LG V20 review: Twice as bright

23 September 2016
If the LG V20 was a superhero - and we're not convinced that it's not - its superpower would be to have two of everything (or more!). Two screens, two cameras... twice!, four DACs, two apps on the screen, the list goes on and on.

OSasmatteroffact, 23 Sep 2016I recall one of the LG phone the G Flex has a rating of 97h... moreThanks mate, that's true..some were good. I just dropped the word "lately" by mistake.

I noticed that GSMARENA changed the way of battery test quite recently and now it fixes brightness of the screen on 200nit instead of setting each phone "50% brightness".
So I re-checked my old G3's (sh**ty battery life) battery test result and found it rated mere 63h back then, but its 50% brightness was only 109nit, which means V20's score of 63h with 200nit could be much better than my G3, I reckon(hope).
That's good to know, I feel a bit better now..

AnonD-506278, 23 Sep 2016I saw you pick Axon 7 as an alternative. So when will GSMar... moreIts North America exclusive :( So they are fair and give a choise to their nortamerican readers...
We on the old continent will have to wait and hope... Same will be fir the V20

I see people complaining about battery life but please consider this. Get a spare battery for a couple of bucks and that endurance rating goes to 126h. Also someone already mentioned that GSMA changed brightness for their testing to 200cd/m^2. That is 33% brighter than old method.

I think I should give uo hi-fi and removable battery and save 200$ by buying pixel! I'm worried pixel might not drive my headphones

After owning the LG G4,and the company NOT doing a recall on those phones due to faulty motherboards and going thru 3 of them, i'm extremely apprehensive about buying another LG mobile product,I bought the G4 because it was one of the few phones that offered a removable battery which was a big deal with me as well as expandable memory.......but what's the point in having those features if your phone is a "lemon" and it spends more time getting replaced and repaired than you get to use it. I applaud Samsung for bringing attention to the battery issue however LG never formally addressed the boot looping issue publicly other than to find out about it on the Internet and that caused me to lose a lot of data......it seems to have been a widespread problem considering it took almost 5 weeks to get my phone repaired because the motherboards were on backorder.......... This new phone might be great on paper however I'll wait until it's been out for a while before I consider purchasing it if my Note 7 doesn't work out

i bet all decision makers at LG are old and dnt use their phones much , hence they dnt care about battery life .

It looks like a very sold phone, aside from one if not the most important thing: battery life. I really like the always-on screen, also on the G5, it is light years better than the S7/Edge/Note 7 which do not display "real" notifications, only missed calls and missed SMS messages (lame and stupid on Samsung's part).

However, the battery life issue is a deal breaker.

that second screen looks amazing now and might be really helpfull
but the two things i want to point out the most are the battery life and the heat up problem, now obviously the battery life can be subjective to the usage and as long as it lasts a full day it's ok (in my opinion) but the rating might down a few customers, same with the heat up, they mention it quickly heats up and that's a big issue for some ppl (like myself) i really hope it doesn't overheat.
still looking great device and LG users will be happy just wanted to point those two things :D

wow... great phone, i hope lg packed it with extra battery kit

60 hours endurance rating is so.. so.. but u can change it with spare battery instantly.. this is the lost of s and note series nowadays

                  bye sammy!

                    I look at the V20 very positively. However;
Reading the 32bit Quad DAC figures, I was expecting a dynamic range of around 99dB. What I see concerning THD & IMD is also normal figures. I haven't seen any exceptional figures like that of Huawei Mate 8 (which I skipped just due to having unremoveable battery and low camera performance). Signal output level is around 0.8V which is good.
Probably we need to wait for an audiophile magazine to test the V20.
I hope it would be sold at an acceptable price level (concerning S7 Edge and G5 are very cheap right now). I will wait for a couple of months anyway.

Lg just doesn't care about battery. South Korea needs to march against this nonsense.

This might be a stupid question?
Where is the power button? Is it embedded with the fingerprint sensor?

Another phone from LG with low quality screen (in comparison with others), bad battery backup and average performance, well at least camera is amazing.

"The LG V20 delivered seriously impressive audio output when connected to an active external amplifier. It was among the loudest devices we've seen and there were no weak points to its performance whatsoever."

This device is a portable multimedia player it's one the best ever smartphone that comes with seriously impressive audio output since Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Meizu MX4 Pro and Apple iPhone 5s. Yes the list only a few
