I am among those many of the few who buy the Mi 9 Lite. Because in our region, the 6 / 128GB version is cheaper than the 6 / 128GB version of Redmi Note 8 Pro. Even with the OLED, a fingerprint reader underneath the display and a more elegant flagship design in the style of thoroughbred Mi 9. And most importantly, it also has a slot for my SD card with my data and photos, which works even without the Internet and clouds.
In my opinion, reviews on the GSM arena should not reflect regional price disproportions or their subjective evaluation without including the opposite disproportions from other regions.
Especially when I had the Mi 9 Lite, the Mi 9, the Mi 9T, the Samsung A50 and the A70 in hand today - and I evaluated the Mi 9 Lite as the smartphone that has the most balanced design. And at the same time, everything I need from a smartphone, which in two years I will safely throw it into recyclable waste and buy another similar middle-class device instead. Which will be at the level of today's flagship or better.

Is it just me, or is Xiaomi losing focus?
They used to have a great lineup. Mi series for premium, Redmi series for value, and Poco for disruptor. I thought that was a great lineup. But they immediately killed Poco just after one phone, and then prop up Redmi brand as premium brand with the Redmi K20 lineup. And now this lesser Mi, losing its original identity. What gives?
Meanwhile, Realme is really killing it on the lower end side. Xiaomi really needs to buck up.

This just response to A50. Same camera setup but better. Sd card slot, fm, ir blaster, headphone jack, oled, better sound. Samsung is busted by Xiaomi on all fronts by 2020.

Good review, bad verdict.
There is definitely a place for the mi 9 lite.
I'm not interested in redmi note 8 because of the LCD display among other things.
I'm not interested in other phones in the mi 9 lineup because they lack expandable storage. Maybe some other versions of the mi 9 lineup were unnecessary but the 9 lite has it's place just because of the microSD option that you don't get with the others.
The mi 9 lite has a better camera (especially the front cam) than the other two.
Maybe you should use your own video compare tool. In the low light sample the mi 9 lite outperforms not only the other phones mentioned in this review but also the iphone 11 and galaxy s10+. Just look at the details in the left bottom corner (the playing card and the heart). I know this is just one aspect of the camera but I think there isn't a better performing camera phone in the midrange segment. The 64MP on some other phones doesn't mean anything. It's all about real world performance.
I think this is the best allround phone in it's price range and above.
