Huawei still suck video camera department.. How can 4k 60 record bitrate at 30 mb vs samsung s20 ultra 70 mb that huge difference in term quality.. Also 4k 30 only 30-40mb bitrate while samsung n iphone 11 can do 50 mb since long time ago hight bitrate can give high quality video.. Huawei p40 pro like huawei p30 pro for me nothing much different in term improvement such video department very disappointed.

There is a reason why Samsung used the IMX 586 for telephoto, coz they wanted the best telephoto camera on the market irrespective of lighting conditions.
No amount of image processing or ISP improvements can compensate for small sized sensor especially when the competition is using last year's budget flagship sensor.

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2020Thats the norm for Huawei they tend to lie or exaggerate. ... moreIt's also 400$ more expensive without face ID and the camera is still buggy. Not to mention, Huawei tends to have better computational photography. Also, bigger main sensor, better fingerprint scanner, and flagship performance all for less. Only caveat is the Google Mobile Services and some issues with American carriers.

Zoom cameras suck in low light.
Main camera not best in class either but right there at the top.
Ultrawide is the best on the market albeit with smaller FOV.
1200p screen with 90hz is weak compared to the QHD+ Giants sporting 120hz display.

Emeline Shaw, 26 Mar 2020Extremely disappointing phone:
- sh*tty low-res display
... moreHigh res 1200p High refresh rate 90hz curved on all 4 sides oled
Class leading main, wide angle and zoom cameras with exceptional low light performance
High tech vibration ear piece
Performance leading chipset with above average battery life
Pill cutout with AF selfie and faceid sensor
Around the same price as S20+
Probably the best flagship released so far this year.

I really want to like this P40 Pro since it uses the same chipset as the Mate 30 Pro and I definitely love the photo quality of it. But looking at the oversharpening effect on Pic 8, 10, 11 and 12, I think I'll stick with the Mate 30 Pro. Why that oversharpening effect is back? It now looks pretty much the same as in iPhone 11 Pro! -_-

All right, my opinion on this phone after reading this review.
-1200p display leaves a big question mark for me. Like, why not QHD+ instead? This puts the phone at competitive disadvantage when you compare it to phones like Find X2/S20+ on the spec sheet, while the resolution difference is not significant enough to give it an upper hand in battery life, which is for some reason shorter than P30 Pro despite the same battery capacity. The panel itself is clearly not as bright as those two's as well. I appreciate 90Hz option and great colour accuracy, but I expected better from a $1000 smartphone.
-Mono speaker? In 2020, on a flagship smartphone? Could you just ditch the acoustic display and bring back earpiece, please?
-ToF-assisted 3D face unlock is nice, something S10 5G had it but Samsung ditched with Note 10 series. That pill cutout, however..
-Performance of Kirin 990 is ok, but the graphics side is clearly lacking compared to SD865. I'll wait for the review from Anandtech to see if it performs any better than Exynos 990.
-Image quality is excellent as I expected from all of 3 cameras, but the lack of colour tuning is evident as all cameras show a slight purple tint and lean towards warmer side of WB during the day consistently. There's some serious colour misrepresentation happening on the telephoto lens (orange/yellow turns bright red) during the night as well, but this is something they will fix ASAP so I don't think it will be a problem for end consumers.
-I hate the fact that both main and UWA cameras show more aliasing than than in Mate 30 Pro, but at least the latter resolves more detail on P40 Pro, so I would say it's a decent trade off.
-Garbage full res 50MP photos as we all expected, but still disappointing nonetheless. Isn't this where their proprietary XD Engine could've definitely helped by, let's say, creating a super res image out of the sensor and doing smart stacking to increase the resolution and reduce the noise like Pixel does with its Night Sight?
-It reigns supreme in low light, no argument. I don't know what the writer saw in those samples, but to my eyes P40 Pro's shots look almost noiseless while maintaining the same amount of details as S20 Ultra, which introduces tons of noise in shadows despite having an equally large sensor and using lower ISO. Huawei's night mode needs some work as it seems to take a toll in fine textures, but even then I still prefer it over S20U's oversharpening and blotchy colour noise in the sky. Unfortunately they didn't fix the softening bug of UWA camera so you're stuck with auto all the time to get the best quality out of it, but at least you still get natural colours and class leading detail definition.
It's amazing to see how well iPhone does in night mode, though. Noise is very well contained but the amount of texture preserved in the image is downright impressive given its comparatively tiny sensor size. Kudos to Apple!
-Low light zoom is fairly good as well, but S20 Ultra still has a slight edge when night mode is used. Though it's good to see that Huawei addressed the P30 Pro's weak telephoto lens performance in low light and drastically improved its performance.
-As for video recording, there's not much to complain about, honestly. Right now it has a slight WB issue with the main and the telephoto camera, but everything else is top level and I'm pretty sure they will iron out minor issues like this in future updates.
-Selfie camera is better than ever. No annoying oversharpening or weird HDR halo, everything looks spot on. Well done.
The wide aperture mode looks fantastic, and man, that edge detection. Faux bokeh mode has come a long way on a smartphone, and now it's really good.
Overall it's a great phone, such a shame about the steep pricing and the lack of Google Services, though. Now I can go get Mi 10 Pro once it gets released in where I live with no regret :) 27MP resolution here I come!
