Sorry but these shots are just,... not that good. The 10mp downsampling seemes to be doing nothing constructive with that extra info, being horrifically over-sharp and remarkably low on detail in places.
Night shots are nice but when your day shorts are that uninspiring, and your video is that poor, you don't really have an awful lot to brag about.
The XZ2 and the S9 are still duking it out for the camera top spot, in my eyes.

Check out supersaf comparison of p20 pro with s9+.
Unfortunately, p20 pro mostly fails to impress.

Nick, 05 Apr 2018I respectfully disagree. Nokia 808 has a magnificent sensor... moreAs 808 user i respectfully disagree. Dynamic range is only weak spot because of understandable lack of HDR. Although you can use bracket shooting and mix pics later by yourself. Mediocre lenses and poor processing? I want what you smoke, really. Softness in details? I have never experienced it (over 30000 photos taken with 808). And about low light performance... It's ok. Even in nowadays terms. Not good but ok. Still indoors 808's xenon flash would kill all nowadays phones hands down.

AnonD-611364, 05 Apr 2018Far better? Is that sarcasm? I would say that HUAWEI's came... moreYou can safely say whatever you want. Doesn't make Pureviews pics worse or P20 Pros better. Seems like you have seen pictures made with 808, not to mention owning 808.

the 40 mp photo sample indoors looks as if it doesn't apply noise reduction, but still isn't sharp and too much glare

AnonD-445642, 05 Apr 2018absolutely! 808 photos just look so natural and detailed mi... moreI respectfully disagree. Nokia 808 has a magnificent sensor but its rather mediocre lens quality and poor processing pretty much ruin all the advantages it has over those which are using smaller sensor. Lack of dynamic range is simply staggering for such a large sensor and details are quite soft for what 40MP resolution suggests, and also low light performance is also quite lacklustre because of narow aperture, pretty bad high ISO performance and lack of any form of stabilisation... I have to admit that it does an excellent job if you want to edit the photos yourself by shooting in RAW, but in auto pretty much all flagship phones beat it with ease.

AnonD-621164, 05 Apr 2018still no phone can beat nokia 808 in shear amount of detail... moreabsolutely! 808 photos just look so natural and detailed miles ahead of current smartphones - which are all good when you look at photos on 5inch screen put they are pretty bad when you view them on anything over 30inch. On contrary 808 photos look amazing even on 50inch tv.

Some noise reduction and edge sharpening are far too radical, so do adjustments in colours. TBH not impressed. However could be fixed in updates, like what Huawei usually do, but like previous models, improvements in certain areas will make some other areas worse, and they have special firmware version just for DXOmobile testing (DXO even posted P20's sample on MIX2s initially, now basically Chinese company's paid dog)
Anyway, a big sensor doesn't guarantee anything, it set the top line rather than baseline. Eg how Panasonic CM1 sucks even compare to RX100 MK1/2, KeyOne is far worse than Pixel 1.

AnonD-749828, 05 Apr 201841 Mp from Nokia 808 far betterFar better? Is that sarcasm? I would say that HUAWEI's camera sensor they used is way better than NOKIA's. Even though the sensor size is way bigger on the NOKIA at 1/1.2" (vs the 1/1.7" in HUAWEI), it will definitely suffer more in low-light, just looking at the aperture having F2.4, way more noise will be present in low-light compared to HUAWEI's 40MP camera sensor they used which have a sensor size of 1/1.7". Yes the sensor size is considered a little small, but no matter how small the sensor size is, isn't the aperture the one that edges sensor size in terms of importance? So what if u got a bigger sensor size in a camera sensor with a aperture of F2.4? It will perform worse than one like HUAWEI's in which the setup is more balanced am I right? Besides, did u think of the camera software side of things? I can safely say that current smartphone camera algorithms are miles ahead of smartphones like the NOKIA PureView 808...

Anonymous, 05 Apr 2018Cons: No OIS. Night mode is terrible. Low-ligh terrible... moreP20 Plus handles strong light source very well while S9+ clearly suffers from poorer dynamic range(I'm not saying it's bad, but P20 Pro is simply better at this) under low-light condition, though. And the biggest reason why its primary camera has 40MP resolution is the zoom, and that's literally what makes this phone stand out from the rest. Night mode is great for facebook and instagram sharing, and the only con it has is the lack of stabilisation in 4K resolution and strong noise reduction in high ISO setting, but this can be remedied through update(or not, but there is a possibility, since it is still running on pre-release software). P20's camera isn't as good as its sheer megapixel number suggests, but it is also not as bad as everyone claims.
