Nokia 8 review: Connecting the dots

25 August 2017
This is it then. The long-awaited Finnish flagship that goes all in against the phones that rule today. The Finnish cameraphone returning to claim the prize that was once its birthright. Everybody bow and make way?

Although I use an 📱 7plus , but this device is awesome. It's much better than Samsung. I still have a note5 but with the recent Nougat update the UI has become extremely plain and boring. It feels slow at times.

The Galaxies age terribly based on software thanks to the heavy skin. These haters really don't know what they are talking about or lack phone history. I remember how great Nokia used to be and how crappy Samsung used to be and at times still is. The North remembers.

I just bought a Nokia Lumia 830...210$...I dont need the Nokia 8..I'm sure the 830 will take better photos and will have better phone performing capabilities then the Nokia 8.

They also know that their crappy Galaxies are not up to par with nokia 8 in terms of built quality. After few months their crappy Galaxies can't compete with nokia 8 performance wise. That's why they are trying to defend their brand and trying to discourage people from purchasing Nokia 8.

Thank you for the well done review, as always, gsmarena!
That being said, I do have some doubts about the Nokia 8 camera being as capable as the venerable N8 or 808. The pixel pitch is just too small and some reviews from across the web suggest that the Nokia 8 pictures apparently may not benefit from combining the two sensor outputs.

                    Hi!

Regarding photo quality, are you able to check it after Google Photos app decrease its size, to backup (no limit option).

I think it would be interesting, as many people delete original and rely on Google service. At least I am doing so...

                    What do you think?

                    Kind regards,

Haters gonna hate. Don't listen to them. This Nokia 8 probably won't sell like an iPhone or Galaxy. The days of the once mighty Nokia could be behind them. It's a new generation of people buying phones every year or few months. Just shrug it off because this caters to those same people who remembered their greatness and knows better from the late-1990's since The Matrix.

As long as the Nokia 8 still has the great build quality, loud external speaker, good camera, good battery life, and clear reception, it is a winner in my eyes. Forget the haters! Let them defend Apple, Samsung, Sony, or whoever. I rotate between 5 phones, 4 different brands and sizes. I don't care who wins or loses. I don't need to put one company down to raise another.

Quality is quality. Nokia has had it most of the time from my experience with their products. Their $50 phones were built tougher than the current $700+ flagships of today. If Nokia 8 is as built tough like my 3310, N82, Lumia 635 and 640, or the N8 and N9, it's a definite winner in my book.

                      Haters = insecure losers

Qwerty2017, 27 Aug 2017Say ALL u want... People with WORKING brain would NEVER b... moreAll this can be said about Samsung,, Apple, or any other manufacturer. I don't care if Nokia is really HMD, as long as the Nokia 8 still has impeccable Nokian build quality and clear reception, then Nokia 8 looks like a winner. I'm tired of cheaper build quality from the South Koreans and Chinese. And they are all made in China anyway.

Stop being a fanboy for any company. I've owned like 30+ phones from 14 different manufacturers dating back to an Audiovox. I've been on all major US carriers. None of them are flawless. I've owned Nintendo, Microsoft, Atari, Sega, and Sony for video games. I can point out every little mistake they did in the industry.

You won't really find perfection at anything. Everyone from Apple, Samsung, Sony, HTC, and so on have made mistakes. And even if you do find perfection, it will get surpassed because technology always evolves. Fanboys and haters are just wasting time bickering about the details when every company isn't perfect.

The defense of the Nokia 8 is strong.

As a Nokia fan, I dearly wish for a device that sets itself apart purposefully. Granted, as a photographer, my 'purposes' tilt heavily into the camp of image, video and slightly less so, audio quality. Despite so, I do not discount key factors such as an excellent loudspeaker, bright screen, sturdy body, sensible connectivity and practical design. A camera phone or a smartphone is after all a phone at its roots, before anything else. Indeed, if a person were to prioritise the screen, build quality, connectivity and design, one could argue that the 8 is superior to the glass-coated, anti-3.5mm jack and inaudible flagships out there.

However, I will only be satisfied if a Nokia phone delivered largely on the imaging front. Just as many who have pointed out, the photo comparisons have found it wanting. I can only hope that the next flagship improves over the 8 on imaging, while still retaining the factors that have made the 8 superior to the competition.

In fashion, things come and go with every wind direction sentiment takes. However, somethings remain constant, like a classic automobile, James Bond the classic coat and leather elbow pads. Not in fashion but has its timeless recognizable style etc, what i am trying to say is there is a timeless quality to follow your own direction. Looking a bit deeper it was obviously a well thought about and highly stylized piratical design. A cooling core, tough, OZO, best LCD ever equivalent to Oled but with other benefits and a great premium ultra high quality in hand feel. As for the 9 that will be another difference. Something for everyone. A very well thought about device that is a class act.

Every single device, on every single day has its trolls, fans, nah and yes. When apple comes out soon, the screens will catch alight with that too. I wont buy into that expensive for no good reason eco system but a classic Nokia yes. Its the HTC i wanted it to be with no glass back and trusted quality.

I'm getting a matte blue. But I agree, it would be very interesting to see the sales figures. I wonder what the haters would say if it turns out to be a sales success.

Who am I kidding. They'll definitely find something negative to say!
