Honor 10 review

1 June 2018
we find ourselves in the odd position of reviewing the Honor 10 - a device which is substantially cheaper than the Huawei P20, and yet, it's surprisingly identical to the flagship device in so many ways. Huawei and Honor may be described as two sides of the same coin. Honor, being a Huawei sub-brand, has the benefit of having full access to its parent company technology and R&D. But when it comes to marketing strategy, the two companies couldn't possibly be looking in more different directions than they are.

After four days of reading reviews on gsmarena at work, I finally decided to go with the Honor 10 and 3 days in, I could not be happier with my decision.
The camera on this thing is much better than expected, coming from the Google Pixel, it's a much better camera and I have gotten used to - the AI software knows exactly what you're looking at and sets a color tone for ex: plants, ancient buildings, people, etc. and gets is well.
The battery life lasted me all day at work 730am until I got home around 8pm with 22%, which is a huge pro for me.
On top of that the phone is really gorgeous, when the light hits the blue - purple colors fly out - looks like a flagship phone.
For $430 (here in thailand), you can not get a better phone. Don't overt think it, commit.

the fingerprint sensor are so lousy. its not like my mate 10 or xiaomi redmi 5 plus so sensitive and accurate with easy one touch.
i think this sensor got a lot defect. even i follow instruction also cant 100% accurate by one touch unlock

That's why a sensor will measure objectively all the time and that's why you don't see the exact same thing on a picture taken in darkness as what you see with your eyes under the same circumstances. Imagine this eye sensitivity multiplied by "who knows how much" and you'll get a cat's eye view.

I have a doubt, in the conclusions says that the Nokia 7 has similar performance, is it correct?

No timely updates, but improving lately (we shall see until when)
                        No community development (Kirin SOC).
Not a clean OS that I can top-up with features of my own preference, or just as it is.
Not able to unlock bootloader anymore (I don't want the bloatware).
                        No, thank you.

Not QC, so no go for me. Heavily invested in QC chargers in the home, in the car and on the move.

Kangal, 03 Jun 2018Huawei's quite predictable, and that's a good thing. It go... moreUnfortunately the Honor models loose much more with the recent models.

Gone is laser-focus and dual-colour flash from the Honor 8. Gone is that sensor that can be used as a convenient button (e.g. shortcut to flashlight)

This particular model even has its design wrong. Why trying to make it bezel-less at the top (with that ugly notch) but keeping that big chin at the bottom. WTF???

BTW. This device is technically almost the same as the View 10. Which is imho a much better looking device if only thanks for a notchless screen on the view 10.

When comparing recent models it seems to me that the Honor 8 was a true gem and last real flagship-killer. These new models are too much compromised.

Huawei's quite predictable, and that's a good thing.
It goes "Mate -> P -> Honor" each cycle.

They recycle components from the luxury line, to their flagship line, to their midrange line... its a good tactic that seems to work well for them. The hidden danger is when you hit a plateau in SoC innovation for 2 years, then it makes the whole company look dull and un-innovative. And its for this reason why Apple leads with a wide margin, because they can hold back innovation at a steady pace, and use software advances and design innovations during the period of plateau. That's also great for their backers and investors.

What happened to the meizu 15 review?

I saw the p20 style night mode(the one where it turns 3 times) on the honor 10 display unit at the shop. It was hidden in more modes and called something different I forgot the name.
