Huawei P10 review: The Mini-Mate

10 March 2017
The newly announced P10 builds on everything the P9 introduced last year - the design is even more striking, the already top-notch screen is even better, what used be a balanced performance is now flagship grade, and finally, the Dual Camera system, produced in collaboration with Leica, is now better and allows for lossless zoom like on the Mate9.

AnonD-145316, 13 Mar 2017Have you updated to latest software yet??? Mate 9 lowlight... moreYup, updated already to .158 firmware...Yes, the low light improved from previous version, but not that much. Focus a bit blurry and shaken, noise still present but have been reduced a bit. Trust me, S7 and Iphone 7 still make the best low light picture out there.

Its not like Samsung and LG created a bezel less phone on a 5 inch screen. They both are instead phablet size screens and LG G6 with a 78.6% screen to body ratio is only a tiny bit ahead of Mate 9 with a 77.5% ratio.

I was seriously considering this phone to replace my s7, however, 2 reviewers have confirmed that there is no oleophobic coating on the screen if you remove the factory screen protector. This may only applicable to review devices but until Huawei or someone confirms it, I will wait for s8.

Maybe someone in GSMArena can find out?

Sometimes I fail to understand how a gownup person can choose his/her daily driver smartphone based only on camera performance??!! Most flagship cameras are on per with each other and most average users will just be fine with the cameras. Difference between the flagship cameras is so minimal now days, so it boils down which Phone is an All rounder smartphone. And this is the point where I respect the mighty Mate 9! Because it's an All rounder smartphone.

Christian, 12 Mar 2017Removing the fingerprint sensor from the back and introduci... morei can tell you why because for whatever reason, Chinese consumers hate rear fingerprint sensor and they have been 'shouting' at Huawei to get rid off the rear sensor.

P10 rear camera basically the same as Mate 9. I own Mate 9, and no, their camera cannot beat iphone 7 & S7 edge in low light photography. Even my old Xperia Z1 produce better low light picture (after root and install mod), but iphone 7 and S7 are more superior. In daylight, pictures great but seems underexposed, details are outstanding, even u zoom in, very nice. The Kirin 960 is very very powerful, doesn't slow down my Mate 9 at all no matter how many apps running. Aside note, can't wait to see Xperia XZ Premium camera capability, seems promising.

If price right, the p10 could be a success. In Canada, there is the high end and nothing below worth considering. Huawei can fill the need for a upper midrange.

Color 20mp are nothing like monochrome 20mp. It's more like 12mp upscale, wonder why its 20mp. Shame I don't shoot in monochrome. Maybe they should add 3rd camera for daylight shots, details in stills and 4K are missing a lot these days.

Interesting phone, I was expecting a crap Chinese phone like usually and to some extend it's gimmicky with that front "button" and the software. But the SOC is great, it's at least as good as Snapdragon 821 on a 1080p screen...and the camera amazed me. The day light shots are good indeed, but nothing special in comparison with Pixel and the monochrome mode is simply good for nothing most of the times. But in low light it's an incredible camera, because the shoots look good, the tripod takes things to near DSLR level...and the monochrome camera looks dazzling to say the least, night shoots are for it, the amount of detail, the depth of the black and the pure whites make some timeless pictures... To top it off it has bokeh and lossless zoom.

This phone is absolutely great. I have no idea what people are talking and crying about. It has a great design. Sure, it might not look as good as the P9 (which I have, by the way; and love it!), but it still has a very good-looking design, dated specifications, a great camera (A score of 87 on DxOMark) and a very decent price tag.

Quit whining, appreciate the phone, try it out and buy it. Also, do not complain before you even try the phone. It's a pathetic thing to do. This phone is great, and it is definitely better than the G6 with the ugly back design and outdated processor.

Oh, and also - the bezels are NOT that bad at all. Quit whining about that, as well. Jeez.

Now how can same people say that xperia bezels are huge , and at the same time P10 bezels thin ? I call that unfair double standards !
