Huawei P20 Pro: a photo walk around Paris

04 April 2018
Huawei's new Leica-branded Triple Camera setup is supposed at the cutting edge of mobile photography. We took it out to the streets of Paris for a quick photo shoot to see how well it holds up.

Cons:
No OIS.
Night mode is terrible.
Low-ligh terrible with 40Mpx.
10Mpx low-light good but not best (S9/S9+ is better)

Pros:
40Mpx with daylight

Overall nothing special. I'd choose S9, but won't buy edge display... Still searching, maybe Mi Mix 2s, LG G7, Mi 7, Asus Zenfone 5z

I would like to see a video of the handheld long exposure night mode at work. That sounds very interesting.

People are starting to get out of control with placing too much importance on a mobile phone camera. The camera is not important, the software hardware and UI are. The camera is just an add on, you want a good camera by a camera then.

The night shot of Eiffel tower taken from distance... Anyone noticed that light beams that shot out from the top of the tower? What an impressive camera Huawei P20 Pro is, to be able to capture such a stunningly detailed photo under a challenging environment.

Best smartphone camera right now. Magnificent. 10mp supersampling resolution is the way to go. Great new AIS implementation.

Looks great. Love the low light stuff.
The AI seems over enthusiastic. If the grass is green, it makes it really heavily green.

I think alot of people will love that, but I think it takes it too far.

Well,I`ve just read that S9vs.XZ2 photo shootout article and saw samples and I can say that both of those phones are capable of stunning pictures...but this one-the P20 Pro...wow!
Some fantastic shots of Paris, night ones are simply fantastic, and judging by GSMA samples, checked all 46 of them...all I can say-don`t want to annoy or offend all the Sams/Sony/Apple/Pixel fans out there, but their phones cannot possibly match what this Huawei can...this is a step up in mobile phone camera performance,no doubt..only downside,at least in U.S. is,will you be able to buy one?Considering it`s a communist made device...ffs...lol

still no phone can beat nokia 808 in shear amount of details and genuine reality reproduction

Since many complain about how the P20 Pro renders skin, it would have been interesting to see some humans in the daylight pictures.

I compared 3x and 5x images from other reviews and there is basically no difference in detail when you compare crops of certain objects. So the 5x setting is basically 1.5x digital zoom of the 3x camera. It's maybe just a tiny bit less noisy.

Anonymous, 05 Apr 2018Main sensor has OISIt doesn't. But it's not a long exposure. That's just marketing. It's actually just multi frame image processing that is equivalent to a longer exposure.
