Asus Zenfone Max Pro (M2) ZB631KL review

24 December 2018
The ZenFone Max Pro M1 was a sleeper hit for ASUS. The ZenFone Max Pro M2 aims to build on that success. The new phone brings with it a more modern design, faster processor and improved cameras while maintaining things like the stock Android UI and massive battery that made the original so popular.

Internal storage
eMCP 32GB / 64GB / 128GB

Model with 128GB already available in Russia.
(supports NFC as usual there)

About charging:
2A 10W - is fast charging !!
to be seen on off. specs page as well
"Battery - 5000mAh capacity with fast charging"

Phone charges faster than some other Quick Charge 2.0 labeled devices.
(to be seen on MPM1 product page on asus com,
or in charging-comparisons on Youtube)

If you would like QC 4.0 or even PD (power-delivery)
go for the ROG Phone.
- you'll get that overhyped Type-C as well, even 2 of them lol

kiasunkiasi, 24 Dec 2018Mi Max 3 having bigger battery than this Zenfone Max Pro M2... moreYes, but it also has bigger screen which is more power consuming. btw, MIUI 10 has improved a lot at standby power consumption)

This looks like a very lazy review. Apart from the dynamic screen dimming I learned nothing new. You state yourselves that the battery is the main point of this phone. So where is the battery test?

microUSB is a pro since most accessories are still microusb and there was absolutely no need to change port again

GSMa. Your team does the best phone reviews. And I understand sometimes phones are available outside your HQ country. But surely, you can recreate the battery test at least if not all the other lab tests. Just that your incomplete reviews don't meet your own high review standards. Here's a rare 5000mah phone. And there's no quantitative measurement of battery life. Please recreate some, if not all lab tests abroad. Most importantly your battery tests. Or else do not accept a phone from a manufacturer who cannot/will not provide a phone at your location under your terms.

No lab tests = USELESS REVIEW.

Sorry to say this but this bunch of text is in no way better than a random youtube video.

ASUS is no expert in software optimizations, hence better go for Android ONE devices like Mi A2 or Nokia Android One series. What a flop phone. Sigh..

eMCP? This is the first time I saw device with this type of storage. embedded Multi-Chip Package, what's the difference between this and regular eMMC? Is this eMMC with RAM being stacked together or another type of storage like UFS and SSD on Apple devices?

haha.. this seems like review by random person who isn't much into smartphones, bought this phone and giving his first impressions :D
not at all like a usual gsma review; no battery profiling, no proper sound test, no review about front cam etc.; also the reviewer was in a hurry to go home for Christmas :D

why such an ignorant review? do u guys have anything against this phone!
This phone is just great, I have never seen u guys giving bad reviews about Xiaomi phones.
Fishy, all comments are disagreeing with your review.
Hope the writing and research quality improves in future.

Listen and take onboard people's feedback. Either do a proper review or don't do a review, without the usual testing it's much less useful and not a fair test against others devices

Without lab tests, review is worthless.

Samath N8 808 owner, 24 Dec 2018My best guess is that this review is made by their staffper... moreI suspect you may be correct about this..

The reviewer highlighted negative aspects CLEARLY and not trying to find any goodies on this phone. Even such lab test not available in reviewer's location (India), they should follow the usual testing as complete as possible (comments on display under sunlight, viewing angles, audio jack, low light camera performance, front facing camera, 4K and 1080p video samples, etc).

This review also deviates from the usual GSMArena writing style, especially at the verdict section. The usual verdict still underlines the positive side of any phone reviewed and the final words emphasize what the buyer's need (and trying to be neutral at the same time).

It's OK to delay publication/posting to achieve good review rather than too rushed but biased and unreliable one.

"ASUS has done a great job with the material and it's good enough to fool unsuspecting customers into thinking it's glass." Dissapointed GSMARENA!

Anonymous, 24 Dec 2018Funny thing about display dimming is that I have never hear... moreMy best guess is that this review is made by their staffperson from India.
This staff from India is apparently very honest.
Even in the Redmi 6A review, they brutally blasted Xiaomi for including ads in the MIUI.
The European team normally doesnt deviate from their set procedure. Maybe to make reviews inter-comparable.

@All: Guys, Kindly don't be too harsh on this... Maybe the phone was available in India only? But they did a good job overall...

Sorry, but a very weak review...
It was not clear about audio quality via 3.5mm jack... Not loudspeaker, the jack.

Its like an unaware guy took the responsibility for this review... Even the pics are I guess, from somewhere in India... which is good as I'm an Indian, but they should have proprietory tests...

I was really interested in this device... I just wish review had proprietory tests.
