Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) hands-on review

13 October 2018
The world's first quad camera smartphone. Kind of has a ring to it, doesn’t it? Depending on how you tally up the snappers, that statement is true and unquestionably so, if you only consider the rear camera setup. Frankly, we can't exactly say we are too surprised. It was more or less a matter of time. But, if we had to place some predictions, our money would have definitely been on a more obscure manufacturer finally polling out the quad camera card, rather than Samsung.

"The icon with a single tree means ultra wide angle cam, two trees denote the regular camera, and three trees mean the telephoto"

Isn't it suppose to be the other way? Ultra wide should have more trees, hence 3 trees. Regular with two, and the telephoto with one, because u zoom in to that tree?

One very good camera like on S9 is much better than 4 or even 20 average ones...

I think samsung A9 is a test for the market. If people accept more and more cameras then it would be a trends. Will you finger cover the cameras since it crowed on the back cover.

You know what my thoughts are, on the 4 cameras? You have a monster of a main camera and a fix focus selfie one? Waste of resources.
I believe we should now have 2 foldable camera units on the rear (superwide and normal), which come to front when you open it. The benefits are:-

                      1. You'll be able to use the superior main camera to snap selfies.
                      2. Space & weight saving on the phone, for other components. (as no selfie cam is there)
                      3. You'll go bezelless easily, as the front camera is not there. It will come rolling from behind with a button press/ electronic activation.

With a combination of Superwide angle, normal cam, and a telephoto, you'll be able to have a multi switch for each superwide and normal camera.

I wonder why don't these companies listen to our ideas.

Don't worry samsung...your four small sensor cameras unable to beat Huawei p20 pro, Huawei Mate 20pro big sensor camera..due to huawei's large camera sensor(1/1.7 inch)..remember thatlarge sensor is always large sensor .

Samsung should've used a centered box design (originally used by LG in LG Xcam and popularized by Huawei in Mate 20 series) with the LED flash above the cameras and fingerprint sensor below the cameras.

P.S: The depth sensor is redundant. A proper Quad-camera would be Ultrawideangle, Wideangle (Main), Telephoto and Super-Telephoto.

The flat screen looks so nice, I wish there was a s series flagship with a Qhd flat screen and dual cameras.

As it stands I think the phone is too expensive at £549, I have the Nokia 7 plus which goes for £299 and has the same processor and dual cameras, it works with the Google camera as well and has a headphone jack, the camera doesn't have OIS though.
