LG V20 review: Twice as bright

23 September 2016
If the LG V20 was a superhero - and we're not convinced that it's not - its superpower would be to have two of everything (or more!). Two screens, two cameras... twice!, four DACs, two apps on the screen, the list goes on and on.

LG used to have the best screen, best camera, best battery and best design and build quality in their flagship. Since the inexplicable LG G4 they lost everything. Dim and always greenish screen, small battery and poor battery life, crap design and crappy build quality. The camera is still among the best but not that consistent as other top flagship cameras, and their video stability is always crap. Only one thing we could say to LG now is good-bye.

In intro FM radio is mentioned. In review it is not. Is it lacking in preproduction unit, or is it completly removed?

After reading the review, I am leaning towards Note7..

Note7 v V20 v iPhone 7 Plus, Note7 wins in most key areas over both LG and Apple. Design, cameras, display, and battery life. V20 doesn't truly excel in an important feature to me except having a removable battery with fairly average battery life and audio quality/recording (externally and internally). The iPhone 7+ killer feature is the 2x optical zoom.

If we are going to pay top dollar for these overpriced flagships, we might as well aim for the best in several areas. The Note7 also received a software update that smoothed out the UI. Imagine when it receives Nougat. Samsung simply has better battery optimization than LG right now. And the iPhone 7 Plus across all reviews has inferior cameras against an S7!

          Design - Note7 > V20 (silver) > iPhone 7+ (matte black)
          Cameras - Note7 > V20 = iPhone 7+
          Display - Note7 > iPhone 7+ > V20
          Battery Life - Note7 > iPhone 7+ > V20

LG V20 finishes in last place in two key areas while also lacking water-resistance. I saw a battery test comparison between Note7 v iPhone 7+, and Note still won and this was with the less efficient Snapdragon 820. Recall or not, Exynos or Snapdragon, the Note7 still looks to be the best smartphone of 2016.

As i said from the unset 3200mah is no battery as far as Lg is concerned but the focus was audio quality and removable battery. So who wants to buy the v20 now. And from experience with lg phones 63h endurance is very optimistic it will barely give you 11hours with medium to heavy use and even less if you use data alot.
So what is the use of a multimedia phone if the battery is that bad.
My advice except you are an audiophile don't buy the v20 get the note 7
From my lg g3 endurance 63h charging 2 times a day.

I was a Samsung fan until the S6 when they decided against a removable battery. Thus, went to LG G5 six months ago and have not looked back -- the G5 is a great phone. Apple and Samsung built-in planned obsolescence for their phones to force you to buy new phones every year since batteries deteriorate over time and in one year you either need a new battery or new phone -- it is just physics. Batteries are cheaper and the luxury of never worrying about how to charge your phone when you are out of the house is just not repeated on any other great phone. Hats off to LG for the G5 and V20. Now, just add waterproofing and your phones will be perfect!

Hello_it's_me, 23 Sep 2016Never ever buy phone with "back, main" buttons on the screen. From your comment i take it you have never used Lg phones because that is the best feature. Having a notification, back, home, menu and qslide button on the screen makes them user friendly. Then couple that with double tab to sleep and wake. Tell me which other OEM can match that or offer that level of customization for capacitive buttons.
Yeah i can see you saying screen estate used up. Not a big deal.

Well yes u can buy extra battery pack but then u would have to worry all the time about the charge of that pack and whether or not u forgot to charge it, plus people shouldn't be buying mobiles thinking about an extra battery pack that's just stupid really and adds to the problem here , it's an amazing mobile just like the v10 buy they had to mess up the battery or they wouldn't be LG.

Why do people complain about the battery life ?! You get 300 mAh less capacity compared to Note7, but you get REMOVABLE BATTERY. The camera and audio is decent and according to the benchmarks is one of the fastest android smartphones up to date. Very durable body with military materials. One of the best phones in the market without any doubt. LG really nailed it with this.

Damn that battery with Nougat isn't good. 63 for V20, 60 for G5 and 56 with V10...although it has the most for any G phone this year it's still lacking in phablet territory. I think the switch to OLED is necessary.
