Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 review

09 January 2019
Once a prop for the communicating devices in sci-fi flicks, today the edge-to-edge screen has become a must-have feature for any flagship smartphone. It was Xiaomi who made the first steps in this direction back with their original Mi Mix phone a year before Apple came up with their notched iPhone X. The Mi Mix 3 proves once again that nothing is impossible and delivers a truly bezel-less screen with a twist (or rather, with a slide).

Unsolved Mistry, 09 Jan 2019I'm sorry but from a design standpoint the un-equal bezels ... moreBending the OLED panel under the display connector is patented by Apple and even if it wasn't patented by Apple it would probably make the phone ridiculously expensive.

If you watch some reviews on YouTube some have shown a widening gap between the two halves towards the top. Huawei's version of this is built much better.

What's up with the loudspeaker?! Xiaomi focus! Your phone has to ring @ 100dB! Now! :D

There is NO BEZEL-LESS SCREEN AND NEVER WILL BE. A bezel-less screen would mean absolutely zero screen bezels, 100% screen, which would mean curving screen on all the edges of the phone.

Benefits of this sci-fi idea? Err, good looks? Disadvantages? Erroneous palm registering, lack of durability, slippery phones, lack of proper cases and glass screen protectors, sensor placement, front camera placement, earpiece placement, you name it. The craze in TRYING TO FIND THE PERFECT BEZEL-LESS SCREEN is so damn dumb, phones these days have elongated screens where you have to have the palms size of a gorilla to reach the top, where notifications and internet address bar, for example.

What was so wrong with regular 16:9 aspect ratio screens which still are, and probably forever will be, the best for media consumption. Some bezel for added durability, or stereo speakers, or fingerprint scanner on the front where many of us prefer it (in screen fps getting popular, that's quite good tho). People are crying about notches, what's so bad about them if they include all this tech for facial recognition and getting everyone closer to the non-reality of bezel-less screens? Notch for the sake of notch is almost as stupid as phone prices today, that is true. Punch hole camera? Looks like a mole or a huge stack of dead pixels in the screen. I'd rather use a dumb phone than any of these mole screens. I could go on and on, but whatever.

Nothing as such against this product, I think that the sliding mechanism is cool and funky looking, some standout products are always good when everything is the same slab no matter where you look. Just that the modern world of technology is complete a farce and everyone is clamoring the things that manufacturers are forcing down everyone's throats with added costs. Gee whiz, I want a 100% bezel-less screen, all glass build, headphone jack, stereo speakers, DSLR quality camera, 21:9 aspect ratio 2k screen, MIL-SPEC durability, no notches, 2 day battery life, wireless charging, faultless in-screen fingerprint scanner, more processing power than in a laptop, screen the size of a tablet and God knows what else. Yeah, good luck with that. Ugh

Modern phones has no fm-radio, no microsd, no removable battery, no irda, no tv-out, no standard audio jack. My old phone has them all and personally I don't care about 6GB ram, huge screens and frames, ultra powerful and useless cpus... useful things are no more

Simply they want make money from Type-c headphones and no sd slot is ridiculous.

Looks like the LG G6 of 2019, in the sense this is the year of the Snapdragon 855, but Xiaomi is releasing a Snapdragon 845 "flagship". Just wait until the middle of the year to realize just how dated this phone will be.

Camera does worse compared to Mi8.
Samples are kinda blurry and ugly for 12MP

Unsolved Mistry, 09 Jan 2019I'm sorry but from a design standpoint the un-equal bezels ... moreimpossible... The bottom is where screen connections are, you cannot get rid of the lower bezel completely like the top..

I'm sorry but from a design standpoint the un-equal bezels is stupid considering the effort they went to in order to hide the selfie cam... Love the top and sides of the mi mix 1, do that at the bottom too and make it a slider.

They probably have a super cost cutting measure for the display drivers hence the larger bottom bezel instead of putting more design effort in and bending the display drivers like the iphone X does. Cmon xiaomi you were the trend setter but now it looks decidedly average.

Camera seems to be worse than one in Poco F1. Strange. Then again, those 12 mp, tiny sensor casual snappers are for social media only anyway.

PS. Nothing strange here. It's slider.

As a see mi mix 3 I cannot wait for Mi 9 it will be better winner than Mi 8 Im sure from now!
