hey, i am not a fan of any oem anymore. i was before as you probably can tell by my name- i started off as an apple fan, then moved to sony, then to samsung, and now i am fascinated with these gaming centric phones. i currently use the pocophone f1 as my daily driver, and i also have a razer phone 2 for gaming and media consumption, lastly an xperia 1 to prove to some people that this is not really a great phone and am planning to sell it in the next few days. i briefly had a note 10 plus just for spin, but i sold it last week before it devalues; i still hate samsung flagships for their curved screens. with the money i can get back from selling the xperia 1, i am planning to get this one and if it proves to be way better in terms of loudspeakers and screen than the razer phone 2, i would sell the razer phone 2 and keep this one. eversince ditching samsung, i have learned i can skip from flagship to flagship easily on any brand i am interested in- by initially investing a small amount of money and then selling those phones i have used for a few weeks or months at almost the same price i bought it with. you don't have to be a fan. see, you can experience them all with a little ingenuity.

The amount of hate and jealousy for the Asus ROG 2 phone made me realise that there's like a ton of obnoxious fanboys from Huawei and Xiaomi.
What a time we live in, I bet these are the very same people who probably announced they'd be caught dead ever buying a China brand phone.

Anonymous, 17 Sep 2019The fact that you are defending them and rambling about phy... morehmmm... think outside of the box? help me with that and cite some techs that could possibly allow for smartphone cameras to compete with actual cameras. you said there are variables in this dilemma, but there are constants as well that serves to hurl back to the ground these lofty ideas of smartphones competing with dedicated cameras. i was smitten to the idea before as i have bought a galaxy k zoom back in 2014, but i simply found that's not gonna happen. the galaxy k zoom was already thick and had not just a hump but an extending camera lens, but still it was not able to even touch the quality of pictures on my old cybershot point-and-shoot nor my fuji mirrorless. are you proposing for smartphones to be even thicker than the k zoom? this would just be a useless endeavor- thick smartphones are not going to sell nor can they compete with dedicated cameras. smartphones are more for automating tasks and that can be handled and explored further with softwares. meanwhile, dedicated cameras like dslrs are more for manual manipulations on camera components that could never possibly fit on a smartphone. i am not a professional photographer, rather just a hobbyist. i enjoy having both professional cameras and high end smartphones. as with any other consumers out there, i want my smartphones to take good pictures but for it to remain as thin as can be. dedicated image processors and image ais will become a norm in the next few years in smartphones, and that's the hardware part that i am seeing the smartphone cameras can further explore; with that fact, this means the oems are not holding back anything from you and are just realizing that software (computational photography) will be the way to move forward. i am not defending those companies. i am merely stating facts.

s-pen pusher, 17 Sep 2019i did ask you to cite something that could hurdle these phy... moreThe fact that you are defending them and rambling about physics to do so means you are being too narrow minded. And again huawei had 40mp 1.4um pixels with a large battery in a slim device. Just like other devives lacking battery or relevant features. Its not that they fant advance at all. Irs that they are sloppy with space, aim too thin, just being greedy, or all of the above.
Again. 12mp 1.4um or 48/64mp quard bayers are not the only options. Humps still exist. And not every device is anorexic.
Think outsode the box and stop blindly defending these companies who are holding back tech while still charging a premium.

[deleted post]i did ask you to cite something that could hurdle these physical limitations. i actually am not trying to sound superior; i am just trying to defend what i have earlier said that there is very little to move forward to on the hardware side of smartphone cameras. you continue to ramble without giving an argument or citing an example. okay- smartphones do not have to 6mm thin, but how thick can they go without giving up pocketability? "Not every sensor has to be 12mp 1.4um or 48/64 set up", yes, and i have cited in a previous reply that bigger and better lenses have been used before in devices such as the lumix cm1 and nokia 808 pureview, and now we have the upcoming 108 megapixel from samsung. then again how long can they sustain this? yes, i am mentioning physics again and again because you don't seem to recognize the constancy of things such as photon size, and you seem to imply that there is a pocketable technology out there now that can shrink photons. there can be variables indeed, but all i'm saying is that we almost have exhausted those variables.
