HTC U12+ hands-on review

23 May 2018
The HTC U12+ has a tall 18:9 display, no headphone jack and a dual camera with 2x zoom, but skips one trend - the notch. We go hands-on.

It's a shame, the phone is way too large, thick bezels spoiling the look, what a pity...

I love HTC and my A 9 but I can't take to these over shiny candy bar colours. Just too much. If it was a more classic metal stylish less mirror back not to mention the arrangement, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Almost perfect and will definitely buy it (solar red ftw!).

If it had a Samsung Amoled display, headphone jack and a slightly bigger battery, it would have been perfect. Also I'm a bit worried about the buttons :-s

                      - zero repairability score
                      - fugly glass back instead of resilient plastic/metal body
                      - no headphones
                      - expensive
                      - again: AWFUL TO REPAIR.
                      No, thanks, HTC. Happy bankruptcy.

As a U11 owner, this U12+ gets me excited.

After countless of Samsung/LG/Nexus phones I have owned, I was also somehow disappointed!
Samsung = Lags, Burn-in, Bloatware, Region lock, Too many variants, Slow updates, eMMC bricks (note 2), Sleep of death (S3).... (Iv'e had S1, S2, Note 1, Note 2, S3, Note 5)

LG = Screen yellow stripes (glue?) in G2 + screen goes crazy sometimes, G4 dead mainboard.... G6 Lags. (Iv'e owned G2/4 and my wife has G6... I thought it was really gonna be better, and she kinda likes the LG UI so I told her to go with G6...)

Nexus = Well, crappy battery crappy screen crappy camera, but hey, Vanilla android right?...

And then came the HTC 10 - Crappy battery, even more crappy camera, Body/Screen ratio was crap, but it was fun to use the phone none-the-less.

And finally, my savior, the U11 - Yes, the battery could be better, yes there is no fake bokeh mode from dual lense setup, yes there is no edge to edge screen, and no Focus peek likie in LG G6/V30. Seriously, I know my shi* around phones, I know where to look for star features, and how most review just don't touch any interesting aspects of phones like, screen touch latency, screen touch smoothness, screen touch initial movement threshold, Audio recording in Call, Speakerphone call, video recording...

HTC Nailed all of those in the U11, but failed a bit on body/screen ratio, and battery could be better, and could enjoy some new camera features.

                        Enter U12+.

                        3500MAH
                        Almost edge to edge screen
                        Camera improvements

Just missing wireless charging, and maybe I'd like some more manual control in video mode with focus peek, but seriously, am I being picky or not?

Notch-- isn't a trend, it just a test done by Apple to see how many copycats still out there, finally it shows still plenty of them, sad........

Doesnt it look like LG V30?

Expect a good review here by GSMArena, for sure HTC did SOMETHING just to make sure people will love here.

Amazing watch that i can buy two flagships this year for the same price and wait for the foldable ones next year. Thanks HTC to let me don't doubt, Squeeze all them at your factory, i am already served. Good luck with your vision....

Shiny finish does not last long

Soo basically this is the uglier version of the v30
