Otherwise you wouldn't say that nona byer(9 to 1) will be pure software. byer isn't possible by software.

All cellphones do bokeh by software. If you put a 50mm lens on a full frame camera and adjust aperture to f2.4 you will see blur automatically.

If you point you cellphone cam 52mm f2.4 to someone, nothing will happen until you select portrait mode. Without portrait mode, you still see whole background perfectly.

Because of the crop factor, devices like s10, xperia 1 and iphone 11 pro need f0.1 for their "telephoto" to achieve true bokeh.
If you use main camera for bokeh (to grab more light) will have face distortion.

Main proof is the fact all phones' bokeh have same issues. Parts of body cut by the blur (hair, ear, shoulder ) and no blur between fingers ...

Ok,that 108MP camera is brand new,a product of Xiaomi/Samsung collaboration..Second generation of that camera will be in Galaxy S20 and I believe it'll be a great thing. But the new Mi10 Pro will have the same sensor for half the price....that's the one to go...

There is a reason why there are none 1/1.3" 12mp sensors.

AnonD-754814, 04 Jan 2020And a pixel size of 1.2 micro meter compared to 1.8 .. That... moreI don't know where did you find the number 1.8 or 1.2. most probably it's 1.6 when merges 4 to 1 & then it's no more 108MP, when it's 9 to 1 then it's only 12MP. And native large pixel sensors are better than quad bayers. 1/1.5" 6000x4000 will result in around 1.4-1.55 microns and will capture more details and same or better dynamic range and lights then quad bayers. I'm tired of 4:3 12MP cameras.

I really can't understand the article. You are struggling to demonstrate the quality of the Xiaomi solution, but you are failing at that. The Galaxy is better in any single shot, if you don't look at 100% magnification (which is completely useless unless you are not going to print at 100x100 cm posters). Huawei already demonstrated that a big sensor is useless without proper software. Samsung, Google and Apple can deliver. Chinese manufacturers can't.

Bokeh is affected by sensor size and focal length, yes, but also affected by aperture, pixel size, and distance. You need to take the pixel size into account if you want to do a phone to FF camera comparison.

Also interpolation is totally different from pixel-binning so saying that Nona-Bayer implementation is "just pure software interpolation" is already a false statement.

Quad Bayer exists, but b... moreThere is "Nona Bayer" arrangement, that will be in the 108MP lens of Samsung's upcoming S20. About being pure software interpolation, we have to wait for that as there are sources telling that the arrangement will be done from the hardware.

AnonD-754814, 04 Jan 2020808 was thick. None wants that much thick phone this day.I do. Call me old school, but I definitely much prefer hardware physics over software algorithm. Yes, you can say to me about buying a proper DSLR camera. I've already done that and decided not to venture into it again.

Bigger sensor size will definitely give a much sharper and more detailed photo. But that said, smartphone cameras of today rely on software algorithm and that is a question of hit or miss. That, I'm afraid, is where Xiaomi got it wrong. Look at the people on Scene 2, it's an oversharpened mess.
