It goes blank quite often with nothing on screen.
And other end person can not hear me quite often.

Cool that gsmarena made a long term review of RN8P and I think readers would love to have more mid-rangers treated like that.

But OMG who did this review??? It is far far away from the professional approach of gsmarena. Writing that phone has a great performance 80% of time and 20% of time lagging' wff? Does it mean that when using 10 hours, 2 hours is lagging. First of all totally unprofessional and not true statement. I'm using RN8P and have not expirienced any lagging or sluggish time. Moreover performance during daily using is better than S9 (I'm using both Redmi private and S9 for work).

My only problem with the Note 8 Pro is the UI. Im..... not really a fan of xiaomi's UI's. Other than that, great phone.

              Cool phone

With It's current price around 300 € Huawei Nova 5T beats everything else in pseudo flagship category and runs around in circles around high end midrangers.

I was thinking of recommending this as a device as somewhat lower budget. However, it is kind of hard to overlook the Nokia 7 Plus/7.2 range of devices for having AndroidONE support. I checked on the forums, and it looks like the Redmi Note 8 Pro isn't favoured much with the developer community, no doubt thanks to that MediaTek SoC.

How would you say it holds up compared to the Realme 5 Pro?
                              https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9812&idPhone2=9801
The Xiaomi might have a (slight) edge on the Oppo in terms of hardware, and I do know the Xiaomi is also (slightly) cheaper at $20-$50. However, the Realme 5 Pro seems to be getting a pretty good response for Custom Roms. I think Software Support is important in these days of uber-disposable / eWaste economy. https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-5-pro/development

What do you think is the Overall Better device among the two?
                              Thanks in advance!

Nick, 21 Mar 2020I am so sick and tired of those android looking icons, even... moreNo, that's a MIUI thing that comes default on Xiaomi/Redmi devices.

Default Icons on something like the Meizu 16s (FlymeOS) look much more uniform, or the OnePlus 7t (OxygenOS) look much more elegant. But then again, you can change pretty much all icons using a third-party launcher and/or using a third-party icon pack.

Here's the ones I recommend (they're all popular):
Urmun, Minimalist, Voxel, PixBit, Outline Icons, Flight

I came directly from the OP 7 Pro, and the only things I miss are the speaker loudness and camera. I don't have the same issue you do with the external speaker. To me it sounds perfectly fine. I regularly play music through it at work with the volume maxed out and it doesn't get muddy or tinny for me. The only issue I have is that it's not loud enough. It makes speakerphone use a challenge in louder environments. Maybe somehow your model can achieve louder volumes, since you didn't complain about quietness and yours seems to exhibit signs of a speaker pushed beyond its limits. The camera isn't point-shoot-forget like the OP 7 Pro was. I actually have to make an effort to hold the phone still to get a usable shot, and if indoors I have to manage the lighting. When you can get a good shot, the results are very good. Fortunately for me my camera needs are utilitarian and not for admiration. My wife has a P20 Pro (to this day the best phone camera I've seen) and she takes lots and lots of photos, enough for the both of us. I actually, surprisingly, don't miss the speed of the OP 7 Pro. There was some lag in MiUI, but installing Nova Launcher (and turning off animations) solved that problem for me and others (like no app tray). I might have missed the faster 33W charging of the OP 7, but the Redmi Note 8 Pro has such amazing battery life, I don't even care. I definitely don't miss the 90Hz display of the OP7P, because battery life was so abysmal with it on I ended up turning it off permanently. I also don't miss the ugly, glare-ridden curved display that warps images at the edges, or the dodgy in-display fingerprint sensor that laughs at even slightly moist fingers, or the absolute garbage mics that required me to constantly repeat myself when making an actual telephone call (remember those?) The RN8P is a triumph at $200. I can only count on one hand how many electronic devices I've owned in my lifetime that offered so much for so little.

Im having issues with receiving calls and texts when connected to WiFi for a little while. It seems like the network card cuts out after being connected to WiFi.
