Samsung Galaxy Note8 review

16 September 2017
The Note8 is here and we can't help but feel the tension rising, especially in Europe where this is the first Note device to officially land in two years. Some time it's been, so a lot is riding on the Galaxy Note8.

    overall rating: 4.9/5
    in practice, prefect.

Battery life of the exynos variant is as expected, fortunately. Samsung should just ditch snapdragon altogether and create an in house gpu.

[deleted post]It's pure luck. People said galaxy alpha doesn't lag at lollipop and mine bootloops sometimes. I was unlucky. A5 2016 on latest nougat ZERO LAG. ZERO. I hope that next samsung will be good and not defective especially when I pay 600+ euros.

My phone even came with Smart Manager preinstalled. You can also set most apps to save power. You can even regenerate the gallery thumbnails, but that goes for any phone. I'm using Nova Launcher now and it's neither faster nor slower than TouchWiz.

Powered by either a SLSI_S5K2L2_FIMC_IS sensor on the Exynos model or a Sony IMX 333 in the Snapdragon one. Gsmarena's review using exynos model.

IMO, these are the main shortcomings -
#Pricey (Note worth the price they are asking for)
#Smaller battery than predecessor which led to mediocre battery life (SD verison)
#Laggy ( Samsung phones are historically laggy phones than other android phones)
#It's only going to lag more in the coming days.
#Worst position for finger print sensor
#Secondary camera is pathetic compared to main camera.
                        #Speaker quality is pathetic.
#Too many duplicate and pathetic apps preinstalled in the phones.

Other than these shortcoming the phone looks good.

[deleted post]They stopped slowing down years ago. You can stop spreading this nonsense, it serves no purpose apart from identifying you as misinformed, or a troll. Your Motorola is a good phone and you should enjoy it without trying to make others look bad.
Posted from a Galaxy S5 which is still as fast as on the first day.

Samsung phones has always been the fastest charging or amongst the fastest. Usually over twice as fast as an iPhone, despite having a bigger battery.

I like it. I am a big fan and user of the note series. One day I will get this one. Specs are impressive.

89 hours endurance time for the Note8, versus 90 hours for the Note7 Exynos versions.

                                      10:20H (Note8) web browsing versus 11:08 (Note7) which means Note8 has 48 minutes less;

                                      14:34H (Note8) Video Playback versus 16:46H (Note7) which means Note8 has 2:12H less.

S8+ has 1:56H more Web Browsing time; 1:29H more Video Playback.

So, that 6% of smaller battery difference (-200mAh) for the Note8 with a slightly larger and brighter screen compared to its 3500mAh siblings are factors to the slightly lesser performance for such a fully packed features smartphone.

My personal experience with the Note7 for 45 days has given me only some 4 hours SOT, over a 9-hour stretch with bluetooth connected with a wireless earphones with some 30% left. Which means the battery will only last some 12 hours with the Note7, and even less with the Note8. Looks like I'll be really be plugging in every afternoon before going home.

Way to go with people who keep saying sealed batteries with thin profiles are the future and it's a progressive direction. I say go thick and give us 5000 mAh with an expected heft so our usage is really all day, not to be carrying powerpacks/chargers/charging pads/extra phones so we can top up in the middle of the day.

Sigh, my Note8 arrives within 2 weeks, and I'll be ready to carry the extra bulk of a 30,000 mAh powerbank AGAIN.
