Our camera shootout: iPhone 7 vs. Galaxy S7 vs. Xperia XZ vs. LG G5

17 October 2016
Team Fall in the red corner versus Team Spring in the blue. Okay, not really - it's actually every phone for itself, but the newly-launched contenders from Sony and Apple take on the established players from Samsung and LG that have been around for some six months.

Anonymous, 20 Oct 2016I was thinking the same. Maybe in a future testHope so.
Next shootout hopefully would feature more phones, this time the plus-sized ones.
S7 Edge (sorry Note 7), LG V20, Moto Z Force, Pixel XL, iPhone 7 Plus.

No large version of HTC 10 though, so Pixel XL with its similar sensor would take up the gauntlet instead.

If possible, upcoming Xiaomi Mi Note 2?

You should have included Lumia 950 xl and Xiaomi Mi5. They both have great camera capabilities. Yes you cannot buy them on all markets but they are available online and have many users in fact more than Xperia and G5 combined.

Many people praised Lumia as king of cameraphone because of pureview. But it was years ago. Other manufacturer has done many reseach since that time. Android central review stated most of tested device are great, the different is only by hair. Always saying that Lumia is the best is overrated..

Hello GSMarena Team, why you have not included Huawei P9 and zenfone 3?? Those might be strong competitors to these four. Do a detailed shootout with all the top class models and not with only more renowned companies.

Bought the LG G5 3 months ago. Still very happy about it, no complains whatsoever, this is my first LG phone and now I believe that this is one of the best phones ever!

for me, the best camera is one that represents the reality or the scenario better. You seldom crop pictures 100 percent and see the details and noise so it doesnt really matter. Excellent exposure and contrast and white balance are what matters most nowadays in today's flagship, since you can only appreciate the noise and detail when you zoomed in 100percent which you seldom do. Today's flagships can take decent or acceptable details and noise when zoomed-out and zoomed-in.

Wish it had included at least two more phones: HTC 10 and Moto Z Force.
                                    Why?
HTC 10 camera would represent the big-pixel-size club with its 1.55nm pixel size, coupled with OIS and fast F/1.8 aperture.
Moto Z Force would represent the high-megapixel-number along with Xperia XZ, at the same time showing Sony how to do processing.

                                    Anyway, good shootout there.

Based on the results, and from my own vote, seems like G5 is a winner. But if I have to choose which phone would I bring as camera replacement when I'm on a trip, probably would go with S7 / S7 Edge or iPhone 7 / 7 Plus. The G5 battery is the problem.. And I don't usually like carrying extra battery or external power pack. Would not even look at the XZ. Sony is currently in the funk. I'm still using Z3 Compact, mainly because of the awesome battery life and small form factor. Other than that, nothing special about this phone including the camera.
