Nokia 8 review: Connecting the dots

25 August 2017
This is it then. The long-awaited Finnish flagship that goes all in against the phones that rule today. The Finnish cameraphone returning to claim the prize that was once its birthright. Everybody bow and make way?

Also tell that to the Sony that used a 3840x2160 pixels screen on Sony XZ premium.they literally want to ruin their phone :-/

Nokia 8 is good but not great. In short summary - Nokia 8 won't bring back Nokia leading as king.

Beside the processor, everything is still one step behind current flagship release this year. If this Nokia 8 is releasing on 2016 or 2015 then different story.

For now, it just a ok phone but cannot compete with recent flagship.

I don't get one thing: how can you praise this phone for "excellent" camera when its camera is inferior to the S8 and G6? On low-light photos you can clearly see lack of detail.

I'm starting to realize the cheap build quality of the LG G series whether they used glass or flimsy plastic with metallic skin dating back to the Optimus G. My LG G5 took a minor fall inside its holster case and it got dent instantly on top of the phone. My G3 Beat got a minor crack on top as well. My V20 had no protection and gets dragged onto tile and ZERO flaws. Military-graded materials. G5 is a plastic toy compared to it.

Made me realize the only good manufacturers that offers durability comes from the cell phone pioneers - Motorola or Nokia. Moto is now owned by Lenovo and Nokia is more HMD but they are still who they were before. Ability to offer phones with the clearest reception and durable phones with lower prices.

Stick to Motorola and Nokia. The rest are catered to cheapskates and hipsters trying to look cool for strangers. I don't trust the Essential Phone's camera, so I will stick to the Nokia 8. Once I sell my G5 and S7 edge, my next phone will be either a Nokia or Pixel for sure.

So,good old Nokia is back.As I can see, they've built a proper phone after years, but that price-over 700$ cannot be competitive.New models will come and if HMD drops the price below 500$ maybe they'll take some market share in 'flagship' territory..
Couple months ago I bought Xiaomi Mi6,Oneplus5 was also considered, even ZTE Axon7.Paid 440$,my Mi6 runs like a dream and I cannot justify paying almost 300$ more for Nokia 8.And that amazing looking new Sharp Aquos S3 will probably be good 200$ cheaper then 8,but availability will be a problem. So,tough competition for Nokia, but it's nice to see another (old) player taking some share off Sams,Apple...

Plenty of doubts in this review.
Why is autofocus not tested on another copy of the phone? Why there is no test for different color spaces and color accuracy on the display?

The Nokia OS is bloat free and pretty close to stock but One Plus also has that advantage.

AnonD-34062, 26 Aug 2017Calm down dude. I won't buy the phone, ok. I promise. Just ... more Seems like a lot of these people are headed to stroke city :'( .

AnonD-599013, 26 Aug 2017Sadly, the overall impression is kind of meh... it's a good... moreDid we read the same review?
"HMD got everything right in the camera department. The image quality is great, the specs are as relevant as they can get." Directly from review.
So the camera seems to be really good. Also other camera review have been positive. Less artificial sharpening is the key in most reviews I have seen. And that is the one reason why the picture is better in this than for example Samsung 8.
It is now based on what you want to have. Samsung 8 has higher screen to body ratio. Nokia 8 seems to be more durable. And so on. Good phone. Too expensive for me, but so Are other flagship phones including Onepluss 5. Nefinitely better than Onepluss, but Also a 50€ more expensive so tight competition in there. 200 euros cheaper than Samsung 8... so not so tight competition in there. V30 from LG is still unknown for the price, same as pixel2. But if I have to ques They both Are more expensive. So the Nokia 9 is the phone to put against those models.
In this price gategory we have Onepluss 5 that is a Little bit cheaper as well as Honor 9. Huaway P10 is more expensive, but not by much. So good competition in here!

It's so great that NOKIA came back on top of the hill with the 8, but I would have liked to see a revival of the Lumia 1020, something even better. I hope that NOKIA 9, 10 or whatever it'll be named will really be the best camera smartphone yet. I don't care if they'll make it thicker, more robust, just add a monster camera and I will do the "shut up and take my money now!" thing! Cheers!
