Huawei Mate 9 review: Mighty Mate

14 November 2016
With Huawei announcing the Mate 9, the manufacturer has been following the well-established game plan of releasing a 'mainstream' pocketable flagship in the spring, only to slap us with the phablet come fall time, thus staying relevant throughout the year. In this case, the Huawei Mate 9 we now have in our hands, comes 7 months after the P9.

Bu... moreYou don't see that this phone has a superior hardware with a superior processor and a superior gpu? It consumes more battery even being of 16nm. It has 4 cores Cortex A73 and a octo core gpu Mali-G71..

The G-71 is a good GPU.
but as usual Huawei puts in very few cores for the GPU thereby making the overall graphic performance mediocre.

I am a fan of big phones. The Mate 9 could have been a killer phone if Huawei had given it a QHD IPS or Amoled screen similar to Nexus 6P which was produced by Huawei. I was previously a Mate 7 owner and nothing has changed in this respect. A disappointment!
Also the performance of the camera in low light conditions compared to other flagship phones like Galaxy S7 edge for example does not entirely convince me. Almost all flagship phones nowadays make brilliant photos during the day but as we also take lots of photos indoors, this is an important factor. Well, if you can live with that, then it is of course a great phone.

The story of all those Chinese copycat UI skins is simple:

                          - Meizu copied iOS in the Windows CE era, with mixed result.
                          - MIUI copied iOS in the Android 2.x era, and succeeded.
                          - Everybody starts to copy MIUI and iOS, and Chinese users loved it.
(with blessings of the Great Fire Wall, Google services, stock Android, and pretty much every Android skin of international brands win little love from Chinese customers)
                          - Now everybody is copying each other and iOS, a great melting pot.

--- An Android skin developer in China.

                            Which is nothing special.
Huge amount of MIUI interface is complete copy of other brands .
No brands has themes named after other brands like xperia theme, ios theme, galaxy theme .
But its all available in official MIUI theme store .
Even you will find EMUI themes there .
MIUI is junk with no uniqueness. Only a house of copied elements.

Just search "Hugo Bara MIUI" on youtube, the whole "emotion" thing is Hugo's idea. EMUI1 came out in 2013 and basically it looked like a lot of print screens from MIUI right up until EMUI4. EMUI5 is the most different but still has print screens in many elements. Don't be fooled buy Superman showing off the Leica lenses. Superman is just a normal guy and the Leica deal is just to carry the Leica logo while thy pass off Chinese lenses. Beneath all this advertising is just an average phone at extraordinary prices.

I was expecting a triple digit battery life rating.

Oh well, just goes to show in general Chinese phones are still one step behind the big players.

Waiting for the Mi Note 2 review to prove me wrong...

what is it with the battery testing procedure GSMArena?
                                        was the phone tested differently??

now it is 82h endurance, if I use my phone with automatic brightness, will this be different?

honestly, I was looking for 102h endurance rating and maybe more.. I don't care about calls, all I want: web browsing and video playback!!!

I hope my waiting for this phone does not go to waste. But I need an explanation for this low rating

                                        Thanks
