Sony Xperia 1 review

08 June 2019
Sony has completely revamped its Xperia series yet again, and this year the common denominator is the cinematic screen. Every new Xperia smartphone gets a 21:9 panel for the most immersive viewing experience, but the Xperia 1 is special. It is the Xperia Premium reborn, with a large 6.5" OLED 4K HDR display and today we'll get to know it better.

Again Sony have a mutten dressed as a lamb.
None of the plaguing important issues that have haunted xperia or play station for that matter have been rectified.
Anyone that has been at religious Sony consumer over the years knows that right through Sony's phone infantry, have always been very frustrated with that no signal and that dreeded X in the wifi icon display.
1. Bluetooth connecting issues.
2. Weak network signals in regional or out of city areas.
3. Lack of Sony support relating to consumer issues.
Now don't get me wrong. Sony make decent electronics, However i believe they have lost their way to the consumers heart.
Camera, and finger print scanner and Bravia screen tech are all gizmos that are not impotant, they are a gimick to impress the consumer.
I ask you this.
What good is this when all these xperias have network issues and you cannot connect these phones to your car because the Bluetooth system is not compatible.
What is the point of upgrading to their current toys.
I have been a Sony consumer since the early days of the Sony Ericsson flip phone.
The early nokia days, my house is A Sony shrine, TV, blueray, ps4, dream machine alarm clock and what ever else I got thats Sony.
I'm sorry to say that my patience with sony have worn very thin and their sony support team have left a very sour taste in my mouth, too the point of my consumer attentions going else where and looking at other manufactures of electronics.
I was reading in world news just lately that Sony coms dept had to down size dramatically due to the poor sales of the xperia.
This was on going for over 4 years.
Xperia sales in Australia were chronically bad.
Well I'm sorry guys but you brought this on yourself.
Entertainment is very important yes..... Agreed.
But what good is it when you cannot connect to anything for example.
How can I watch Netflix on your beautiful Bravia display when I cannot connect to the network but I can and with a much stronger reception with an annoying apple or Samsung phone which I dispise both.
What good is it to take my phone into my car to connect to my car stereo when I can't listen to my metal on spotify cause the Bluetooth connection drops in and out. Most annoying......... And my car is a 2012 model car.
The plus side of the xperia.
Really nice lines, great looking phone, decent sound from speakers, really good display tech, etc but the best thing I love about Sony xperia.
And I bet no one ever realizes this.
Samsung flagship $1500.00 aud
Apple flagship $2000.00 aud
Sony flagship $ 900.00 aud.
I'm sorry....... Call me tight fisted but I refuse to pay any more than 1000 dollars for a phone espically in these hard financial times.
Now when you consider that all these tech gurus on utube do comparisons. Yes the Sony is just that little tiny tiny tiny bit behind the Samsung but for 600 dollars difference in price who would complain about a tiny tiny tiny bit of lag in the snapdragons preformence.
Sony just needs to consider that it's not all about gizmos and gadgets but more impotantly how they work against the todays network and Bluetooth connections compatibity.
Currently my xperia at present, the one im using to write this does not connect to 4G. Why you ask.
Because I live too far away from the city so 3G is what my current xperia is connected too at present.
My neighbours Samsungs and Apples all have had unreal signal strength that I've seen with my own eyes.
Pretty pretty pretty annoying sony, over the years I thought you would have been all over it but I guess you have had other intentions........

alvinzm, 08 Jun 2019If you think you're right and know so many facts, why don't... more"If you think you're right and know so many facts, why don't you tell me exactly how can you say those stuff about other phones, while you're an obvious sony fan?"
Damn I said it already that it's in Photo Comparison Tool Chart from GSMArena, that's my proof!
Is exerting little effort too much for you? I don't like spoon feeding strangers, but here you go: https://m.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=9256&idPhone2=9543&idPhone3=9319

"Think again, this time with an open mind. You're the one that can't proof anything since you don't have many of those phones, including Xperia 1 anyway."
Of course I don't, and neither do I think you do. I do, however, search a lot of reviews about the phone and gain facts from them, while you're just here talking nonsense and not even trying to educate yourself by simply doing researches.
How am I supposed to explain something to you when you don't even have any idea about it because you didn't even try learning it?
Come back to me when you researched enough and know more about professional photography.

"Then, I said something about being truthful, unbiased, and aware of facts, not only to sony fans but especially to others too. What do you want me to proof anyway?"
    Truthful? Funny.
Perhaps it's your opinion, doesn't necessarily mean it's true. In this case, it's really not, which is why I am heavily trying my best to correct you and lead you to the right thing, but it's you who's trying to sway away from it and put the blame on me for your lack of enough knowledge.
I'm nearly exhausted trying to explain the same thing again and again, so if you may, I want to take a rest now and do more productive things than this nonsense conversation.

Comparatively speaking, using the word less before perfect simply means it's not the best but it gets the job done. OR it could be better given what the competition has to offer but requires further refinement in order to achieve perfection. Is English your first language?

Always happy to see a manufacturer filling a different niche. Glad to be (mostly) gone with the days where every high end phone fulfilled the same purpose with little or no differentiation.

It seems like companies have finally smartened up and begun to target the many different segments of the smartphone market.

At last an objective review of a Sony by GSMArena. Good job by the way. I hope the objectivity is here to stay as really, GSMA offers one o the, if not the absolute, best online review standards for comparing phones across brands. The Xperia 1 seems like a great phone. Probably one of the best ever released. No 3.5mm headphone Jack though :( and it's a bit expensive. Will keep using my XZ1 waiting for the price to drop some.

The fingerprint sensor does indeed work on touch alone and does not require any kind of pressure.

Wow! the low light shots are amazing, the best by far!

I am completely blown away by the video low light comparison, the quality is just on a league of its own, nothing comes even close!

I am looking to buy this in UK but it is sold out everywhere :(

Xperia 1's battery(78h) is not a concern for me, I can use my XZP(72h) in a usual day(browsing, youtube, spotify, ...). No problem at all, we can use a mobile-battery when we don't use my smartphone.
And, oh, no headphone jack. But did you know there is a USB-C to 3.5 adapter? Or it's time to change your earphone to an Apt-X one :)

Brown wall of the hotel is worse. Very soft.

Night shots are better. Not xz2p good .

Much smaller sensors to keep module same thickness as main cam.

I doubt they will bring bionz x to other with android 10. Because they can outperform 1 easily by having better sensor.

I assume the star rating is consistent. No matter what nit picking comments, this is the highest star ratings from GSMarena this year.
It is expected to be nitpicking about Sony phones as they are like Lionel Messi, they set the standard really high.
