Now a days cameras look cartoonish and differences in color temperatures. My old Sony Ericsson K800 could catch fan spinning at 6000RPM standing still. Starting with the first Iphone and direction phones are going has gone to crap in terms of camera.

Further to the crowing masses seeking to hold up Saf's video as exhibit a: anyone who claims in a video "you know I'm always honest" is 100% not.

He shows 2 - just two - selected daylight main camera images with the poorest DR outside of a £10 disposable for the Xperia and makes it out that they are typical of his experience. It's ridiculously misleading. He has chosen to put these up and omitted to mention or show any images at all where the Xperia 1 uses it's auto Backlight Detection. He doesn't mention colour accuracy. He doesn't make any attempt to compare detail retention. He's clearly not showing images using the Night Scene mode or Low Light mode (the Sign in darkness sign is ridiculous - there's no way my Xperia 1 would produce that result).

Indeed, the main camera itself is an afterthought. He goes on at length about the selfie cam and the portrait modes and 4k Video (which we all know is unfinished on the Sony). Less than a quarter of the video is actually comparing the two main cameras,... Which he barely does. 2 daylight images? Really?

It is the most shockingly misleading comparison you could ever hope to produce.

When GSMA'S comparison and Saf's come to such wildly, wildly different conclusions then you have to smell a rat. Considering the detail that GSMA put into theirs and the clearly misleading choices Saf made with his, I know where smell is coming from.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgup4NPb0oY this video also shows same results as gsma and fd so clearly supersaf tried hes best to take worst possible photos with x1

Even blind can see, that Xperia main camera postprocessing is miles above Galaxy. But then again, if you prefer waterpaintings over photos, S10+ is your choice. Just compare the hilltop on third photo. Samsungs noise removal fetish has always been laughable.
Also, Xperia main camera captures noticeably more detail. Just look at towers on snail pics. You can see pattern on Xperia sample, but nothing on Galaxy sample. And imo, Xperia camera compared to some bigs does still need some polishing. Says a lot about Samsungs cameras. InnoV 8 was probably last really good Samsung phone.

Nick Tagataka, 19 Jun 2019In which way do you think FlashingDroid knows anything more... more,.... Because he clearly does?!

Saf admits himself that he doesn't know cameras that we'll. You're going to look at the results that both FD and GSMA get - with images that show they're clearly right on the matter - and roundly ignore them to support your bias?

The X1 retains more detail, is patently better at night and is significantly more colour accurate than the S10+. It contains a few sharpening artifacts, a tiny bit of noise and has a very slightly narrower DR if it fires up Backlight Detection but the trade-off is marginal compared to the advantages.

Saf is simply, and demonstrably, wrong. The Xperia has a better camera this year.

Ah! "the motor itself doesn't produce the most satisfying of vibrations" makes this a win for S10+ for those who like their phones equipped with "satisfying vibrations".

S10+ overexposed a little and applied more than enough smoothing, making its images to have less details and textures.

I think it ultimately comes down to what you value more, Instagram ready with brighter and more saturated images but less textures, or images that are more natural and conservative at most time. I personally prefer the latter way and you can prefer whatever way. You can even shoot raw!

Both are losers . IMO any Phone that is priced over $700 is not worth buying today with Chinese phones around.

I've just had the June 1 security update for my XZ2 Compact. Every update has left the phone stable and without problems. Sony have always gone for the people who want minimum photo processing (do that yourself in Photoshop), excellent screens and excellent sound and sound controls. That may not be a big market but nobody else does it as well - including Apple - and that's why we stay loyal.
The Xperia 1 is a bit too big for me, but I hope in a couple of years when I want a replacement they'll have something a bit smaller but equally well specified, because I don't think the huge phone trend will last forever.

The Sony is clearly better in his review and IN GSMA's.

"The Xperia's ultra wide is much much sharper, but the Galaxy's processing and wider field FoV "

Article mentions a couple of times that the S10+ has a wider FoV but the S10+ has a 123 degree FoV while the X1 has 135 degree. Which you can see from the photo comparison.

Very poor cameras - both of them. In 2019 best mobile camera is still Lumia 950 XL - after Lumia i had most flagships - HTC U11, Galaxy S8, S9+, P20 Pro, Nexus 6P, Pixel 2XL and in 2019 i still can't see rival to old Lumia. Very sad.

Maybe the Sony simply please more "technophile" audience.

I never bought any Sony phones, and I don't really care, but it seems this Xperia 1 is the only one on the market that does what I want from a cameraphone: no plastic/waterpainting noise reduction. I'll have to give it a try, but I'm afraid the 21/9 tall ratio will really not please me. At least, there are no curved edges.
