Meizu Pro 5 review: The Prodigy

10 November, 2015
Meizu did such a wonderful job with the MX5 that we were pretty certain a Pro edition wasn't needed this year. As it turns out Meizu thought otherwise and is giving us a bigger and faster Meizu Pro 5, with refined design, blazing-fast chipset and better camera sensor.

AnonD-442158, 11 Nov 2015perhaps Sony trying to sell their digital cameras & DSL... moreZ5 series camera still as bad as previous Z series. The DoXMark is the only said great, the rest said bad.

I personally test it and it is really as bad as nearly all review site mention, noise and edge blur.

WoW Meizu, Pro 5 is just a crazy phone! Really good job, AMOLED + Exynos from S6 + metal + DualSIM + 64 ROM/4GB RAM version... madness! Pro 5 is so good, true beast!

My friend use MX5 and i heard many good things about FlymeOS (SmartTouch is amazing feature)... I want Pro 5 in my pocket!

Hi all, here are two pieces of information that may prove useful.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2015It's andorid, so things can be changedThat's true...

My main gripe is the lack of an app drawer, and I guess lack of availability in the west. Other than that its a great phone, have to wonder if Samsung would even let Meizu use the chipset closer to their own flagship release, because it really harm Samsung's sales.

Lead2XL, 11 Nov 2015Great specs but a rather modest battery, a deal breaker for... more95 hours endurance rating is crazy, and is anything but modest. Very few phones have anything remotely close to that.

Physical home button is good, it means more screen estate, but suit yourself.

Great specs but a rather modest battery, a deal breaker for me. I would never buy a Meizu phone anyway, for the same reason I wouldn't buy one from Samsung - hate physical home buttons.

You don't need a pure brightness now just to deal with sunlight. It's like camera megapixels and processor frequency. Brightness is irrelevant nowadays. You'll be more than fine with 200-250. I use just 20-25% of brightness on street on my SGS6, yet I don't like dim displays, so I don't use auto brightness on SGS6, as it makes it very dim in poor lighting.

zeeBomb, 11 Nov 2015The deca core Helio X20 is promising though. I really would... moreIt is but they should have gone with just an oct-core and put 4 A72s on there. It'd be an absolute beast! I think they're going for that with the X30 now though so it goes 2-4-4 instead of 4-4-2 which logically sounds great for low power usage. Going to be an exciting year for SoCs though! X20 and 30 vs 8 series Exynos vs SD 820 vs A9 and later the A10 vs K950 and its possibly successor!

holy cow 420 seconds (7 minutes) of open camera shutter time? not even the LG G4 can do that! with a jury-rigged ND filter stuck to the lens i can make fantastic long exposure shots with this.

The review still needs more in-depth points for the camera.
The article currently failed to mention that it is Hybrid AF as well (Phase Detection + Laser AutoFocus)
We need to know how it would fare against Samsung which uses the same technology and CPU/GPU
