You could have a paper thin phone that's unusable one handed of it's too wide, whereas regular home phones are super thick, yet can be operated easily because of how narrow they are.

It was 62mm wide and a whopping 10.2mm thick, so your palm would travel 82.4mm from edge to edge of the screen whilst holding the phone in a normal position in one hand. On this Mi 9 SE the equivalent number is 85.5mm, so not really a big difference.
It may not be a beauty, nor widely available, but the Sharp Aquos R2 compact is a similarly sized phone, 82.6mm to hold round and the width itself is 64mm. So slightly wider, but also thinner. Pretty much the same footprint for one handed use.

People complaining the Mi 9 SE is not compact, come on, this fella is barely bigger than a Mi 5, which is 16:9 5.15".
Do you, by any means, consider the Mi 5 a big phone? I surely do not.

In Malaysia, the Mi 9T is actually priced lower than the Mi 9 SE. A kind of slap in the face for early buyers of Mi 9 SE.

Guess what? This has a smaller footprint than the Sony Xperia Z1 with it's 5.0 inches. The Xperia is even 3.5mm wider and 1mm thicker - so from edge to edge the Xperia is 5.5mm more to hold. This 6 incher is compact, but still offers a big screen. Smaller than a 2013 phone, and phones were smaller back then (in screen size which many consider phone size), but much bigger screen on this one. Win win.

No ads on my Mix 3 either.

Don't kid y... moreSimilarly sized to for example, a 5.2 inch Xperia Z5 which wasn't considered compact at that time but that was almost 4 years ago. These days with bezels going to oblivion, we can't just judge whether a phone is too big or too small only based on the screen size
