest order.

and whilst I agree that Sony wisely stay as close to 'stock' Android as possible and as such enjoy more fluid performance than some others in the Android space, I don't agree that they hold value any better than any other Android Smartphone.

The Xperia Z3 launched at a price above £500 in the uk in September of last year, it now sells for around the £390 mark. By contrast the HTC One M8 launched in March last year at a similar price to the Z3 (but 6 months prior) and is currently selling for around £450.

Now things are never as simple as this where marketing and pricing are concerned, yet I hope this shows that in general Sony Smartphones hold value neither better or worse than other Android phones.

This the pretty much the conclusion of the article itself anyway, there is no clear winner or looser. and the perfect device would likely be a blend of the three.

However you are always going to get your fanboys who just automatically claim victory across the board for one of the three, and why....because it's from the brand they love, and that it.

Such comments carry no real weight, are backed up only by delusion and at best a very weak (almost layman) understanding of the field of smartphone technology.

                        Z5 is the best

There are basic phone functions that we all seek in a phone, and seemingly the 3 offer that. This is making and receiving calls :)

now comes to the subjectivity of the issue. If you want a good cam along with the basic phone.. then get this.. if you want a good music player, then get that.. :)

so the bottom line people should pick what fulfills their desires, not follow names..if im an apple fan and the new product let me down in my preference, I would go elsewhere. There are cases where you need to compromise your preference due to the investments made in a certain environments. In other words, if I spent considerable amounts of money in purchases for Android, then it would be hard for me to let go of my investments and go for Apple and the other way around holds true.

                          that's my 2 cents!

Ale, 28 Oct 2015Oh and I forgot the screen of the 6S aswell. But know about... moreWell the sales person lied. Especially on a large scale TV there is a noticeable difference.

And actually Amoled tech is starting to outlive LCD tech. And burn in can happen but is not common. And it's foolish when people say that because LCD has many possible things that can go wrong too.

Ios is even in the slightest close to the perfection is claimed to be. And getting more updates does not mean much if most of them on any device except the latest are only partial and barely change anything. More for the sake of claiming they are updated. Never fixes the world lead in app crashes they have.

Yes, the human eye cannot make any difference for all it's above 1080p but there are lot of sheeps who want a "trendy and fancy" phone even it's useless.

This is a price for a good laptop.

Also, I see many people with tablets near their year (6 inch phone????), It is insane. a decent phone has up to 4.9 inch. It's very hard to wear it of you a man. A woman has a purse so it's easier but for a man?!
I wear jeans almost all the time so I would a special designed pocket for a +5 inch phone :)

Present scenario- Vowed never to take a Hangsung. Have moved on to Sony Z5 & trust me it's a cracker of a phone. Sony's OS is bare bones & trust me when I say Sony phones perform like day 1 even after 2-3 yrs runtime.! Even the battery doesn't lose steam one bit. That's why u'll find Sony's handsets to be quite pricey even after 1 yr from launch.

AnonD-442781, 28 Oct 2015I'm inclined to agree, its a shame theyre all moving to 144... moreYeah I'd rather is was 720p for anything up to 5 inches, and 1080p tops for anything 5 inches onwards.

2k is mainly just marketing gimmick with little benefit and much in the way of trade off (battery life and performance etc) and I reckon that 4k screen of the Premium is going to be more of a liability than a boon, Though Sony has stated that actual use of 4k is massively restricted on the device.

And I've always admired Sony for being the only one's (in the Android market) to take the smaller form factor seriously, I wish more company's would follow their example here.

I maintain that the Z5C is a step back in terms of performance compared to the IPhone 6S, but it's still in a league of it's own as far as smaller sized Android devices go.
