AnonD-100398, 22 Apr 2016Dude! Check out the performance benchmarks its no where nea... moreYou keep telling him to check out the benchmark scores but do you even tried to check out the videos he sent in the links. Hey guess what? We know the benchmark scores are nowhere near the flagship on the market rn but do you even understand what he's been trying to say? BENCHMARK SCORES DOESN'T REALLY SHOW HOW IT PERFORMS IN REAL LIFE. And other thing, because you probably haven't watch the videos, REVIEWS SHOW THAT THE P9 PERFORMS ABOUT THE SAME, IF NOT BETTER, COMPARING TO G5 AND S7. I personally watched a review video last night by Techmagnet in Youtube and it shows that it played Real Racing 3 without a hassle. Search it up in YouTube. Techmagnet is one of many famous reviewers in YouTube so it shouldn't be hard to find it. And before you reply anything, yeah we know the benchmark scores for the P9.

Anonymous, 22 Apr 2016what are you on about? i did not ask you for anything. You were replying to my comment on 20 Apr 2016, and that comment was in reply to a quote, where an Anonymous user accused me of not providing links for my claims.
Maybe you're not the same anonymous user, I can't tell because you're hiding your name, but if you had the courtesy to read through what you're replying to, you should know what I'm on about.

AnonD-100398, 22 Apr 2016Dude! Check out the performance benchmarks its no where nea... moreThe more you post the more it becomes clear that you lacked the fundamental ability to understand what other have repeatedly explained here.
Sadly this is exactly why most phone and SoC manufacturers prioritize on benchmark performance rather than real-life performance. Most of the customers are people like you, they will never be able to grasp the idea that most smartphone benchmarks nowadays DOES NOT accurately reflect real-life performances, in games or otherwise.

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2016you may trust ony the Geekbench, you can run it in s7, b... moreEven repeated tests like you suggested does not show you the whole picture of sustained performance (although it may be more revealing than a single test). As I have explained earlier, these benchmarks tend to only stress either the CPU or the GPU but never both at the same time, and therefore they do not reflect true system load during intensive gaming (which is the single most common situation for the average user to stress their phone SoCs for a prolonged period of time).

AnonD-100398, 21 Apr 2016yeh man p9 is a great phone with premium design and camera ... moreAre you quoting the wrong person? Because from the evidences I provided the P9 was anything but a performance let down. I see you keep making this baseless claim without giving any solid proof. Why don't you stop repeating the same sentence and tell us exactly on which apps or games that the P9's performance was "a huge let down" compared to other flagship phones?

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2016After reading the thread I doubt what you provide because i... moreYou asked for links, so I gave you links. I'm telling you that multiple independent sources including reviewers and user reports has confirmed the same thing, and I even backed my claims with video evidence which anyone should be able to understand without knowing Chinese.
Sure, you can continue to believe that real gaming performance on the Kirin 95x is as behind as the benchmark suggests, and that all those evidences I provide were fake or fabricated because they're not from places you're familiar with. Let me tell you one thing though, just because you can't read technical analyses in other languages doesn't mean that they must be unreliable. I did not reach the conclusions I made because one unknown Chinese blogger said so, I made those conclusions after reviewing evidences and test-data provided by multiple sources and also from my own experience using the Kirin 950. Of course, if you can't read Chinese you may have to take my word for it, and you may well choose not to. I don't really mind what you believe, I just want to advise anyone who's interested in comparing these things to keep an open and critical mind about actual performance vs benchmarks and raw specs. At least keep an open mind before you could find any counter-evidence from Tom's or anandtech or whatever. In fact if you did read anandtech you'd know their comment on the Kirin 950: "the thermal performance of the Mate 8 is simply exemplary as thanks to the low power consumption of the new Kirin 950 the device is able to enjoy very high sustained performance figures", so what I said shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

Huawei is using mp4 rather than mp12 but it's clocked at 900mhz whereas 8890 is clocked at 650mhz. Huawei gaming performance seems better if you watch youtube videos of mate8 vs s7 edge. (And Note 5 is far far behind from mate 8. It's out of equation actually )

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2016After reading the thread I doubt what you provide because i... moreyou may trust ony the Geekbench, you can run it in s7, but if you run it for more times continously and for long time( eg.20 minutes),you will find the truth, the last time Geekbench score may drop distinctly compared to the first one. in the same way ,you run Geekbench in P9, the score may only drop slightly. then you will find P9' score is high than S7。 that tell you the difference between peak perfermance and sustain perfermance.

The overall performance is actually on par if you look at various speed comparison videos available on youtube (mostly on Mate 8 but I'm sure those with P9 will come up soon). It will surprise you with its gaming and game loading performance where most people believe it will be shit (because of 880MP4 and emmc5.1). My post below explained it in detail.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2016Recent tests? What recent tests? Is it too much to ask to... moreOf course I can provide links, got video evidence too. But can you read Chinese? If you insist, here they are:
Evidence 1 comparing Mi5 (Snapdragon 820) and Mate 8 (Kirin 950), Mi 5 has vastly superior GPU benchmark scores but falls behind Mate 8 in actual gameplay. Game used are NBA2k16, Implosion, and Riptide GP2.

Evidence 2 and 3 comparing Galaxy S7Edge (Korean version, Exynos 8890), Mi5, and Mate 8. Again the Exynos 8890 showed very unstable framerates and falls behind the Mate 8 in various games (NBA2K15/NBA2K16/Riptide GP2/Real Racing3). Analysis showed that the 8890's CPU cores heat up too fast, forcing both the CPU and GPU cores to significantly underclock during sustained high-load situation. The reason it managed to get very high scores in benchmark is because benchmark only stresses the CPU or the GPU at one time (giving it more "heat quota" to run at full speed), but never stress both at the same time. They also only run for a short amount of time. In actual games the play time is much longer, and more importantly, both the GPU and CPU are stressed at the same time. Under this situation the "heat quota" of the 8890 depleted very quickly. The resulting throttling caused it to perform worse than a supposedly "lower-spec" SoC (the Kirin 950).

Also, this was not due to the difference in screen resolution between Mate 8 and the other 2 phones. The comparisons are made with normalized resolution. (Fun fact: many games don't actually run at 2K even if you play it on a phone with 2K screen, the list include NBA2k15, NBA2k16, and implosion)
Is that enough to show you how over-hyped the 820 and 8890 are spec-wise? And how ridiculous people whine about Huawei's GPU being shit just because it is 880MP4 not 880MP12? It is time to stop these marketing bullshit which 99% of the so called prosumers and reviewers are buying into (just like the megapixel war of cameras in the past). They are simply too lazy to analyze real-life gameplay performance. After all, it is so much easier to just run 3Dmark and a few other benchmarks, copy down the scores, and then call it a "performance review".
I'm sure many people still have doubts about the credibility of these analyses because it conflicts with their deep-rooted beliefs. Did the reviewer took Huawei's money and made stuff up? You may also think that I should not bring up Mate 8 when we're talking about P9 (although the P9's chip is basically the Mate 8's chip with a moderately higher clock). So let me present you evidence 4, a video of the P9 (3GB entry-level model) and S7Edge (Snapdragon 820 with 4GB ram) loading apps and running games side-by-side, done by a difference reviewer:
http://www.bilibili.com/video/av4415432/
You can see the P9 getting 15% higher overall framerate then the S7 edge in the highly demanding NBA2k16 with all high settings. You can also see when the game is running S7Edge throttled the SoC to significantly lower frequencies than the P9, causing the low performance.
By the way both are retail version phones, P9 have been available for everyone to buy in China since a few days ago. Like I explained earlier, both games also ran at the same resolution. So "review sample may be better/worse than retail phones" or "Huawei took advantage of its lower resolution" were not valid excuses. The fact is simply that people have been fooled by Qualcomm and Sammy's benchmark oriented design and spec-hyping. Yes they are still powerful chips and yes they can still run all these games at high settings with (mostly) playable framerates. But to all those who believe that getting a 820 or 8890 phone will give you so much (if at all) better graphics performance/gaming experience than the Kirin 95x, I'm sorry to burst your bubble.
