Sony Xperia 1 review

08 June 2019
Sony has completely revamped its Xperia series yet again, and this year the common denominator is the cinematic screen. Every new Xperia smartphone gets a 21:9 panel for the most immersive viewing experience, but the Xperia 1 is special. It is the Xperia Premium reborn, with a large 6.5" OLED 4K HDR display and today we'll get to know it better.

Gosh, daylight images are one of the best available in all lenses, all lenses performs smiliar to main cam, except for wide angle which is not that similar, but one of the best lenses, and low light shots arr just wow factor, lowest noise with highest details, incredible Sony, this time I have to say, you done it Sony, great job

I think Sony need to quit doing these boxy designs, they were old 3 years ago. Shame on the small battery and lack of audio jack. This phone wouldn't be for me.

From my comment you replied to:
"moving towards more natural processing with more realistic color saturation and texture processing"
I'm saying that phone manufacturers are using MORE natural processing than before, of course DSLR captures the most realistic photos all the time if post-edited on a calibrated monitor. It's a matter of a comparison. Try comparing P20 Pro and P30 Pro, iPhone XS and iPhone X, or Pixel 3 and Nexus 6P and tell me in each group which phone is capable of capturing the scene more realistically, especially in terms of details.

Excellent and Best test from GSM Arena again. Will buy it (purple) for replace my XZ2 PREMIUM but hope Sony will make 5G model shortly.
Sony sales are poor these times but Xperia 1 is not produce enough and already out of stock in few colors in Germany.

Could've been a great phone if its not for its imp of a battery and that length of a remote control

                              Sony is following HTC mistakes.

Great phone features, but they always lower battery capacity and higher price than competition, and this combination is a turn off to customers.

Nick Tagataka, 08 Jun 2019"I did. Only the P30 Pro defeats the Xperia 1 ever so sligh... more"So you decided to look over the strong sharpening halo and contrast boost that Xperia 1 applies?"
Sharpening halo is apparent, but contrast boost? Where?
If anything, your first of examples (if they are reliable, I assume) show that the Xperia 1 captured the blue sky better than the other three did, all while the foreground remaining well-exposed, so how is it boosting contrast in that regards?
As for sharpening, it's not really about increasing the available detail, rather enhances the detail that's really captured, but not extracted enough by the RAW format, which is why I said it tends to increase detail.
Maybe it's the wrong term, enhance instead of increase rather, but the point still remains.

And yes you are right. The Photo Comparison Tool Chart doesn't really represent real life situations, but they should give the viewers an enough idea as to what to expect from them and how will they perform in reality.

Nick Tagataka, 08 Jun 2019RAW format is not the practical solution as many people now... moreMaybe smartphone cameras could have a setting like dedicated digital cameras to save both RAW and JPEG version of the same image.
My Canon EOS M50 can do it, and it's really practical since I can fine tune the images later on my phone and achieve breath-taking results that no other smartphone cameras could achieve without any extreme software tricks.

Google and Apple are indeed trying to be more natural this time around, however, their noise reduction is still quite obvious, as they tend to lack enough detail in pixel peeping.
Samsung still feels a little too aggressive at sharpening just like Sony, but the latter at least successfully achieves greater results with better overall detail level than Sammy.
