Also extra resolution is going to be utilised once you start using zoom.
"Basically it's 10MP camera Lol"
Lumia 1020 takes photos at 5MP by default, but it doesn't make it a 5MP camera.

So Huawei uses 10MP x 4 interpolation, which harder to combine compared to single 40MP.
Basically it's 10MP camera Lol, thanks GSMArena to unravel the secret...

Anonymous, 06 Apr 2018Just order a Huawei p20 and I am a bit disappointed by the ... moreIs it? I though normal p20 should be better than mate 10 pro as it use a bigger sensor. Owh got some tips, if in some situation, after u capture pics, words like 'sharpening the photos...' come out, u should hold still until the words are gone. At least my mate 10 pro camera looks good.

AnonD-186803, 05 Apr 2018Sorry but these shots are just,... not that good. The 10mp... moreIt's a quad bayer structure, thus each 4 pixels are treated as one. In normal mode extra resolution is used for instantaneous HDR processing. Since it is not capturing the full 40MP image and downsampling to produce smaller image, the amount of detail the final image will contain is more like that of 10MP rather than 40MP one. So you can't expect Lumia 1020 level crispness from P20. They both have the same resolution, but how their sensor work are completely different. And I think for details P20 is doing a decent job despite having lower MP count than others.

Just order a Huawei p20 and I am a bit disappointed by the look of the camera tbh faces look very washed out and .. flat. I ordered a Samsung galaxy S9 and it was really good but I started to have problems with calls and sound cutting out regular so I decided to return it and order the Huawei instead. These pictures aren't very inspiring as some have a fair bit of noise, some look very flat and some a bit muddy / blurry (especially since I ordered the regular P20 which should be worse than this too). Overall I'm looking at the phone as an alternative to the S9 and there was the promotion for the free headset but the lack of audio jack and the not so good camera is a bit disappointing. Some of the photo's are really good but it seems like the kind of phone you have to tinker with to get a decent photo whereas a good all round out of the box experience would suit me more.
I will try the phone out anyway as it's probably good in other areas but the camera doesn't impress me too much.

YalokIy, 06 Apr 2018Are you sure you don't confuse p20 with p20 pro?
I find th... moreYup pretty sure. Here in Malaysia the price listed;
P20 pro = $800
P20 = $675
Even better if u using our local telco with 2 years contract, free calls and got 40gb internet data per month;
P20 pro = $600 ($25 postpaid per month)
P20 (128gb version) = $525 ($25 postpaid per month)
U can check on our Malaysia's website for the price. To me, it is a bargain.

AnonD-186803, 06 Apr 2018Are you for real? Actually look at the shots before fanboyi... moreYeah the 10mp a bit too overprocessed. But only if u pixel peeping which i'll dont usually do if posting pictures. It looks great if u dont pixel peep it. The details still retain and best dynamic range in daylight pics. At least its not too oversharpen like LG G5 back in the days lol.

SpiritWolf, 05 Apr 2018As 808 user i respectfully disagree. Dynamic range is only ... moreDetails look good when you downsample it to 8MP or just shoot in lower resolution mode, but lens on Nokia 808 is actually pretty soft compared to those on modern smartphones. In fact Juan Bagnell on Youtube did the photo comparison between Lumia 1020 and Mate 10 Pro, and despite significantly higher resolution count 1020 can't really pull ahead in terms overall detail, because the lens on Mate is on newer generation therefore so much sharper. I don't think 808 is any different and from I've seen from dpreview's camera review on 808, I can say with confidence that the lens it uses is not quite up to 2018 standard. But again, pictures shot in 8MP or lower resolution look perfectly fine and it was a great lens when it came out.
Also, bracketing feature isn't that great compared to more modern, advanced HDR processing... It takes time and looks quite fake, tbh.

YalokIy, 05 Apr 2018Check out supersaf comparison of p20 pro with s9+. Unfortu... moreJust watched it and i think P20 pro beats S9+ if using 10mp supersampling resolution both on daylight and night. That night mode, 5x zoom on P20 pro are just unbeatable, amazing tech. But yeah S9+ winning on the video side, but i dont mind it as if i want to record video, 1080p is enough, and p20 pro good at that. Hell i maybe record video once in a month while taking pics every few hours. So yeah, picture quality are an advantage for me in P20 pro. Both S9+ and P20 pro taking good pictures, just that 10mp supersampling resolution on P20 pro are better.

Good job on giving us details of the cameras. I now feel this impressive on paper but not on actual use.
Now I want see a dual camera phone that has that large camera sensor for shooting photos in good light while merging that to the second camera for HDR. The second camera will have specs of recent Samsung/Sony camera with optical image stabilization for shooting videos and in low light.

AnonD-611364, 05 Apr 2018Far better? Is that sarcasm? I would say that HUAWEI's came... moreI had a 808 PV some years ago, and yes, both the full res and the downsized pictures were way better. They are way more natural and retain details perfectly.
These photos look like waterpaint, blotches everywhere. And not ordinary blotches, either, oversharpened ones at that. Everything has a black and white halo around it. Pretty sad, actually, I was hoping this would be a good one.

Please start putting camera comparison photos from different cameras at auto mode . Only then people can trully see which camera is more sharper and and has less noise and more light coming through in difficult shooting conditions.
This camera review to average person means nothing since can't be compare to other Smart phone cameras.
