Samsung Galaxy S9 review

09 March 2018
It's true what they say - you don't fix what's not broken. And that's what Samsung did for the Galaxy S9 - it didn't change what was already great, it just tweaked specs wherever possible. And it has worked out just fine for them.

Sustainable performance is much lower than benchmarked one.

Same here. Really disappointed with the battery life.

I'm sorry to say, but the XZ2 clearly did better. Besides, a little bit of noise does add up some texture to life. A noise-free image feels like a fake or unrealistic photograph. I'm definitely a fan of both the S9 and XZ2, but the former's camera is not really as good as the XZ2's, we have to accept some things at times.
Although I am impressed of what the S9 achieved with 1/14s shutter speed, 'cause the 1/8s shutter speed of the XZ2 is pretty long for non-blurry low light pictures.

some samples from the studio compare tool of the S9 vs XZ2 (via XDA) so you don't have to click around and can quickly see what people are talking about: https://imgur.com/a/Ml2c6

Disappointed with the battery life and Samsung please add some battery capacity, low power consumtion SoC is not enough!
The F/1.5 lens is really exceptional at low light.

if you compare XZ2 to XZ1 or XZP the XZ2 is also head and shoulders above these.

i'm very curious about the first real reviews of the XZ2 now and am not going to order the S9 until i see them

Take any past phone say galaxy s5 was a plastic phone and if u use it still it will be and outdated phone. Also most of the apps will be compatible and run smoothly with new phones. You get 2 years of major os upgrades with android phone and if u takw iphone. Iphone 6 also got latest update but the performance now is worst? Because the new os will need more powerful hardware.

It's nice that Samsung has made the camera flush with the back, especially with a /1.25" sensor. For Galaxy S10, I wouldn't mind the camera to be bulging a bit but equipped with an even bigger sensor - 1/2.0" or 1/1.8" would be nice. My suggestion to Samsung is to have dual camera on the S10 (not only the plus). Primary camera: 1/1.8" @ 28mm with variable aperture f1.5/f2.4. Secondary camera: 1/2.5" @ 50mm f2.0. More would be nice but given the constraints of physics on sharpness and size, these would be a good compromise. Pushing these specs into Note 9 would also be nice.

I could say it still got a chance to compete with the top players. They reduced the amount of noise present compared to the XPERIA XZ1 by reducing the ISO and go for a slower shutter speed, this time they are a little aggressive on the detail and sharpness. If OIS in on-board, maybe it will yield better results

Hi friends. I need some advice for my next phone. I have a iphone se and looking to upgrade. Here in India iPhone 8 64gb and Galaxy S9 both are available at same price of around Rs52000. I know specs wise and features wise iphone 8 looses big time against S9, but i also know perfomance wise and security wise iphone 8 should last 4 to 5 years as against around 3 years for the S9. What should I buy. I am comfortable with any OS, so thats not an issue. I am looking more from value for money and longevity as i am not going to spend 50k every few years so my phone should last me around 4 to 5 years if i spend so much.
