Those who do, i.e. those performances phones from LG, will win in the long run. This innovation made by G5, is the winner. Samsung is topped with S7 which is just a simple phone and trivial, otherwise nothing.

S7: better headphone quality than the B&O module? What an utter joke. Even using poor headphones like he does here, the difference should be obvious. This whole review loses all credence. Volume doesn't mean quality and hi-res requires quality headphones. Stupid comparison. Samsung are way behind everyone else in this respect yet everyone listens to music on their phones and no one seems to care or notice. Don't get it.

This is the only review that says the G5's camera is better than the S7's. What's more, last year when gsmarena themselves compared the G4 against the S6, the S6 won some categories that the S7 lost, like video quality, which doesn't make sense since the G4 and G5 have the same cameras and the S7 has a better camera than the S6!
I wouldn't pay much attention to this comparison as a result since their findings are at odds with everyone, including their own tests of the previous generation of each phone.

AnonD-308243, 29 Apr 2016careful man once u go Samsung there is no turning back, bee... morecan't say i agree at all, sorry.
I had the S4 exynos and hated it. It felt much like the S3, cheap.
While I will agree they have the better chips, the build sucks compared to most others on the market. The Edge versions are better but still not close to the HTC or Huawei (I'm referring to build not the overall package before anyone comments)

Hello, SONY fan here!
First of all I wanted to congratulate both companies for producing such quality phones, and to the lucky owners of both. I liked G5's AoD more simply because it's dimmer and eats less power. Samsung I believe will soon launch software update to allow third party notifications.
G5's main attractions: Modularity (includes removable battery). Dim AoD. Camera. Full Metal. Virtual On-screen NAVBAR that is always on whenever the screen is on (my SONY devices will hide that NAVBAR when displaying Pictures/Videos). IR Blaster. Quick Charge 3.0
S7's main attractions: IP68 waterproof & dustproof certification. Higher Battery Rating in GSMA. Generally the better looking.
Other things to note: A Sony fan as stated above, I prefer my fingerprint scanner on the SIDE, but if I had to choose between LG's or SAMSUNG's offering on this matter, LG's rear mounted scanner is what I pick. Screen resolution too, no one wins since both are QHD/2160P, since I prefer to sacrifice resolution in return for battery life. I think AMOLED displays does better at conserving battery compared to LCD, especially in sky-high resolutions, as demonstrated by SAMSUNG. But VR is the future, and that feature may need the high resolution more than I need my charge... Especially with SAMSUNG's partnership with this company called "OCULUS", may be the deciding factor for those who like VR, this early in 2016. But the VR content itself are not very readily available at the moment, prices-wise and worldwide availability-wise. My hunt for VR stuff will have to start next year, if not several years ahead in the future.
Conclusion: Based on above selfishly incomplete comparison of attractive features, G5 wins.
Now what does SONY have against these two? My best bet is the Z3 family (5.2" Z3, 4.7" Z3C, and 8.0" Z3TC) for their flagship class hardware, IP certifications, and the amazing prices these older generation offer, if any still exist on any market today, that is. As for the latest widely marketed SONY marvel, Z5 Premium, I regard it as "the weird one". That is not a phone for everyone. Its strengths are for those who need it, and Sony delivers, with a few things to note. If I have cash to burn, I too prefers one from the Z line for my next phone. My attachments are also influenced by the VIRTUAL ON-SCREEN NAVBAR (like LG), and certain SONY apps (Xperia Album, and the entire range of "Small Apps For Sony Xperia").
Note: This entire selfish post of mine may seem out of place, because most other posts are either attacking or defending one of the two on the review. I positioned myself to state my own views of the two products, and a few more statements as a fan of a company that once pose a bigger threat to both of these two. I don't remember myself ever as aggressively attacking others as most of you here. PEACE!

RC255, 29 Apr 2016No other way to put it - Everyone has their preferences. T... moreI thought the g5 was more expensive than the s7. ( certainly on amazon ) I think you should speak for yourself when you say ' most prefer to carry a spare battery'. If that was true samsung/ apple would not be leading the smartphone game.

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2016So you buy a phone and carry a spear battery with you? Wher... moreNo that's not how it works at all.
You keep the charger at home, so you swap the battery when back home. You only charge one battery at a time (the one you're not using) and you have instant recharge when back home.
Also If you don't want to carry a spare (it's easy to carry one in a wallet but I digress) , yet want the greater capacity on the go you can also buy a bigger battery to have as your main one.
Like I said no matter how you look at it, sealed batteries are lose lose. A review should show those nuanced point, in fact that's the point of reviewers to begin with, to show to users what the devices can really do.
For example you couldn't think the charge at home routine, a reviewer could show that finer point, but they didn't, in fact they almost completely ignored the fact that LG G5 has a swappable battery.

I find the camera test incomplete.
If you use a tripod and take pictures to buildings, trees, ... of course the LG will win: It has more mega pixels and the white balance (colors) is the most accurate I saw on any phone --> it's even better than on many DSLR cameras.
BUT ...
If you take pictures to moving objects (like a person, car, from a car, ...) the S7 wins.
I own the S7 and G4 (same camera as G5) --> I can't tell which is better. It depends on the situation.
S7 is very very fast. I find myself taking a lot more pictures because from the moment I open the phone 'till I take the picture it takes 1 maximum 2 seconds. The instant focus does help a lot, the bigger aperture = lower exposure times. Basically I can't take a picture of my kid inside the house (medium light) with the G4 because it's always blurry while with the S7 it looks great.
Low light pictures --> If you use a tripod the G4 / G5 picture will look better. It has a great manual mode with 30s exposure time. If you hold the phone in your hand ... there is no contest: S7 wins by a mile.
The most important thing on a camera is to have it with you. The second most important thing is to have a camera that "delivers" so you don't miss the moment and you get a good picture.
My conclusion: I love the LG software in manual mode, I know how to make the manual settings as I used DSLR cameras for years, the LG white balance (colors) are more accurate, the resolution is bigger BUT I take better pictures with the S7 just because it is faster and I never miss the moment.

Thank you so much gsmarena for the review... without being biased to both brands my opinion is LG is a bit unstable with those magic slots etc, and samsung definitely win with hardware... but thanks to your review I can see much clearer now! Great job
