LG G5 vs Samsung Galaxy S7: A rebel and a stunner

29 April, 2016
This is a battle of innovation versus refinement. LG let the designers off the leash and they went wild on the LG G5. Samsung brought in the perfectionists to polish the Galaxy S7.

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2016I never really understood how a sealed phone is pronounced ... moreSo you buy a phone and carry a spear battery with you? Where do you keep it?
I for example have the phone + wallet + car key. I don't want to carry another battery + I don't want to charge 2 different batteries during the night.

I own the S7 edge and I don't even use the fast charging (this function is deactivated) --> I just charge the phone during the night and it will last a whole day whatever I do. The battery can work for about 5-6 hours "Screen time on". The LG lasts about 2-3 hours "screen time on".

I believe you are quite wrong and definitely you never owned a phone with a good battery.

AnonD-531649, 29 Apr 2016No.... I completely disagree with your review in the camera... moreBut all i see is G5 camera produce better images and videos. And while in benchmark the exynos was a little better, in real life however the difference was not felt. So i disagree with your opinion.

Its a far better explanation than blaming it on some random software thing. The main difference was the screen, so the thing to blame is the screen. Unless you have tangible evidence of anything else that was even different that could affect battery life.

No.... I completely disagree with your review in the camera aspect. S7's cam is better than G5 . Focus and lowlight performance is just amazing in S7. G5 had wide angle camera, apart from that it couldn't even come near to galaxy S7. The colours are vibrant in S7. S7 4k video looks quite sharper and coming to real life performance exynos8890 chip is better than SD820. exynos does better in multitasking.

Camera resolution aside, battery endurance of G5 is bad. Very bad.

What a hard fought fight. Gotta give it to Sammy for the display and LG for the cameras. For me it's G5 55 vs S7 45. But everyone has their own preference. Boyb devices are just too good. Good work gsm.

I never really understood how a sealed phone is pronounced a winner.

Fast charge? It takes 90 minutes to charge a "fast charge" phone , while it's 90 seconds to swap a battery.

                          So it's not that.

Overall capacity? You can either carry a spare to double your overall capacity if your phone supports battery replacement. Or if you don't like carrying a spare, you can buy a battery of greater capacity for your phone.

                          So it's not that either.

                          Longevity of battery?

All batteries lose charge. But it's $20 to buy a new one when after 2 years of use it has lost some of its full charge. But if it's sealed battery, it's at least $60 all the while damaging the structural integrity of the phone.

No matter how you look at it, swappable batteries win, in fact blow out sealed ones. Now how come gsmarena always praises them so much, I don't know. A reviewer should review Pros and Cons, if gsmarena doesn't do so what's the good to a review?

I have similar grudges about performance measuring. Artificial benchmarks tell very little about phone performance. Phones rarely need peak performance (what benchmarks measure), IO performance , Ram size (caching) and OS overhead matter more.

Device a test to measure those, measuring peak performance is so inappropriate for mobile devices, they should only play a very small role in judging the performance of a mobile device (if at all). It's like measuring a car by its max speed, while clearly things like grip, steering and acceleration matter more...

I hope GSM ARENA will take in account those criticisms and become more modern in mobile reviewing, you already lose viewers to other sites that have started measuring phones in more appropriate manners.

The s7 camera is indisputably better for the average camera enthusiast. Its only once you go beyond that and start zooming in and looking for finer details does it seem weaker. And with the better autofocus it would be easier to use.

The s7 is the definitive phone for the average consumer. The modular of the g5 looks fairly useless even for those its aimed at but removable battery may be nice for some, and some people would prefer the camera on the g5. Pretty much everything else is better on the s7
